This looks very interesting. I’ll be curious to see how this product compares to existing 3rd party solutions as an enhancement or potential replacement. Features comparisons and the total spend TBD soon I hope. Then layering in how or if Purview has any access to this toolset will be interesting from an eDiscovery standpoint.
Great video! Im currently working as a pentester with a focus on cloud environments, so I always appreciate your channel as aninsight into the administrative side. With this in mind, I would greatly appreciate it, if you could mention security relevant aspects of the administrative tools as well (e.g. the exact permissions needed for performing the actions shown) :) Thanks for the content and have a great day!
Great video, thank you. This feature is great for a starting point but i was really hoping to see granular level restore for specific messages. I note it said restore from a time within the last two weeks. The video selected a date in 2022. An old recording? As a disaster recovery option then yes its great to have as a quick fix. 2 weeks is not enough though as I still have clients asking for mail from months ago, so im using another product for that. However like i say it certainly addresses a disaster recovery tickbox which is excellent. Just for clarity, when it says it recovers data from the time point selected does that mean the mailbox looks as it did potentially 2 weeks ago or does it incorporate recent mail with the restored data. I hope its a mix and not a mailbox roll back.
I wonder if the services come as a wrapped solution or if we get an API, as I want the archive the sites from our own Teams Governance tool, on our own schedule?
Thanks I’m on the second day of my antibiotics and I’m glad to say that they are working. I’m much better than I was yesterday. I can tell you. Another three days to go and hopefully it will be cleared. Thanks for the kind comment. 👍 😊
Retention policies cant replace backups. If there was an option to retain a file after it was deleted….that would work……but if its only after it was created or last modified does not cut it for obvious reasons.
Data remains in it's original place while under a retention policy, and cannot be deleted. Late once policy is done data will either move to recycle bin or remain in place but CAN be deleted.
No details yet as it’s still pending a final general availability. However, I’m wondering if this is going to be a Teams premium requirement. Full details to be announced 😊
Hi Andy, do you know if there is anything coming out with regards to library archiving? I’d love to be able to have an archiving policy based off last modified time of a file, I.e. last modified 5 years ago, archive to cold storage etc
Hello Andy am currently using a Business Premium tenant as of today but I can't see the M365 backup and Archive or is it set to release for general availability? ...great video btw
@@AndyMaloneMVP I can't wait for your hands on video on them. Please if you don't mind ,maybe you could mention to us the viewers they are set to release in Microsoft Quater 4 of 2024 ?
Would you happen to know if this new M365 Backup is going to capture private Teams channels & any files outside of any General folders in Teams? We've learned our Veeam solutions can't perform this, and I'm presuming all other solutions likely won't either as I am thinking it all has to do with the API's.
I’m not sure on specifics yet, but as you can already archive teams, I suspect this will be a feature back up. Final features and availability to be released soon.
Yes, in the Microsoft exchange admin centre, you can export a mailbox out by using the migration tool. You will also be able to do this, but the new Microsoft 365 backup feature

Hello Andy, Hope you are feeling much better today, I am testing Auto-apply a label in Data lifecyle management. Got a Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance license, applied to couple of users, created a Retention policies, create a Labels, on Label policies tab, I click on Auto-apply a label but takes me to a page with information Microsoft 365 trials "Discover more security and compliance capabilities in Microsoft 365 Defender and Microsoft Purview for free. Starting a trial will help you make informed decisions about upgrades and purchases. During the free trials, you'll have access to unlimited licenses. You can end trials at any time". Any idea why it is redirection to the page? I should expect it to take me through the process of setting up auto-labelling. Though I just gave the account used in access it a Microsoft 365 E5 Compliance. Do you have a video on this?
In the retention policies, can the content (SharePoint site, Teams, etc.) be configured to automatically be deleted after "y" period of time? I am thinking about scenarios where the lifecycle policy is clearly defined and we know that after "x" period of time we want the content to be archived and after "y" period of time being in the archive we want the data deleted. This would help automate the entire lifecycle.
@@AndyMaloneMVP I presume what Kevin was referring to is if the absolute worst case scenario - tenant is hijacked, admins locked out - but i suspect Microsoft 365 backup isn't meant to protect one against that scenario.
@@nimalds You are correct, was just curious when comparing costs what value I get out of M365 backups compared to backing up to a NAS and then backing that NAS data up to a cloud solution.

It's going to be interesting to what license is required or is it's a separate cost? One of my concerns is how are that going to protective both cloud environments. Putting your eggs in one basket is a scary thing.
Go into Microsoft 365 admin portal open up the properties of the user account and look for office installations tab. Notice the install status. Once you have uninstalled office, it should deactivate one of these options, if it doesn’t just select the offending machine and delete it.
