Their mom probably just feels pushed aside and like her husband spends a lot of time thinking about his deceased wife to the point where he puts his current wife on the back burner on a regular basis. He most likely started dating too soon and never properly mourned his wife’s death, so it is still a huge burden on him today.

I will teach my child to cook but not to be burdened and do everything around the house. The 10 year old should only be doing chores like making their own bed, helping to set the table and helping to clean the dishes. Let that child be a child. The husband is at home and capable of sorting things out. Meal prep if needed. Currently on maternity leave however before that I used to work full day and my husband was at home looking after our little kids and doing school drop off. I never once cooked, cleaned or did anything the five days a week but picked up the slack on weekend. He works 5 days a week but after only when I come back as he is self employed

I don’t see anything wrong with a 10 year old helping around the house. It’s not about domesticating the child, but teaching children to be responsible... boys and girls alike. My brother grew up not doing anything, and it shows in his adulthood that he doesn’t take responsibility for cleaning up after himself, or doing his laundry. There is nothing wrong with children helping with chores. It trains them to be responsible. I think the grandmother didn’t communicate her advice properly. She probably meant that the girl being the older child should help with house chores.

I don’t see anything wrong with a 10 year old helping around the house. It’s not about domesticating the child, but teaching children to be responsible... boys and girls alike. My brother grew up not doing anything, and it shows in his adulthood that he doesn’t take responsibility for cleaning up after himself, or doing his laundry. There is nothing wrong with children helping with chores. It trains them to be responsible. I think the grandmother didn’t communicate her advice properly. She probably meant that the girl being the older child should help with house chores.

I must be a weird parent because I have two boys and I never chose their toys for them. They have always told me what they liked. I would then relay it to my family members. They both had kitchens because they both went through the I wanna cook for you mommy phase lol. They have played with dolls because they needed girls for their games. When my boys leave my house they will know how to cook, clean and do laundry, just like their sisters. I told my boys when they grow up and get married, if their wives are at work and they are at home the house should be cleaned and dinner should be made. It's a team effort.

I don’t like when parents have their kids as mades. When parents MAKE the kids do chores like wash the dishes,cooking,& cleaning the house while the parents just work.
