Money for nothin' and chicks for free
Now that ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them guys ain't dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger
Maybe get a blister on your thumb
We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's
See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup
Yeah buddy that's his own hair
That little faggot got his own jet airplane
That little faggot he's a millionaire
We gotta install microwave ovesns
Custom kitchens deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's
I shoulda learned to play the guitar
I shoulda learned to play them drums
Look at that mama, she got it stickin' in the camera
Man we could have some fun
And he's up there, what's that? Hawaiian noises?
Bangin' on the bongoes like a chimpanzee
That ain't workin' that's the way you do it
Get your money for nothin' get your chicks for free
We gotta install microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour TV's, Lord

I'm 73 and I'm just having a great flashback to a time when music was so creative! Can't stop my feet from tapping!!
Same of all fronts. We had and still have some fantastic music. Goes right to the core.

You just cant beat the 60's 70's and early 80's ROCK N ROLL God Blessed us all back then with Music that really had Heart Poured into it !!!!!!!! Miss being a Sound Engineer from those day's it was a Memorable Experience Tour Bus Runs and Early Rise for Set-Up and Sound Checks and late to Bed with a Good Joint and the Echo of the Tour Bus Engine purring me to sleep !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can still close my Eye's and Hear It, and Feel It, I can still remember Cruisin Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Strip going up and down the Blvd. when I wasn't on Tour, I had the Top Down Jammin And Cruisin nothing else like it, The Good Ole Day's WHEN MUSIC WAS A WAY OF LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the best of all was being able to go on Tour Overseas seeing other cultures of Life and There People so a Blessing to be able to reminisce on all of it is just knowing what I did I made a lot of People Happy !! and got to know them and can still call them My Friend's I still to this Day call some of them and write them God Bless all of Them and to many I can't R.I.P.
I was there, i lived above SunSet, there was a certain way of life back then my best time to grow up, i was 15 years old and in a rock band with my brother on the drums mbest frind singing a lead anx a rythym guitars, keyboard we were winners of the BATTLE OF THE BANDS 1966, and 67, the teenage fair on Sunset, the beach on week endscruising Mulhohand, Laurel Canyon
Maravilloso: sana forma de vida
guys like Clapton and Knopfler are so clean in their playing - and that makes it outstanding!
you know you're badass when Eric C plays rythm for you
Try telling that to the Beatles LOL
Yes 👌
He's done it before
Clapton's having fun...nothing to prove
So refreshing to see the audience clapping and dancing, as opposed to holding up their f*cking cellphones en masse.
Two of the worlds premier guitarist’s playing with confidence and without a trace of competition!
You gotta love Mark's playing style. So distinctive. When you hear it you know it's him .
May. Neim. Is. Mai.
Marks face shows how much he loves it!
This song has one of the best guitar and drum introductions. It really pumps you up.
I’m 72 and can’t believe I didn’t go totally nuts over people back in the day that had this amazing kind of talent. They are more important to us then any politician that ever slithered into the government.
The world was a completely different place when this video was uploaded. The world has changed but this song remains
Knopfler and Clapton ...two Jedi masters of the guitar
AGREE!
TheMobileHomestead They are in a class by themselves. 👍👍
Dont forget about JJ Cale!!

Also dont forget David Gilmour
Still relaxed here in 2024.....

When you hear their music something in you changes, and it’s never the same! The wild call of the guitar 🎸
This was one of the greatest concerts of all time, I remember watching this on tv as a child. (Live) Line up included; Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Status Quo to name a few. This started my love for music.
This was on VHS in my local library for reasons that will never be clear, I lived in a 5000 population small rural town in Finland back then.I would just repeatedly loan this tape and watch it. Status Quo, Dire Straits and Elton John were the artists presented. I didn't care so much for the others, I just re-watched Dire Straits again and again. Good times.
Nice closeup of Mark's finger style on this. He gets such a crisp sound with no finger picks or thumbpick. I am in awe!
He adopted his style of picking from Chet Atkins, and then built on it. His album “Brothers in Arms “ with Chet shows the admiration he had for the man.

What makes this video great is the music, the wind, the time of day, and the director of the video. Brilliant combo
SOLID GOLD, Sir.
Probably one the greatest Guitar Lead ins to any song. . .ever. . .two notes in and you know exactly what the song is and who's playing that guitar!
Hell fucking yeah! Man, what I wouldn't give to see this live.
Seulement. 🦉 2 accords.. Musique
I can't get enough of this song. It's the top 10 of all time!!
Goosebumps ! It never gets old...
I've said for a long time, I think Mark Knopfler is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time, rhe man is brilliant... And with Clapton that's insane... Ultra cool 😎
Look at the comments, then tell me he's underrated. Mark as never been underrated by fans or other professional musicians.
Hahahahahahaha....underrated????? Take care bro' what you comment.....never say that shit again....
He is absolutely underrated. 100%. Only older experts even know who he is. And a lot of guitar fans saay he isnt that great. Thats what underrated is...
Love how he looks over to Clapton with the blister on the thumb line. Knows his style is more technical. Acoustic turned electric. He’s bled
I don’t think he is underrated ... he is cornerstone of pop music in 80/90
Knopfler and Clapton. ❤️ Two very skilled musicians. There are a lot of technically more skilled - faster- kids out there. But if musicallity counts, there are few that matches them.
I haven’t seen any huge releases from kids lately that last decades....? Hence... I don’t really see what you mean.
"Two very skilled musicians" 😳 Two gods on the same set ! 🤣

Hey, this Mark Knofler is a master with the
guitar. Man he knows just how to rock the
crowds, and to really send them WILD !!
Keep goin' man !!!!
Geoff Laidler
So is Eric Clapton.
Charles H Mansfield 🙃😕🤨oo
@@charleshmansfield5786 and he is on stage as well.
Gary Moore, Tina S, Steve Vai, Gilmour, Clapton...
The incredible, powerful and awesome sound of the pensa suhr guitar in one of the best riff of the rock history. Unbelievable performance. Mark is the best.
That guitar sold for a huge sum at Christie's in January along with the LP that he actually recorded Money FN with..I think that made £$470000 about
two legends, knopfler and clapton, despite being an 80s child Im just discovering how great dire straits were
Good job you're into Dire Straits, start from the best!

My two favourite guitarists on the stage together. Priceless.
Clapton's carefree strumming here, is the second most badass thing in this performance. As for the first one, Mark grabs the place for me.
The blonde backup singer is absolutely gorgeous, I saw Dire Straits in Sydney in 1986 They played 20 concerts in Sydney, absolutely fabulous.
Thank you very much, Tessa is happily married and three years older than I am.
This is a legendary song which will never be forgotten
Saw Dire Straits play the whole album on their Brothers In Arms tour back in the '80s. One of the best concerts I've ever seen!
Thank goodness for you enjoying it live like I did back in the 80's ... Imagin is we had no utube to share this with friends and families around out world .. The healing process of music will help move our world out of the danger it's in ... heat fires safety w/ our next generation of children spiraling us back ...

Lucky you !
you know its great music when it draws all ages.
Genius at every level, the supreme irony of this being in heavy rotation on MTV , with thier "I wan my MTV" jingle, being mockingly added to the refrain ,it is simply scrumptious.
He just heard it in a mechanic shop in NY
@@arjanpetersen as if anyone who overheard a conversation in a shop could
1: get the idea to make it a song
2: think of all the music and riffs
3: play all the music and riffs (with help of band which I'm sure everyone has /s)
4: configure what you can remember of the conversation into an actually understandable verse. For like four verses.
5: think of the chorus. (He had to think of what part of the conversation would be the now iconic chorus)
6: actually get it all made and produced
What a great intro, the band eases into the main riff, and sees the massive response, the band tightens up in anticipation to deliver, rock n roll
He is a King..He is a Master..but also a very humble King and very humble Master..
He doesn't mind to be a sidekick or No.2 for his friends for many gigs and concerts like Mark Knopfler, George Harrison, John Lennon, BB King etc.
He is the Great ERIC CLAPTON !!!
See it here - two of the most brilliant guitarists the world has ever seen!
...yes...the guy with the red strat and clapton...😅
In 1985 I was stationed at Norton AFB in San Bernardino, California when I saw the video for this song on MTV. I'll never forget that day. Great song, better memory.
Had the joy of seeing Dire Straits on their Brother in Arms tour live in Calgary. Absolutely amazing. One of those moments in life you know?
what yr was that..was it during the Calgary stampede
TFCrow I know exactly what you mean. I saw same tour in Vancouver. We had a great view of Mark and the boys playing all their great tunes. Will never forget it.🎸
Man, the smile on those peoples face while they play will tell you everything you every need to know about life
Yeah!!! Those live concerts were amazing back then! The huge crowd enjoying every bit of the performance!

The days when bands were real and could rock , bring back the late 60's,70's and early 80's.
Mark Knopfler's suit is well coool, blowing in the wind.
5:18 - That is the smile of a man who could not be happier. Mark Knopfler... a true artist.
Hi. I typed the same comment a day before you typed yours. Mark looks well cool with the wind blowing on his suit.
It's a true musical badass that has Clapton playing rhythm and secondary lead guitar on stage! Mark Knopfler and Eric Clapton are music legends teaming up for this awesome song!
He also toured with Dire Straits.
For Sure!
I see tone deaf people have given thumbs down don't you know good music when you hear it one of best bands around
I was at this concert in Knebworth in 1990.. One of the best concerts ever.. What a day!
I was there also
This whole concert was brilliant.
Yeah, looks it.! Never knew the Straits played Knebworth..!
August '19 in Barcelona, 70 yrs of age still and still making the crowd rock with this song. 👍👍
What a genius. Still the best in the music business. He still rocks on. I grew up listening to dire strait music and I appreciate this version. Regards from Bougainville, PNG.😀.
Mark is also a great man. I worked as roadie at his concert in Zagreb and as we completed the stage, he made a toast opening every last can of beer for us, all by himself (!).
By the way, he already had his fingers insured at rate of $3M :-) What a great honour it was! I still have that empty can as souvenir.
Great!! You are one lucky guy to be associated with Mark Knopfler!
roadie*
Thanks, Tommy, I made correction.

you worked with Mark - that is so great to have that experience.
I love the way he kind of slows it down, gives the song a more country feel.
Days of REAL RAW TALENT!!!!!
Hi
Thirty years ago ! Where have all the years gone ? I really like Dire Straits. I used to say, "The second greatest band ever, after the Beatles.
Mark's guitar picking style was(is) beyond epic.
Only Eric Clapton could look so cool in pink.
My brilliant brother Colin bought tickets for my wife & I & we all went to this gig together. It was massive & full of talent all day.
"DIRE STRAITS - MONEY FOR NOTHING(Live At Knebworth)" all music for me sound so wonderful,, thank you for sharing ,
Mark is the real king of electric guitar. His solos are gripped with an extraordinary feeling for a nice and so fucking melodious...
When GIANTS played!!
MARK!!!!! rules
Mark is very good...but sorry...CLAPTON is KING
I think Clapton, Knopfler and Richard Thompson are *the* giants of British guitar playing. Not sure any of them is king as such. But all hugely talented lead guitarists and singer-songwriters (which is why I leave out, say, Jeff Beck).
Mark Knoeffer, une guitare électrisante, un musicien

I want my MTV!! Irony before irony became a thing. Back when MTV was a pure art form. Before Snooki and Jersey Shore. The kids these days don't know what they missed!
I was in front of my t.v. for the very first day on the air.
Video Killed The Radio Star came on, and I knew things were gonna get different.
If someone forced me into one of those boxy suits in exchange for my cell phone, I would gladly say YES and enjoy the moment with these guitar gods.
Yıllar sonra tekrar dinledim. 1000 yıl sonra yine dinlerim. Unutulmaz bir ruh muhteşem bir icra. Bu arada saz ve gitar arkadaş.

And he used his thumb, just like Toy Caldwell.

Mark and Eric on the same stage at the same time I don't think you can get much better than that PERIOD
When I'm a little down, I've bookmarked this and will play to lift my mood! That's the way I do it! (and it works, with a combination of Lynard Skynard, Rolling Stones & Classic Rock N' Roll from the 70's - 80's. I was at Mile High Stadium Aug. 2019 for Stones Concert. Rock N' Roll is a a lasting cultural phenomena!
Ray Cooper on percussion. Who else? He's been everywhere. What an icon

When your live performances are as good as what you can do in the studio!
Just watch the best rock percussionist of all time, Ray Cooper at the back there....sensational!!
Was there that day. Great bands. And along with these two guitar gods were Marvin, Page and Gilmour
those suits! hoooly shit. incredible how this was considered top notch fashion back then^^
but it's all about the music anyways...that will never be outdated....simply mind blowing.
Yeah it makes them look even older than they are
Compared to flannel pajamas, a hoodie and slippers that exemplifies today's fashion? Give me a pastel suit with expensive shoes any day.....those were the days.
What a great song , god damn!!! And 15 people on stage playing it ) Amazing
My favourite song...love love...

You know you've made it when Eric Clapton plays backing guitar for you.
At the concert , part of the set had Elton on keyboards , Phil Collins on drums and Clapton. I'm sure Paul McCarney featured somewhere as well but my memory is a bit fuzzy.
He's a bass player of course, but are you sure it's not Sting? There's a version of this song featuring Knopfler, Clapton, Sting on bass and vocals and Phil Collins.

Mark’s guitars are so clean. Love when they take it for a walk before they lay into the track.
