    If you are going to send a console generation out with a bang you could do worse than Ghost of Tsushima - like Last of Us 2 for instance. This may be my most positive sin video ever, which means it probably sucks since no one likes it when I'm nice to a game. I counted its sins regardless though.

    The reason why Shimura is angry at Jin at the end, is because he taught the commoners how to stand up and fight. The Samurai's are the elites and aristocracy. They're the ones who protects the people and in return the have obedience and loyalty from those commoners. But Jin not only taught those commoners how to fight, he killed the Khan without even relying on the Samurais. With the commoners now armed for battle, loyal to the Ghost like he's their lord, will those commoners obey the Shogunate and the Samurais ? I don't think so. This is the reason why Jin's status as a Samurai is removed, and a new Lord will take his place. There are hints of this during the game, even Samurais from the mainland want to reinstore the Samurai political power and ask Jin to forget about the Ghost because they fear commoners will lose respect in the Samurais.

    • @ReijiArisu1211

      Shimura tells Jin that Samurais exists to inspire the people, but when they do take weapons to fend for themselves. Shimura is happy when Ishikawa and Masako are here to help him, but he's immediatly dismissive of Yuna, a commoner.

    This has to be your best video yet. Though I will say this, I think you miss the point of three key scenes.
    The sin you mention where Jin takes issue with Shimura sending men to die at his castle but not taking issue with the battle of Komoda Beach ignores Jin's character development and the scene's context. At the beginning of the game, Jin thinks that the men going to die will receive an honorable death. And that the only option, the honorable option is to charge into battle head-on. At this point, because Yuna has convinced Jin to think outside the box and consider dishonorable methods, he sees another way that could solve their mongol problem without adding to the Japanese death toll. Jin seeing his Uncle go for an option that will lead to more casualties is what causes him to say that Shimura sent his men to die. Because Shimura would sooner protect his honor than his own men.
    Second, there are numerous moments where Shimura is shown to be quite the hypocrite, what with his connection to Goro, a pirate, as well as his willingness to blame Yuna for Jin's actions. It speaks to the fact that, as Sensei Ishikawa says in one of his missions, "You shouldn't expect every samurai to perfectly embody honor."
    Third is the reason that the Shogun wants Jin dead. During the final mission, Shimura makes plainly clear that it isn't about honor anymore, it's about classism. The shogun is worried about the public no longer looking to the samurai for aid. It's about the elite (the samurai) being afraid of a revolt (brought on by Jin's actions as the Ghost). So they want Jin dead to make an example to the people not to revolt against the ruling class.

      but jins a samurai, he reinforces the idea that samurai protect their people, and that they should be looked on favorably and with respect. the shogun must have an extra chromosome because taking away jins status as a samurai is what creates the issue of making the samurai look weak/ incapable of defending their people. Also the only way the shogun would even know about the poison would be if shimura ratted out his own nephew, which is just like, wtf dude? Shimura is just way too damn rigid even for a character who is supposed to be overly rigid.

    • @EntertainmentExpertz
      @EntertainmentExpertz 4 года назад +99

      @@vaughnrobbins9771 Except the Samurai are expected to live by their code. And Jin does not. No amount of justification will make up for the fact that his ignoring of Shimura's orders and poisoning of the Mongols is a BLATANT act of disrespect to samurai as well as their code. By this logic, the shogun, and by extension Shimura are saying, "You are making the commoners lose respect for the samurai and their code! Giving them ideas about fighting for themselves! And if they don't look to us for aid! What's to stop them from overthrowing us! Especially when they adopt your dishonorable methods!" Also Shimura wasn’t the only one who knew about the poison. Remember that the Shogun’s men entered the scene with him, seeing the carnage that Jin caused against the mongols.

    • @EntertainmentExpertz
      @EntertainmentExpertz 4 года назад +59

      Super JLK that’s the thing, the shogun’s fear is overpowering his reason. He’s afraid of a peasant’s revolt and sees Jin as the face of it, because he’s gained the love and respect of the people. The shogun sees a threat to the samurai’s power and wants it taken out. Obviously we don’t see a lot of civilians joining the fight against the mongols, but the shogun doesn’t care. As far as he’s concerned, Jin’s their leader.

      It’s true, I think the main “insult” from Jin wasn’t even his supposed “lack of honor”, it was his disobeying and being loved by the people, thus bringing power back into the hands of the common folk when they realize they don’t really need the samurai. That was the real threat, shimura’s reprimand about lack of honor is just excuses and him being upset that he’s been outranked by his nephew who openly disobeys him.

    00:54 Dartigan immediately assumes he knows that the Japanese never battled at night.
    During the actual Mongol invasions of Japan, the Japanese would launch raids during the night to attack Mongol ships. Usually to set them ablaze.
    In 1576, Oda Nobunaga attacked Uesagi Kenshin at night with 30,000 men.
    The 47 Ronin, one of Japan's favorite tales ... the ronin attacked at night.

The words Tachi and Katana are not names of swords, but the mounts used for long swords of 60cm or more in length. Tachi slings the sword by a cord from the waist with cutting edge downward, whereas Katana mounts have the sword in the waist belt with cutting side up (or Uchigatana).
    Both Tachi AND Katana were made and in use during the Kamakura period (when GoT was set), and both were also used afterwards, up to the 19th century. When Tachi blades were shortened to the point that its original tang almost disappears, it becomes a katana.

      Still, the soft lock could use a bit of tweaking. There were more than a few times I aimed towards the only enemy on that side of the screen, and had Jin swing next to them instead of at them

    • @tonsofamateurgaming296
      @tonsofamateurgaming296 4 года назад

      Just because you couldn't think of how to make it work, doesn't mean there wasn't a way to make it work. You liked the lack of lock on and many people agree. Many other people didn't like it and for good reason(s) whether you would agree or not.
      What doesn't make sense is assuming that all the gamers _(of which there are many)_ that recognized and didn't overlook the flaws in the system just had trouble with the stick and or broken controllers. In systems like this one, it is common for the character to not target who you were aiming at and sometimes glitch to the point of targeting people nowhere near. It happens. Not enough to to make the game unplayable/unenjoyable, but enough for most to notice it.

      I think it was a good choice, that makes the combat different from all those expensive Dark Souls clones that I grew tired of seeing (Darksiders 3, Fallen Order, The Surge, Absolver, whatever else I can’t think of now). Only The Surge (2) improved it, others were straight up copying it. It’s slow, boring, mind-numbing, is just a waste of time and doesn’t work well outside of From’s games, because it wasn’t fucking created by any of them.
      Also, I heard some series called “God of War” never had any lock-on features and been doing fucking awesomely for more than a decade now...
      There is also this whole genre called “slasher”.

    3:30 In Japanese dub everyone always talk about Tachi, even when the subs say Katana and the swords look more like Tachi to me anyway ( Slightly longer handle and little more curved blade than katana ), but if they have Tachis in game, they wear it wrong... Katana is worn blade up ( like in game ) and Tachi is worn blade down. But if you had it Tachi way with Tachi techniques, you wouldn't be able to do those awesome stand-offs, because that IAI slash from the sheath wouldn't be either possible or invented yet.

    I will say that the Straw Hat Ronin not being able to trade or be given aid by regular townsfolk might be realistic, as in feudal society being a Ronin was to be seen as the ultimate failure and was a greatly dishonorable title to have. That being said, that stigma is tied to the presentation of a warrior's honor in Bushido, which Dartigan pointed out didn't exist yet, so that's a tough call.

Also, I would like to complement Dartigan on the fact that, unlike CinemaSins, his sins honestly make sense most of the time. Things like the Kahn not killing either Jin or Shimura when they refused him just doesn't make sense to me given everything we know about the Mongols and Genghis most of all.

    I think it's fair to assume Taka was captured in the early hours of the invasion, which prompted Yuna to check out the beach where the invasion began, and thus found Jin after checking several other dead samurai. Still far-fetched obviously, as it means Jin was lying on the shores severely wounded for anywhere between half a day or even a full day before Yuna dragged him to the village she was hiding out in.
    Also, there are some legends about the art of setting swords aflame, though I think it was said the blades were designed to handle being on fire, whereas the game just lets almost any bladed weapon be capable of the technique.

If you played as the ghost killing people from behind and using poison you unlocked the ghost skills and if you played as a samurai honorable and always facing your enemy head on you unlocked better samurai skills. Each choice giving you a different ending that could’ve been cool in my opinion.

    Damn, since you brought up that detail about japanese sword smiths inventing the katana for the mongol invasion, I can’t stop thinking about what could have been. Starting with the tachi or another weapon less effective against the mongols, it gives more of a reason for Jin to break his code as the weapons he uses dont work against the mongol forces and has to resort to other, less honorable means. When Jin meets Taka and asks for the hook, they could work in a way for Taka to create the Katana for Jin, it being the first katana ever, making it easier to cut through the mongol armor and defeat the Kahn’s army.

If Khotun can get the island to surrender peacefully that means the mongols now have a landing zone in which they can strategize, launch attacks and have reinforcements on standby should they be needed. Having Tsushima surrender peacefully means they would not have to deal with rebellion while preparing their fleets and troops on the island.
