- A total solar eclipse is one of nature’s grandest spectacles. It happens when the moon slides in front of the sun, blotting out the face of the sun for a few brief minutes. Texas has experienced many partial solar eclipses, but a total eclipse is a rare sight for the Lone Star State. This means Austin and other parts of Texas are preparing to cash in on this celestial phenomenon.
