Sur Ron Big Wheels | The Enduro Killer Upgrade

  • This time I'm testing what I call the "enduro wheels". It's a 21" front wheel complemented by an 18" rear. This setup is high demand as it has some interesting characteristics to offer:
    - the rear wheel offers a lot of traction and dampening,
    - the front wheel helps rolling over stuff and gnarly terrains.
    The front wheel is bigger, it rolls over rocks, logs and roots effortlessly, so it really helps on these rougher terrains and gnarly rides.
    Regarding the rear wheel, the 18" tyre is larger and bigger, with a huge air volume. So it provides a lot of cushion and allows you to ride fast even over a terrain covered with rocks. In addition, as it's wider than stock, it has a bigger contact surface and provides a lot of traction, offering new climbing abilities.

Also, any shoe recommendations for rough trail riding on the bike like this? Cheers

    • @MTO_Brothers
      @MTO_Brothers  2 года назад +2

      L'entretient c'est grosso modo comme un VTT: bien huiler, lavage si c'était boueux. Vérifier le serrage des vis qui peuvent bouger avec les vibrations.
      Le prix peut varier assez fortement en fonction des bons plans que tu arrives à trouver. Pour une full prépa, en considérant que tu vas revendre certaines pièces d'origines, il faut compter dans les 10k€.

    • @MTO_Brothers
      @MTO_Brothers  2 года назад

      Hey Alex. We're using the Nucular controller. I run a 72V while my brother had a bypassed stock battery at the time.
      No we don't carry a spare one as it's too heavy. We're just monitoring what we have left for a potential "pit stop".

  • @bikeninja956
    @bikeninja956 2 года назад

    thanks for sharing. A bunch of questions.
    What pressure were you running your tires? On the front end, does it still feel bone jarring or does it feel like a real MX bike (floats over stuff)...it still looked like it felt rough. I'm running a Fox40 with upgraded springs and a 26" MTB wheel (21" moto equivalent) and it's rough as hell going over rocky terrain. Takes the fun out of it...
    Also, notice a big difference running the Rock Shox R2C vs. stock shock?
    What avg. range are getting with the wheels and this battery setup?

    • @MTO_Brothers
      @MTO_Brothers  2 года назад +1

      Hey man.
      No it clearly floats over things. The terrain is so rough is some places though that it's not a hovercraft either. When riding with friends on actual dirt bikes, I've noticed they're quite shaken too.
      26" MTB isn't really comparable apart from the size. The tyre is way tighter, thus you need more pressure and it won't absorb impacts as efficiently as a moto tyre.
      Regarding the sock, it's a bit better than stock, but the difference isn't night and day like the one you feel replacing the fork by a high end one.
      The range didn't change much surprisingly with the power I run it at. I guess range depends more on the type of terrain than on the wheels. I guess that I wouldn't get as much range on slower trails as there's a lot of acceleration/deceleration. But on a rather high speed ride, I couldn't see any difference.

    • @bikeninja956
      @bikeninja956 2 года назад +1

      @@MTO_Brothers ok, thanks for that info, it all makes sense, helps a lot. Yeah, I run low pressure (16-18 PSI) in the 2.8" MTB tire but even then it's not enough, plus it get's a little sloshy when turning with that low of pressure. I think the moto wheel setup is the way to go for sure, not perfect but probably much better.

    well all dirt bikes have had 21 inch front 18-in rear tires for years that's all I'm used to riding so it's got to be the best setup but the electrics are on is really light it must just feel better like a regular dirt bike with those rim size tire size

    • @MTO_Brothers
      @MTO_Brothers  2 года назад

      MX bikes still run 19" on the rear. Only enduro use 18".
      You gain in confort and traction whit the bigger wheels, but the smaller ones give you an incredible agility. There's no better really, it all depends on the terrain!
      Bike park-like singletracks, I'd go 19" all the way. Gnarly sandy, rocky enduro trails with loads of roots, 21/18 without an hesitation 👌

    La configuration AV 21 et AR 18, c'est la monte de roue sur toutes les motos d'enduro... Cette monte permet large choix de pneu (dur, médium ou tendre), ainsi que la possibilité de mettre des mousses à la place des chambre à air.

    • @MTO_Brothers
      @MTO_Brothers  Год назад

      L’avantage de la Surron c’est que presque tout est possible. Je pensais pas trop mal l’autonomie de la EM. Il faut vraiment que j’en teste une !
      Pour l’embrayage oui c’est programmable sur certains contrôleurs mais l’intérêt est limite. La EM a un embrayage avec une vraie fleewheel donc tu peux faire prendre de la vitesse au moteur en débrayant et tout lâché d’un coup. La comme la transmission est directe au final ça revient un peu au même que de couper les gaz…
