Shadow of The Tomb Raider is the third game in the rebooted series, somehow still focusing on Lara's origins. Considering how stale the gameplay has become after three nearly identical games, I feel they are going to need to reboot the series again.

I swear Dartigan writes his lines like "How can I express, in monotone, the misery I felt at paying for this game's ineptitude?"
Jeremy from Cinema Sins does pretty much the exact same thing. When either break the monotone, you know things have gone to hell in a handbasket.
I read this sin in that monotone
That's also just how his voice sounds. I doubt he would be faking this voice while streaming for 4+ hours.
Cinema sins is just a fucking garbage. And this channel seems to move in the same direction ... saddly
We all read that in his voice...
Hell at this point my inner voice when I think sarcastically sounds like something between Dartigan and Dr House
Lara's face has changed for a third time... Every game in the reboot trilogy has the same person but with a different face, what the hell... Even Jonah is different.
Jonah is the one from the first one
I know it's the same guy, I meant he looks different in every game, just like Lara.
Lara's face definitely changed from TR2013 to ROTTR but her face in this game is pretty much a facsimile of the latter.
No Lara uses her rise face
It looks more similar to Rise but not the exact same, especially her mouth.
When TR2013 ended I assumed the rest of the reboot trilogy would feature the friendship of Sam and Lara, and the dual pistols were here to stay. Man, was I disappointed.
That scene when she rose up out of the water with fire behind her was definitely sin removal worthy
Only if she was brandishing dual pistols.
My biggest sin in the game is the immersive language option!! Seems cool but Lara will ask questions in English, natives will respond in their language, yet both understand eachother. Lara is so smart and can read all these monoliths, why is it such a reach for thinking shed study and learn the language of the people and speak it? Why include the option at all?
M B sometimes its more polite to speak your native tongue when you dont know that proper words in the language. 'Excuse me' is "con permiso"
This is pretty mild. But actual fights get started this way.
once in Mex i was supposed to do a task and when asked when i was gonna do it, what i MEANT to say was "When i get a moment later" but what I ACTUALLY said was "Ill do it when it gets done!"
It was hilarious.
Lara studies languages. That doesnt mean she's multilingual. To understand a language, you have to memorize nouns then understand how the grammer, punctuation, and inflection work. Thats why the games have the 'language mechanic' for these ancient dead languages. Anyway, its one thing to understand what someone is saying but its a whole other ballgame to SPEAK it too. (I.e. nouns and grammer change based on gender and situation)
The option to turn off "language immersion" is there for ppl who dont feel like reading subtitles
Speaking a foreign language is much different from understanding it, especially because of the pronunciation
Probably because we'd all bitch and moan that the game is never in english and we're constantly stuck reading subtitles.
It’s because she reads the subtitles
no sin for the walkie-talkie?
lara tells jonah to not use the channel that they are speaking on because trinity was listening to their conversation, they then soon after lara and jonah, still continue to keep talking on the walkie-talkie regardless, that is a major sin that one.
another sin, the villian tells lara that Jonah is dead to get her worked up and it was obvious it was a trap, Jonah , then walks up to her unscathed like it was nothing, he wasn't even harmed or held hostage whatsoever, that is all strange for someone that is supposed to be dead, and it's never mentioned again for the rest of the game, that part was really weak.
lol..so true!!
rourke told lara that jonah was dead randomly to scare her or smth he never captured him
I was hoping he’d have a rifle or something in his hand to make it better
They could easily agree to change channel after she met him again off screen
YES!
The most disappointing thing about this game is the lack of dual pistols.
Really missed opportunity!
I'm not quite sure what they had against the dual pistols. Maybe in the next reboot.
jagged-panda hahaha
@Sir Galahad those four sharp polygons eye gougingly ... sexy I know.
This is one of the things i noticed with this reboot. Basically demolishing her identity, which was her dual wielding pistols and also her character, which wasn't as self-centered, close to narcissism really, not caring about anything as long as she thinks she has the moral ground to destroy everything.
@@Numenor76 well she was never really an archaeologist they called her in the first place. But now she's even further away from being one since she's destroying things she's supposed to excavate or preserve.
Jonah looks completely different to what he looked like in Rise, where he looked completely different to what he looked like in the 2013 reboot
Thank you! I felt like I was the only one who noticed this! I played all of these games back to back and I didn't even recognize him.
You know what pisses me off the most about this game? Despite the infinitely lower stakes in the previous 2 games, they still feel more climactic and grand than this game despite it focusing on the damn apocalypse. What a letdown this game was.
This. All of this talk of the sun dying in the middle and it never felt urgent. I don't even think the writers could take the story seriously. It's like they had a decent idea at the beginning, got completely lost in the middle then crammed all previous plot points together and called it a day.
Devin Henderson I'm still trying to get through it. I'm not sure if it's the struggles to even get the game to launch for the first 2 days before finally getting to play it that ruined it, or it's just not as exciting. It's the first of the reboot franchise that I will stop and exit because I don't want to play anymore, vs being too tired or sleepy to keep going. It's just not compelling at all.
SuperN0va my issue is that it starts off really good, but as soon as we reach the jungle areas,it really snowballs into oblivion.
To u
Right! It's the end of the fucking world you would think Trinity would be sending it's very best and be swarming the jungles
Nathan Drake's first words in Uncharted 4: "Ah, crap."
Lara Croft's first words in Shadow of the Tomb Raider: "Shit!"
It just can't be a coincidence.
That just says Lara has more balls
@@KadeSmash yep
These rebooted Tomb Raider games are deliberately stealing from Uncharted, a series that admittedly stole from Tomb Raider, and trying to come off as a teenager's idea of mature.
@@louisduarte8763 so games stealing from games.. not much new there lol
@@KadeSmash Yeah, I guess I shouldn't be surprised, cause this isn't the first time something else stole from Tomb Raider; I remember a Duke Nukem game had almost the same engine as a TR game, but better.
CLASSIC LARA: Girls just wanna have fun!
REBOOT LARA: Yes, dad.
Regardless of the quality of the game, lara does look pretty damn cute in this one
Yahhh
She always looked the same to me
She's cute here, but she looks the best in Rise. Her TR 2013 look is her true gorgeous look.
In the second game, Rise of the Tombraider, you can look in the menu thing and there is a journal entry or a tape thing(idk which I can't remember) and it explains how Sam hates Laura after the events of the first game and how Sams psychiarist wouldn't let Laura see Sam anyway.
really? that's f*cking stupid.
@Sir Galahad itcould even be in the Croft Mannor DLC I'm not sure, I don't remember at all where I found it, I guess I'm replaying it too.
Yep, that's true. You can find this document in appropriate menu after escaping from prison with Jacob.
Rise of the Tom Braider.
Now who is this Tom guy? What is he braiding? How many reboots will his franchise get?
That’s dumb sam was my favourite she was bad ass and cool she’d make a better side kick then Jonah
Something that disappointed me a lot about this game is that they bothered to give Lara incredible guerilla warfare-style abilities such as camouflage with mud and executing enemies by ambushing them in the best Snake Eater style, only to have almost no chance of using those incredible new habilities. What a disappointment.
How can Lara have such a thick muscular neck yet such scrawny noodle arms? I'm not opposed to making her breasts smaller if they were going for a more realistic look, but would it have killed to then also make her look capable of performing the feats of strength she's shown performing in the game?
Malidictus she had muscle at e3 but they took them away for some reason
Well, that's disappointing. I know Lara isn't known for being buff, I thought they were going for a more realistic look. Someone who can climb and fight like that, and who can choke out burly men twice her size ought to look at least remotely able to do so. I thought Nadine Ross of Uncharted 4 struck a decent balance. I'm fine with deviating from her old ridiculous Barbie Doll physique, but what they replaced it with isn't much of an improvement.
Malidictus yep well that’s Tomb Raider developers for you. Constant disappointment
Yeah, they are scared someone would call them sexist if they make her sexy, but they are also scared of backlash from everyone for making her look like an athlete, fitness model, or bodybuilder. The ideal body type today for a empowered woman is a skinny, short, white middle class, librarian.
they took the arms away because people complained. They said it made her look fat. She was a hell of alot more built in original builds, but the devs were forced to "feminise" her twice because people and media were calling her fat
I was too busy climbing the wall at the end to hear the radio announcement about Trinity. Hell, I didn't even know Trinity had been defeated by the end of the game. It was definitely an anti-climactic ending, but I did enjoy the game overall.
jagged-panda same there are a lot of sins in this game but it still doesn’t take away thats it’s my favourite game trilogy
The stupid thing was they started off by saying they invited the high council so they can witness everything and boom they're all dead and Rourke who killed the queen is dead too
I did enjoy the, the ending was meh but the gameplay was still fun. I think my favourite of the 3 is rise since it felt the most like a fun action romp and when Lara was allowed to just be a nice person. I'm very curious to see what they make next
Yeah, i wish the trinity could be around longer.
At this point, I'm hoping that Tomb Raider's next inevitable reboot will set itself apart from the 2013-2018 Tomb Raider games.
I just cannot find myself bonding with Modern Lara Croft at all. She's absolutely boring to watch. Chloe Fraser in Uncharted: Lost Legacy felt more closer to being Lara Croft than Modern Lara Croft herself did in all three of her games.
Amen
Hah, I so agree with you! Nothing makes me root for this Lara.
Thank you, finally someone that appreciates The Lost Legacy
Yeah, they should go to more Indiana Jones throwback to classic adventure stories, instead of this psudeo-realistic world
Lara Croft has always been a bland & one dimensional Mary Sue, she's a terrible character that's only popular due to her tits
No sin removed for the "Oil Refinery" scene? Disappointing
It was a fun set piece but completely ridiculous. That helicopter would have slaughtered her.
@@randomfools808 shhhhhh it's a video game
Randomfools jesus man if ur llooking like that every single video game charater would be dead
What I dislike about these TR games is the lack of humour. Lara is so dramatic and serious, sounding more like a person who would sit at home behind closed doors and feel sorry for herself. Does not sound like a typical, curious adventure-seeking adventurer at all.
14:13 so we’re not gonna point out that it looks like a piece of shit cast in silver?
Silver Poo :)
LoL, it actually looks like that.
OH SHIT!
Now we have a silver turd to go along with the golden ones?
Even though we clearly know it is a snake coiled up it still looks like a pile of shit made of silver.
Chad Lara: Raiding Tomb 24/7
New Lara: Haha mass murdering go brrrr
This game was really fun for me, but I will be the first to admit that it had really blaring issues. It's like none of the 3 games are actually connected. Each of them just sort of happen. Makes me wonder why they called this series a 'trilogy'. This might be one of the only game sins videos where I legitimately agree with EVERY single sin.
read the comics :)
They are not just disconnected, they feel remakes of each other in different locations. By Shadow I already had enough of the same plot.
Jonah is the biggest simp ever for following lara around all this years
I agree with the Jonah part, I don’t think the fry cook who called Lara cute nickname - little bird - should’ve been her companion for these next adaptations in the game. However, after sams experience with Yamatai, she stopped being Lara’s friend, and they grew apart. Any information on Sam was left empty in rise but in shadow of the tomb raider there are a couple journals that have Lara referencing to her first expedition and what happened to her relations with the surviving members.
#30 was unnecessary, you just came up with the line: “back when her face had less polygons than her breasts.” And figured you’d use it.
Lara- is not uninteresting she is very interesting.
Camilla voice doesn’t fit with Everyone’s embodied image of who Lara Croft USED to be. This is a reboot, aka a restart, she is going to become the tomb raider we all loved.
But that doesn’t mean she’s going to become the Angelina Jolie Lara Croft- y’all loved so much. This is a new adaptation that humanized Lara, it took her from being this Wonder Woman/Amazonia indestructible human. To this woman- to a human archeologist that is trying to clear her fathers name. Once you guys stop comparing these games to its older counterparts- which we are kind of trying to forget- you will begin enjoying these games so much more.
I understand these gaming sins are supposed to be like satirical. It’s your way of hilariously proving how games aren’t realistic. The only problem I have with these kind of videos- is it’s very similar if I watched a video titled.
“Why the paranormal activity movies don’t depict real ghosts.”
Just my take.
#69
I’m so confused did you just run through the game and watch the cinematic. Because if you play throughout the game it tells you and explains why Paititi can speak English; it’s because Dr. Dominiquez was taken young from the original Trinity’s leader. And raised to become the leader of Paititi so it can remain under Trinity’s control. Trinity however residing in the hidden city, still have to discover the secrets. You’re telling me the damn people who lived there didn’t even know about their secret box? Oh right it was a secret because it kills the fucking world.
The choice of having Paititi speak English was a gaming choice- I figured they didn’t want the entire gameplay to be in a different language. However I would’ve loved it if this game was in a different language, if Lara spoke the language and learned what she was able to do. Considering her little monoliths and shit but no she speaks English lame.
The main leaders they’re talking too speak English as well irritating but the NPC’s and the rest of characters you talk to, in Yaku speak Spanish, and paititi the citizens speak their native language.
All the way back to the last game when they were first introduced, DUDE THESE ARE HER FIRST THREE FUCKING EXPEDITIONS
HER first one was yamatai this was her following her own path, has no relation to trinity. She’s just trying to live up to her fathers name and prove something is real. She’s tying to get some proof with Whitman the reality star, some proof of the paranormal, supernatural etc.
The second expedition, she knows her fathers right, LARA now believes in her own father when she didn’t. Now she’s clearing his name, discovering all of his secrets, what his last research was- the divine source- is how she discovered trinity.
All the way back- meant literal. When she goes into textbooks and readings and such TRINITY is a reoccurring cult. They have been around for decades. That’s what she’s referring too.
How is #100 even a sin?? It’s just?? Your remark??
I absolutely loved Rise. But even as a fan of the reboot series I can't argue that this entry was terrible, a huge disappointment.
To me personally, Jonah as a sidekick really hurt the narrative, while the skill points were utterly useless from a gameplay perspective.
I really wanted to like it, even half as much as Rise, but the game did so many things wrong it was impossible to enjoy it.
Jonah was fucking useless in this game
"Lara I got us a helicopter"
"Gets kicked out shortly after"
Jesus christ jonah I'm surprised he hasn't died yet
Jonah in rise is okay to me. But jonah again in shadow isnt okay. Its like lara got no one else to accompany her to digsites. And we know thats not true.
Its tr and not tr and jonah
@Sir Galahad again. Its like she dont have anyone else to follow her around.
That's interesting. I thought Jonah was the best part of this game honestly. You can tell from the campfire scenes that he loves Lara but can't ever have her
When Lara and Jonah found the silver box, they both fall into the water. Lara then swims extremely fast to get to the church where, somehow, Jonah is not only out of the water, he has already been captured and questioned a little. This seems so implausible that it broke immersion more than anything for me. The other things could just simply be bad writing, but this was a character literally teleporting or time-skipping.
Also, in a matter of days Lara finds the clue for the knife, the knife itself, the clue to finding Paititi, the clue to finding the box's original whereabouts, the box's original whereabouts, the clue to the box's new whereabouts, the box itself and where to take the box and knife together. Something that took Dominguez, a man with knowledge, unlimited resources and who was *fucking* *born* in the city that encapsules it all but the knife, literally his entire adult life, several decades at least. He *must* have known the box was supposed to be just outside Paititi. He should've been finished before Lara was even born or at least when she was still a child.
13 - the quechua (incan language) word for cloud, phuyu, is literally "silver top", so "silver crown" is an apt translation, although anyone who knows the languag would just translate it to cloud and not the separate words.
36 - also there's 3 jaguars in the same sq. km. jaguars only meet to mate and they become extremely violent during that time. they get around 40sq km each at any other time. also they are considered not only an apex predator but a Keystone Animal to their ecosystems. meaning if you kill one you can fuck up the entire food chain. lara kills 5+ during the game.
49 - she saw her father on the phone and 5 minutes later he was dead. she thought the argument was over the phone like any sane person would do
51 - that's an oil extraction/refinery town in which literally all of it's citizens worked for an american company which also brought some workers of their own, they dont specify how long it's been but it's safe to assume there's been more than a few years.
52 - Abby speaks perfect english, is dressed in northamerican style with an american hairstyle unlike any other woman in the game and has a classic american tattoo, you think she's peruvian because of her skin color, that's racist.
61 - never seen a person freaking out?
62 - it's been stated in a codex entry that paititi has been under trinity control for 300 years and in order to control uprisings they use their own external paramilitary but dresses them as locals to try and not culturally disturb the locals. all the jaguar guards, the guys in green armor, are private security from around the globe, ordered never to use clothes or weapons alien to the people of paititi. you can find that codex inside the temple of kukulkan btw. after 300 years of dealing with english speakers the paititians would have learned the language
65 - and yet people keep discovering uncharted islands in the pacific and atlantic thanks to google maps
74 - they're not monsters. they are dressed, painted and self mutilated themselves to look like monsters in order to scare anyone that comes near the temple that has the box, similar as to how the japanese wore monster looking masks in order to scare their opponents in battle, it's just a scare tactic. also, they didnt create the box, it was handed to them by the gods.
77 - yes because jaguar guards are foreigners brought in by trinity and she's dressed like one, there's no reason to be suspicious. if she spoke with a quechuan accent now that would be a red flag
94 - a dagger and box that can reshape the world would be a pretty safe bet when looking for immortality
102 - it's not a memory, it's a desire, that scene never happened but she can make it real with the power. Unuratu even explicitly tells you that the power will show you your greatest desire in order to trick into making your personal wish instead of restoring the sun and how she has trained all her life to resist it. even the entire existence of the crimson fire is to make sure whoever holds the power doesnt fuck up. it's a major plot point.
ever thought a mea culpa video?
@HQ Skykes Nice job, I wish I had the time to continue this list and explain how this guy is wrong in everything he says in this video. This chunk of points just shows how is simply a mad hater trying to sound smart.
well i didnt want to sound that harsh to be honest... and whoever does these videos is way smarter than whoever does the cinemasins videos...try watching them, they are the epitome of ignorance. and that's a lot, you know, being on the internet and all. i just wished a bit of research was in place for this video and the rest of the series
Kenshin, not everything he says is wrong. I usually agree with most of sins in a given video. In fact, you comment seems more to me as a fanboy blindly defending his favorite game. I haven't played the game but I can agree with a lot of points he makes.
And this isn't a hate channel. It's a satiric channel, those sins are not supposed to be taken at face value. An example:
"Holy shit the producers think we are so stupid that they paint all the ledges in case we miss them! Instant no-buy for me!" Ledge paint might be sin, but it's trivial. There are some more glaring sins ( like those that obliterate suspension of disbelief )
Example: Game is trying to tell you aliens land in New York. Then it makes it clear there is absolutely no recording of it anywhere on the internet. It's pretty much impossible in our times for that to ( not ) happen.
@Lucas Miller So you are a fan boy of game sins, blindly judge the game and me because you feel entitled to, even tho you admit you haven't even played the game. Do yourself a favor, remove the fingers from the keyboard and slowly back way to where you came from.
How can you know if the things he said were not meant to be taken at face value if nowhere he mentions it, nor do you know about the game? Many of the things he says there are straightforward and not even funny.
About the paint on ledges, the game has options to remove the paint. I'm still wondering how you can agree to something that you know nothing about.
"So you are a fan boy of game sins, blindly judge the game and me because you feel entitled to, even tho you admit you haven't even played the game." I saw enough in this video to make my judgement. You haven't given a single argument why every single thing in this video is wrong. Your words, not mine. But yeah, go ahead, call me an entitled fanboy for no reason.
"Do yourself a favor, remove the fingers from the keyboard and slowly back way to where you came from." That's not how it works, buddy.
"How can you know if the things he said were not meant to be taken at face value if nowhere he mentions it, nor do you know about the game? Many of the things he says there are straightforward and not even funny." Because this is the core of most "sins" channels. Pick at small things ( usually ) and show how flawed the game is. However, flaws don't mean a game is instantly bad. Basically, the message of sins videos is "Your favorite game/music/film/anime/whatever is not perfect, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it and have fun." And yeah, even the straightforward things can be humor. Depends on person to person. Pointing something out in a deadpan matter is personally funny to me.
"About the paint on ledges, the game has options to remove the paint. I'm still wondering how you can agree to something that you know nothing about." He mentions that in the video, did you even watch it? Ledge paint is kind of a running gag in the games he reviews. So even if you can turn it off, ledge paint still technically exists in the game. * ding *
How did you not remove a sin for that badass classic-Croft scene when she comes out of the water??
Or adding one cause it reminds of terminator
Tomb raider 2013 was the best out of the new ones. I don't care about her dead father or Trinity ... TR2013 was a story about survival and doing what she needed to do to get out alive with her crew. Rise and I assume shadow are her actively looking for trouble and going up against a bland generic secret organization... That just has none of the personality that 2013 had. It's more interesting being on a mystic island then just going to random places all over the world... I really feel that everything about 2013 was the best the series could offer because it was just a really good game. If you give that survival mode from rise to the 2013 game then there would be no reason to play rise or shadow
Nier Automata had an incredible in medias res opening, you only realize later into the game it was one.
15:20 You can set the audio to "proper languages". So when lara talks english to them they respond in whatever they're speaking. It makes everything sound like a joke, because she speaks british to the mexicans and inca city folk and they reply in their native tongue yet everyone perfectly understands another.
Yes! Why did it took THREE games for Lara to have two cool moments!? (Th e "don't try me" and Sephiroth-flame behind scene)
At 14:13 the Snake Key looks like a shiny, coiled up turd. Clearly the artist who designed it knew what they were signing up for. *Ding!*
It looks like a coiled snake. DING.

I love all 3 games in the reboot trilogy, but Rise was definitely the best of the 3.
In my mind the reboot stopped at Rise of the Tomb Raider. I want to forget this one.
Finished replaying the series. You are absolutely right. Rise was far superior to this one, which feels rushed and the "dlc" should've been part of the main game.
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Agreed. Even the rewards were pointless, except 2 skills i think which where already in the skill tree the past 2 games. The last one felt like it should've been how the game ended and they scratched that and hid it behind a pay wall.
I liked Rise the best, best looking Lara and Jonah as well in rise. Loved Jacob character. Shadow is gorgeous, but preferred Rise.
I knew you were going to ding the natives perfect English. XD and what a worthwhile ding.
I just want to play as the duel pistol wielding badass that we all know and love. You don't get that in this game. You get a character who's dream is to be like her big brother Nathan Drake
*ding*
😂🤣😂😭😭😂🤣🤣
Y'know, this just confirms how much of a mess the entire reboot is simply based on how the writers try to evoke this more realistic Lara Croft: they keep reselling her immaturity and inexperience to increase tension, but in the second game, everything already feels stale.
Lara's character is constantly walking in circles while the writers desperately cling to the worn-out "strong woman" angle, god forbid she could ever muster some goddamn self-confidence! Cause that'd draw parallels to the original character, and everyone's supposed to think new Lara is a much better female protagonist because she has no giant tits, when she also lacks character depth in similar quantities to cup size compared to the original.
I feel like this is pretty much the successful version of what Sakamoto attempted to do to Samus with *Metroid: Other M* , just not quite as awful as that shameful piece of crap. Samus never recovered from that betrayal, Lara can still return to form IF the developers have the balls to go there...
funny thing is, Naughty Dogg made two better versions of Lara in their uncharted: lost legacy.
I still like the Tomb Raider reboot than all the uncharted games tbh
I just wonder how it's possible that after 3 game Tomb Raider feels so repetitive when Uncharted managed to last 4 (5) games.
I guess the difference is that Nathan Drake is able to have some fun and make few jokes while Lara tries really hard to be as serious as possible.
Uncharted has better side characters and writing. More diverse locations. Shadow resorted to repeating some of the exact same story beats of Rise.
I never played the Uncharted series but I imagine it has something to do with Lara literally has the same, non existant character arc in every single game. There's no greater over arching character story being told and is just contrived plot point after contrived plot point.
Uncharted series are repetitive, too. Just notice that all it has is 'shoot-shoot', Nate searching for a treasure that doesn't exist and arguing with everyone that it's too dangerous to continue the journey (even repeating the arguing between Nate and Elena in Uncharted 4).
Nate has character improvement to each installment. This Lara has none, except for the LAST hour of shadow. In the epilogue no less.
@@giofredlivandertorrescarmo6350 the overall story for uncharted was amazing . This story I was like really that's it . Never was I like that on uncharted
12:00 The Inca had wheels, but didn't use them for transportation. They placed wheels on toys, but they didn’t use them for wagons or carts because they didn’t have suitable animals to pull them, combined with a sylvan or mountainous terrain.
Captain Enix, were gonna need a bigger reboot
I know that's a reference to something, but what?
@@IamaPERSON I think it's a reference to Jaws.
When the shark appears for the first time, one of the crew members said "we're gonna need a bigger boat". And that quote has been referenced several times in other movies and media.
@@JThePervertedSummoner seems legit, in a non joking sense, too.
Yep, that was the entire joke
It was also referenced in the Blood game from 1997.
Yo you dont know how dissapointed i was that they didnt put sam with lara. Like you would believe after almost losing her best friend and going through a traumatic experience they would stick together but naaah
I felt the same way. I guess they couldn't get the voice actor again?
Lazy comic write off concluded Sam's story with her being hidden away from Trinity
@Sir Galahad I thought Lara saved her from the asylum, though last time we saw Sam in the comic she was still in the hospital. They could have brought her back, just decided not to.
@Sir Galahad epilogue of the whole comic series is she is freed of the spirit and Lara sends her and Sam's mother off to hide from Trinity
Game devs were probably too scared to have only female main characters because stinky fanboys would be offended.. but I cant say that fear is unfounded
Really can’t stand “Lara Craft: Let’s gather items and make stuff” The camping, the crafting, the animals that don’t act like animals (rip jaguars)...no thanks.

Cherrapin Croft I already have, thanks so much, now gtfo.

I mean, Mardi Gras IS the most interesting thing about this state. I find it hard to blame writers for using it.
Don’t think I didn’t hear you pronounce the s at the end either, Dart.
Google pronounces it Mardi Gra
there are many legitimate issues with both this trilogy and its story that you have pointed out but i feel like a fair few of these sins could be erased simply by you taking the time to learn the lore of the games
Truly, just got around to playing it myself (which is why I reply to your comment after a whole year) but like, the English part is quite well explained with the lore about Trinity coming there in the 1600s and teaching them English and having a presence there ever since. The fact that not everyone there speaks English is a bigger mystery really, that's usually how it goes.
You said none of the media res does it right but remember your Uncharted 2 Video. That one did it right.I know cause I'm a huge Uncharted Fan and seeing that made me happy haha
also a nitpick but wtf is wrong with Lara's hair in this game's design
it looks like an extremely ugly wig
He is playing on the high FPS instead of high res
Just letting ya know, Sam's locked up in some kind of mental facility or something bc it turns out at the end of 2013 Queen Himiko still had a hold on her (in all reality Square probably just couldn't get the voice actress or something so they made up some bullshit story about it in the comics)
Suspension of disbelief isn't nearly enough for the plot of this game. You have to put your brain in fucking airplane mode entirely.
Extra sin: The ending song isn't sung by a Spanish speaking person and it shows.
It’s like a good idea with poor execution.
How many times did I say ‘I hate this game’.
So glad I didn’t pay for it.
Me too...Rise of the TR was better
Am I the only one who prefers the reboot series to the original series? Don't get me wrong. The classic games are great, but the reboot series is just more fun for me.
I love this whole series. It is not Uncharted and people seem to be upset about that. Also, if you have a PC with a good graphics card, it is completely different from consoles (Any of them). Also, having a M.2 SSD will make loading times super fast and make the game all the more fun.
Ppl are upset that uncharted does everything better
which reboot? If it's the 2013-2018, you are in the minority.
+sjhmagic1
Yeah, I meant the 2013-2018 series.
Meee!
Next time Assassin Creed Odessy.
Yes, can't wait to see the sins.
@@Ch50304 Have you finished the game.
That whole thing is a sin of itself.
@@HKLYTUNG it's an abomination of grind, greed and microtranssctions.

Why do all her games start with a plane crash she survived? If I had her luck I wouldn't fly any more. They need to go by boat, car or train but I'm sure they would crash too.
"Normally a minigun plus a slow missing target equals death."
Allow me to introduce you to the wonderful word of X-Com 2.
It didn't have that TR feel. All 3 felt off in some way, like the first had no tombs. The second had this thing for always removing control to focus on some panning shot so my momentum was interrupted and the third one felt lazy in terms of writing. Like the "End of the world" was just an eclipse and Patiti is going to found sooner or later. They are just delaying the inevitable. And Trinity being defeated while Lara climbs a wall felt like the big build up with Trinity was wasted. And the absolute WORST thing was the memorable theme song was NOWHERE.
New Lara Croft isn't that bad, but the issue with the reboot is that everything that Lara Croft was iconic for is dead and gone.
1) The breast and OG outfit, I'm getting this shit out the way cause it's the most obvious one. Regardless if people want to admit it or not, it's the truth and just like how fans freaked out regarding Dante hair not being white in DMC, Sonic arms being blue in Sonic boom, or zero suit samus getting pumps/platform shoes added to her suit in other m, people got upset about this. Though I believe more people were upset by the reason for the change instead of the redesign itself.
2) The other most obvious one, the dual pistols. I get the bow and arrow trend was going strong when the reboot first launched, but by now that she came so far in her journey, people are expecting to get the old school lara, which they aren't getting.
3) Gameplay, I get the point of reinventing the wheel, making gameplay fresh, but the style of old school tomb Raiders game is completely gone. Feel like they're trying too hard to be super serious and dark, and as a result are losing that fantasy, escapist appeal that older games had.
That's just my view looking at things, new school Lara Croft is cool in my book, and the gameplay is nice in my opinion, but I say that as a more new fan amd not a TR veteran. I just think they changed things too fast and too quick. Maybe new and old Lara could be blended into one another a bit better. Though this is just my thoughts on what I seen people upset about on the net, I could be enterily wrong, just seems like a bit more old school Lara style was blended in the reboot wouldn't cause such a split in the fanbase
I rather pissed that lara never dual wield handguns. She does that already back im 2013! And all the sudden her ICONIC gameplay got booted out?! Not cool!
I don't think her boobs have anything to do with it. Lara is pretty in the reboot, she's sexless. But pretty. Also it's nothing like Dante. The dev's from that team got death threats, petitions, and boycotts. I agree about the angst. That is cropping up a lot in media today. But overall the game series has a boring story arc that repeats itself. And overall, it is lacking in exploration.
@@sjhmagic1 I only brought up her breast, cause regardless if they shrink them or make them bigger, it will always be a hot topic cause it's an iconic part of her character. She's still pretty darn buxom in the reboot, it's just her appearance is drastically different from OG Lara. Underworld and Legend made her appear more realistic too little by little, but they both still kept the core look of Croft, and just switched some things around. I brought up Dante, cause yes while the reaction for DMC was more extreme, it was still in regards to the same issue. The character appearance was too drastically changed upsetting fans. That, combined with the changes in gameplay, etc probably was just too much change at once. Yeah, the reboot could still use a little work, though honestly if they add more of that old flavor of gameplay the older games had amd mix it with the gameplay in the reboot, and give her back the dual pistols, I think people would overlook the change is story and her personality a bit more. I just think they changed a bit too much of the character, there isn't much familiarity between the new school and old school from what I've seen
Shadow of the TR happened two weeks after Rise yet Jonahs hairstyle changed from an afro to a manbun
Jonah became from black dude to latin American dude😂
Tomb Raider peaked with the Legend - Anniversary - Underworld trilogy. Fact.
I strongly agree
I think it peaked with The Last Revelation
i really liked the first of the latest trilogy. rise was ok but a step back and shadow was a huge step back and the worst of the trilogy by far.
Anniversary is still one of my favorite games of all time.
@@chs_ambs8356 Word! And how they handled Lara's first kill was infinitely better in Anniversary than the 2013 game. In Anniversary, it's made painfully clear that she could have just stepped back and walked away, but she deliberately chooses to cross that line in order to achieve her goals, making her a compelling and ambiguous heroine. In the reboot the is forced to kill an evil Russian stereotype trying to strangle her and she flip-flops between being a blubbering teen and Rambo-type serial killer for the rest of the reboot.
Plus Anniversary just featured her exploring Incan ruins and didn't try to make Lara the white savior of a bunch of indians living in a stereotypical hodgepodge of Mayan, Incan and Aztec culture.
Don't forget that there was a part (before the oil field) where you needed to stealth kill enemies, because otherwise they would fire at you, but you couldnt pick up their weapons.
Yeah, that was just pretty ridiculous to be honest... "Yes, I'll knife you in the throat, but just totally ignore the fact that you have weapons and night vision goggles I can use"...
We not gonna talk about how epic Lara rising out of the water is? We also gonna ignore how impactful and emotional her breakdown is?
Lara’s emotions stuck with me
Trinity was actually referenced in 2013, both in documents sent to the Japanese forces on the island, and the search and rescue vessel that responds to Lara's broadcast being named Trinity, so not "in the last game"
This Lara's face looks strange.
uncanny valley
Yes, especially when she narrows her mouth, it deforms a little.
Her hair seems so odd in Shadow, almost like a way too thick wig with tons of hairspray glued into it.
Looked waaaay more natural in Rise.
8:20 ,,Johnah take Lara’s tank top of when you bandage her back“
It seems they were trying to outdo Uncharted 2 for the opening, yeah not even Uncharted 4(a better game overall) beat Uncharted 2's opening.

You're REALLY fast with sinning new releases, hats off.
It’s hardly a game, it’s more an extended Quick Time event. You have control over your loadout (that you grind for hours to upgrade) for a very brief time, you’re led by the nose to any battle, where your weapons or lack thereof are chosen for you. For the most part no scene is skippable even in NG+ no matter how many playthoughs you have. If the devs want to make movies…go make movies and let someone who wants to make games take a crack at it.
I think we played different games
I still think it’s a great game
I’m awarding you 1,000 sins for that
I'm playing it right now and I like it. Haters can suck on it..
This game is awesome
@@Leechwife I just got around to playing it myself, certainly liked it more than Rise for one. Not sure why, but I really quite disliked that entry in the trilogy. At least in comparison to the other two.
@@crazycat690finally someone who thinks the same as me, i would literally play any of the trilogies BUT rise again 😅
The first time i saw Dominguez i instantly thought, hey, that's Al Pacino.
Anyone else wishes that SquareEnix let sells Crystal Dynamics or let them go independent like what happened to Hitman ? this whole ''realistic'' annoying Lara didn't work for me and looking at the earnings it seems like it kinda failed to reach its target 3 times in a row so far , Go independent , remake Anniversary in this new engine , tweak the dual pistols game-play a bit make it more skillful by removing the auto-locking and boom.
SquareEnix doesn't tell them how to write the stories for their games. It's all on the shoulders of the creative team at CD. So any bad writing or design is firmly on them, not the publisher. Letting them go independent wouldn't change anything. Hiring better writers and designers would.
I loved the first reboot game of tomb raider but rise and shadow just weren't as good the story literally just copied the 2013 one and I hate that they changed her face because she was so pretty in 2013 tomb raider. I was mad they didn't pick Samantha to be her side kick it would make more sense and would probably have more fun dialogue and could create deeper connection like sam and Lara would actually go to tombs together.
I just finished this game, and I must say it's my least favorite of the three. The story and gameplay was pretty boring imo. The first was fantastic, the second was good, but this one was so 'meh'.
12:21 in one of the notes laura finds theres a man many years ago who had something to do with paititi and the only isolated sentence was "I will teach them English". They were taught by someone from outside, since they let them in before they betrayed them. There were tons of outsiders until Amaru decided to not let anymore in. Within all those outsiders coming in and the teachings I would hope they would pick up on something yaknow...
I loved that game! Of course I would change some things but was awesome
This game's plot is almost identical to the Rise of Tomb Raider. And Rise was already pretty similar story-wise to the 2013 reboot. Why did they think playing the same game the third time, just in different setting, would be interesting, is beyond me.
Dont see why they couldn't have introduced natla at the end unless they are planning to reboot the original games aswell
I remember you asking the same question about Jonah in your RotTR sin video:
The reason is that Sam's soul was kinda damaged by the failed possession ritual in the ending of TR (2013) and she went nuts and had to be taken to an asylum IIRC:
It was explained in one of the comics that randomly popped up after the first game, I suppose.
Just to clarify Sam didn't go nuts she was partly possessed by Himiko who managed to get part of her soul into Sam. This was later undone in the tie-in comic Choice and Sacrifice where Lara is able to help Sam get ride of Himiko via the Wei Mirror, (which is actually a real thing go look it up :D).
However, the question remains why was Sam parked and Jonah brought in as Lara's companion. He has little to no personality, has Zero Agency in the plot, hasn't really done anything that was actually helpful to Lara. Has actually called Lara selfish for wanting to save the world and has, in fact, made the situation WORSE in every game.
Seriously, in every game towards the end of the games second act Lara finally manages to get things under control and then Jonah does something so STUPID that it undoes all of Lara's hard work and nearly results in the villains almost winning. From trusting Whitman who Lara outright states betrayed her and Sam, holding onto the Atlas while getting kidnapped by Trinity in Rise and taking the Silver Box into a Trinity strong hold to "keep it safe" Jonah makes worse choices then Lara does in EVERY GAME!!!
Oh, and at the time of this video Jonah has been captured 5 or 6 times in the games and if we include the comics then he has been captured 10 or 11 times. In just the games Sam was only captured twice, ONE OF WHICH WAS JONAH'S FAULT, and 3 more times in the comics and out of those three she saved herself AND LARA twice. Hell she was the one who ultimately defeated Himiko as she had to force Himiko to look upon the Mirror to get her out of her soul.
No sin about Jonah's color change for the second time.
They should have Omec as the narrator for the series 😂
dude. ever heard of "character development"? that's why it's still part of the origin story. she is just now becoming the legendary tomb raider.
@CJ P. unlikable doesn’t equal no development. And just because you didn't like her doesn't mean she's unlikable in the first place.
There are plenty people who do like her. I actually like her better in some ways.
@CJ P. oh? Then what was the argument you were trying to make?
@@maubeerbluffin4552 Pretty much. I liked her character more here. Jonah's new look amazed me as well and their dynamics are great. The story is somehow boring, but at least the enviroment and stunning graphics somehow save that. But I'm probably saying that because I had no expectations.
Exactly! People are just bitter because she isn’t this “perfect and sarcastic pointy tits character “
She became everything but the legendary tomb raider
Has anyone noticed that Trinity from rise-of-the-tomb-raider seems to be a completely different organization from the Trinity that we get in Shadow?
Silent Hill Downpour
i don't know if i missed something in prievous games, but in Rise, Lara said she fought with her dad just before she heard the gun shot. I suppose that could have happened still but the flashback seemed like Lara was just told to do homework. Also, Lara's dad locked away ms corft's stuff in the west wing according to blood ties. In Blood Ties, lara also said she was still a baby when her mother died.
Modern Tomb Raider formula... look at Uncharted, and try to do exactly what they did.
No
Yeah, but the result is a bad copy most of the time
Uncharted formula... Completely rip off Tomb Raider but change the main characters sex.
Edenian Kitana *There’s a difference between something being inspired by, and completely derivative of* …
Uncharted certainly takes inspiration from tomb raider in premise, but the scope and execution far exceeded anything that tomb raider ever accomplished.
And you could easily argue that Indiana Jones was far more of inspiration for uncharted than Tomb Raider was. It was the foundation for both of those games… And even games like Pitfall that came before them.
The difference is that Uncharted didn’t take all of the fundamental mechanics and character aspects from Tomb Raider when they were creating their game.
Whereas the modern iteration of Tomb Raider is basically a lesser Uncharted with a female lead…
It may even be inferior to The Lost Legacy, which was originally only going to be a DLC expansion. Because Chloe is far more entertaining and charismatic than Lara.
It’s ironic because Tomb Raider went from being the inspiration to completely losing its own, and copying what it originally inspired.
Zack Smith Which came first? That’s right Tomb Raider. So....
I stopped playing this game once I got to the native’s city. I still haven’t done anything past there.
This game really took a lot from uncharted, mainly with the thing of the protagonists being the first ones to decipher a clue that tells them where to go next but when they arrive there, the villain group is already there inexplicably.
What confuses me more about this game is how a guy, born in an ancient civilization with pagan beliefs, would go out and form an organization that presents themselves as a secret orthodox Christian society although christianity has nothing to do with his beliefs.
Brainwashing
Also, AC:Oddysey, "this isn't assasins creed anymore"-Random gamer that played the first AC game
I had the feeling the whole story with trinity was a bit lazy. They should have introduce us to the high council and maybe give us more backround infos about the characters and how they work together. Remember when Ana said she sacrificed everything for trinity? But they never showed it. And an important character like Rourke was very much underused. Trinity was more like a ghost. I appreciate how they tried to give dominguez and konstantin a more or less tragic reason to be evil but it was not enough imo... But i still like the games very much.
The fact that he reference Kuzko tho xD
And a sin for when Lara and jonah fall through the floor after getting the box and then when you swim back to the entrance Jonah is already there, captured!?🤔
Enjoyed the 2013 reboot a lot and i loved Rise even more but something just felt "off" about this one. It wasn't actually developed by the original crew who made 2013 and Rise, it was made by the Deus Ex studio.
I'm sorry, did the queen of those tribal people just call Demingaz "Kortal Khan?" What did he leave Outworld and decided to fallow in Shau Khan's footsteps by conquering Earthrealm?! Lol
I miss the classic badass Lara! Games nowadays focus too much on the characters emotional responses that it ruins it for me. Also when did games become movies as well? They should be called something else cuz I don’t want to sit there watching a movie. I wanna fuckin win the game!
People want actual stories for their games. And a story focused game =/= a movie
I prefer story games way more then console games. But that is me. I cannot stand massive button mashing games. I like to watch the cut scenes and feel emotionally attached to the characters.
