They gave him everything that he wanted, so how could they be a scam?
what pisses me off is that thanks to popular places like DKoldies, local shops put up similar prices at the store when that wasn't the case months ago.
Oh that's sickening.
It's pretty depressing; SNES with cords and a controller from Game Over/local retro store is $200+. I can find a similar condition console bundled with 3-5 decent titles elsewhere. Back to ebay and whatnot.
People at flea markets will just use eBay prices and not even have any set prices for their games. If I wanted to order from eBay, I wouldn't have come to a flea market
Yup my local game store has been selling so many games close to DKOldies prices I had to stop supporting them. It’s companies like DK that are killing off so many mom and pop game stores for it’s either compete with their prices and close down since you’re not making any money or close down completely.
@@Kermitgottagun I wish I had a mom and pop gamestore near by.
It’s a good thing Rich bought the Premium package. Otherwise, he probably would have gotten live roaches and cigarette butts in the shipping box.
He should buy the standard package & see what it actually looks like. Maybe an SNES.
I personally think if the console is full of roaches and cigarette butts it should be classified as a potential bio hazard and should be destroyed
Maybe instead of the console they just send you a plastic fish and a cassette labeled "booty jams."
Fun Fact: they sell live roaches in a package as live feeders for animals in the pet trade. Particularly lizards and I know this because I have a bearded dragon.
The regular set, they just come to your house and kick you in the nuts.
So glad these scammers are finally getting put on blast.

The fact that they actually expect people to spend $300 on a NES is freaking hilarious 😂
I mean, people clearly do. Rich ain't the first or last sucker to buy one for that price, sadly.
I got one for 75 with 2 controllers and Mario and duck hunt at a local place
If it's professionally refurbished internally and outside. Sure... but it seems they don't do that
Considering you can go to a garage sale or thrift store and get one for much cheaper, yeah it's quite hilarious.

I'm not American and only know DKOldies through their videos. Never ordered anything from them. They seemed nice enough, but now I might just stop consuming their content. Here in Brazil, tech is something that is extremely expensive and usually hard to acquire. My family has spent considerable money on products that weren't 100% pristine or didn't even work.

To be fair, the NES did come with philiphead screws. The SNES and later came with the hexagon one
True...the SNES is a pain though to fix because of this 🤣 had to buy a new screwdriver just to unscrew it.
The SNES used something called "gamebit" security screws. I had to buy a set when I took apart my SNES cartridges to replace the capacitors and battery mod them. I would love to buy some retro games again but prices are a lot of games are really stupid right now so I lost interest.

The NES I owned as a kid had screws that my dad did not have a screwdriver for. I would assume he had a phillips head or flathead or a knife or file or something but instead, the NES remained closed. It might be a region or revision difference.
Their success is only due to the production on their videos. Their editing is really good. Its a shame that their practices can't match that.
That’s such a common denominator on con artists.
This is why I go to my local retro store. They're aware of DKOldies and ashamed of their practices and WON'T overprice their items like them.

I know my local store "retrojakes" has an app and they sell stuff. From what I've seen they don't charge too much and they have decent trade-in prices. I haven't checked their app since it launched but if it's like the store then it's probably good too.

Went to a local convention at my town and met a super cool private collector, he was selling a fuckton of old consoles for cheap. Sega Genesis, NES, SNES, N64, etc. You even knew they worked and were in good condition because he also had a CRT set up at his booth and he would test the console before selling it to you. Got me an NES with all the wires, a controller, and a game for just 55 bucks. Then when I got back home, I realized that he had actually replaced the pins on the system too. If DKOldies just did this, they could make bank.
ope the dkoldie bot is in the replies
Even eBay used to be good for collecting. In 2015 I ordered an NES that worked with 2 regular controllers, 1 NES Max controller, and 15 games for around $150. Some of those games at my then local game store would run $30 for Mario 3 and $50 for Zelda 2... so those two games alone were like half of what I payed for someone's whole NES collection
I just ordered a Sega Saturn model 2 yellowed from Japan for $60 after seeing what they were asking on DKOldies . And guess what I’m gunna refurbish it myself because we have the avenue of RUclips to reference to do it on your own and not letting idiots like DKOldies artificially inflating the retro gaming market.
I got a Wii and 2 used games for 90 dollars at a Flea Market. Works good and the guy really cared about his hobby.
Sadly and unfortunately, DK oldies is already making bank.
On what planet is a non-CIB NES console worth $300 to begin with? That immediately has red flags and air raid sirens blaring in my head. I bought my perfectly good NES with a controller and official RF adapter for $65 Canadian from a local pawn shop. It was only somewhat dirty and the controller only required minor internal cleaning to have working fine again.
Even if they did refurbish their consoles the prices are still over priced
Had my nightmare experience with scam-oldies, they only care about getting money, the most amount out of everything they sale and take no actual care or time in the items they claim. I took the risk last year and ended up with an og Xbox controller that arrived with jacked up analog sticks from them shoving it along with 4 other games in a small jiffy mailer, and the response from their customer service was a fucking joke and the whole reason I counted my looses and cut my ties with them. Avoid dkoldies at all cost, there are private sellers that put more time in effort into cleaning and making sure the item works and they sell for way less than dkoldies.
Any places you would recommend?

You're wrong about NES screws. Every Toaster NES I've ever worked on used phillips head screws. I believe the top loader is the first system to use the gamebit style security screws.
The cart not springing back up is normal if you overtighten the screws on the cart slot, it behaves that way with OEM screws. That's totally on you for how you reassembled the console.
Dkoldies is a rip off don't get me wrong, just pointing out where you're incorrect.

Not that this changes anything about the conclusion, but the reason why the cartridge tray didn't stay down properly is actually likely due to the fact it wasn't properly slotted underneath the board. Until about 10 years ago I used to buy and sell alot of (NES) consoles/games and I have opened alot of NES consoles. All of them had the philips screws to open them.
I got a GBA from them and it has no issues and was sent in immaculate condition but this is unacceptable for what they charge and THEY CHARGE A TON!
The NES used JIS screws "Japanese Industry Standard" they look like Philips screws but they are slightly deeper to the point. Only the cartridges used the "Game Bit" screws. It wasn't until the SNES that they started using those on the consoles as well.
I was wondering if someone else was gonna catch that. I always used a Phillips head to unscrew a nes and change the connector and clean them. I have had the problem rich did in the video before, but it was from over-tightening screws.
Most definitely, the oem screws are basically philips, and the tray NEVER went all the way to the top. I refurbish at least one or two NES consoles every week. I only charge $165 with one game, two controllers, oem power supply, and mario. RICH those arent DK screws
My Yamaha motorcycle has JIS screws. I couldn’t figure out why I had trouble taking the Phillip screws out. Last year I looked it up and found this out.
@@Skilful_basics8 probably why I striped the screw on an old Yamaha scooter about 10 years ago😂
Early cartridges didn't use the Security Screws either; they had what was effectively a glorified flathead screw (my Gyromite copy is like this)
They need to hire Odd Tinkering to refurbish these consoles
The NES came with Phillip's head screws
You might be thinking of the SNES, they used "special" screws. The NES came from the factory with phillips head screws.
“Let me get some alcohol” I knew what he meant but, that line is a hilarious double.
Dkoldies should have been called out a long time ago for those outrageous prices
I found out about this company recently and I can't believe they're trying to scam people with overly priced old consoles, as if the price of old school consoles and videogames wasn't through the roof already most of the time.
So much for refurbished they literally just buy them clean them up and then claim that as being refurbished you're better off just buying one on eBay from a seller who has a good rating LMAO
Honestly not surprised. Their whole business set up is just shady and ridiculously overpriced.
I can already imagine the face of the editor when you bought a NES from DKScammers instead of getting a new camera 😂
I am in NO WAY trying to defend these clowns, but, as an 8-9 year old who took his NES apart to try to fix the blinking light problem, I can tell you that at least very early NES consoles did indeed have phillips screws in them. The system being referenced was one of the original sets that came with R.O.B., and I got it new in box. (I wish I still had the damned thing)
ALL Nes systems came with phillips screws.
Seeing Rich super pissed off gives me life 💀💀
Yeah I went to gametrade which is a local game shop in Green Bay. They did a good job with my PS1. It was 50 bucks and it was prestine. I brought 7 games as well. It was 150 dollars. Its sad that Dkoldies is price gouging just to price gouge
Gametrade is legit. Go Greg
This is one of reasons why retro gaming has gone down hill. Stuff like this company makes me sick.
I picked up a NES literally off the street for nothing. I've fixed it up and it's working fine. I have extra controllers I've taken apart and cleaned up along with a retrobright treatment. Not sure what DKOldies's excuse on what their $300 thing is worse than something I picked up from a curb.
Man, i felt everything in this video. I laughed so hard. Dkoldies are total tools. I hate seeing them everywhere. I felt this whole video in my soul.
When I found DK I was happy to see all that they had to offer even watched a ton of their videos and seen how their business works but once I started Ordering I realized their services aren’t worth it imo. They promote having a team of people cleaning their products but I got a WiiMote from them that was covered in hand sweat dirt and grease. I got a copy of SSB Melee that had someone’s name written on it in permanent marker which can easily be removed but just like the wiimote I shouldn’t of had to been the one to clean it…their prices are nuts also. I find everything I want from DK on eBay in BETTER conditions for waaaay cheaper. I’m never using DK again. Off topic but that Joey guy looks like a Fallout 3 NPC in real life 🤣
Don't forget that Ebay has a great return policy, so it quite literally outmatches Dk in every way
Luckily I rely on my semi-local game stores (I have to drive 30 minutes out in either direction but 100% more worth it. AND one of them has a loyatly program 10% off used games and accessories)
I like the way they run things but the prices is why I emulate my games. ;- )
I knew DKOldies was suspicious in the first place, like they trying to sell me 75 dollars for sonic adventure 2 battle for GameCube, and it only has the disc. Not the manual, not the cover, the disc. I can find one with the cover, disc, and manual, in great condition for 35 dollars at my local game store. They are greedy istg
Honestly, over the years my best experiences was buying from sellers with good feedback that have been in forum communities like Atariage, bought many things always arrived timely in great condition, cleaned and packaged with care because it's from like minded collectors and gamers and I have many purchases form consoles to computers to games and accessories and it's always been a pleasure. In fact I have picked up some real bargains from retro gaming forums.
ohh could you tell me where you get them? glad people are being reasonable and Taking care of their games 😌
Hope you can get a refund Rich. Always had a bad feeling about DKoldies cause of their prices.
They have a year warranty lol
@@spectrexr1 Rich removed that sticker, I believe that voids the warranty...
@@42Mrgreenman lol then he shouldn't have done that. It's funny I keep seeing these dk oldies is a scam videos all of a sudden and now people ordering stuff and picking it apart saying they overpriced. And they scamming. Dk oldies is over priced. But they been around for like 18 years. Why now people worried about they high prices.
@@spectrexr1 Those stickers are actually illegal BTW.
@@astral_plane_crash how so
I paid $100 for mine from a Game Exchange. Got all original equipment also. Put Blaster Master and Robocop in and both booted up instantly.
Probably the BEST video Rich has made. It's not about hating on a company but about calling out BS that needs to be called out
Really hope DKOldies goes out of business this year. Boggles my mind how people fall for their scam in the first place. Thanks Rich for the review & teardown!
They would just change their name n have different people be on camera so it goes unnoticed. Their way too greedy
@@levitroyer4605 fair point... hopefully with media coverage like this though, people will start to wake up to their terrible business practices.
I agree dk oldie is scam they rip of their scammer and follwer and subcriber
the sad thing is that they wont.
You have this disgustingly gullible, dumbed down tik tok culture who sees anything on tik tok and takes it as truth without any second thoughts of their own.
So they will happily buy from them and keep DK Scammies in business..
Tik tok is such a cancer of society, and I truly think it is a catalyst to another downfall in human civilization
@@hinglemccringleberry9389 I hope dk oldies get ip ban
The humor you have developed while also being serious is amazing. Keep up the good work!
ope the dkoldie bot is in the replies
@@robsholeNot good!!
I paid £75 for a discounted NES from a cex store, the only issue is the little crack on the corner hence why it's discounted but I ain't massively bothered as im happy it isn't yellowed
