Because this is the first time a total eclipse has happened in an area of Texas for anyone who's alive today and maybe another century before the next one. The last was in 1878 and 1900.
If anything does happen it will be because of the controllers causing an emp or black outs and using the eclipse as an excuse it will not be because of the eclipse or the sun wake up people. I remember when I was a little girl we would be inside our classrooms during solar eclipses, and it would get dark for just a bit outside, but nobody made a big deal about it in the past like they do now. I just find everyone's reaction to this solar eclipse very weird.

My understanding is there's a lot of small towns and communities in the totality path. If say 5x as many people as usual come to the area then most resources will be depleted. So it's not the country running out of fuel it would be a small town running out of fuel with no truck on the way for a certain period of time

I can't help it but I think it is very strange that an emergency has been called for an eclipse that will last for about 2 minutes. I've seen eclipses before and while they are awesome, I've never heard of a state of emergency being called. If people run out of things they just travel outward, until they find what they want. Normally they book their lodging requirements in advance. This would be like calling an emergency everytime there is a snow storm before it even arrives or for every rush hour traffic jam in a major city. New York and other cities overwhelmed with people and I'm sure their resources are stretched to the max, but no emergency is called there, and none is called at the southern border where it is really needed. The reason for the emergency is because the total solar eclipse will only be visible in very specific parts of the U.S. including a small area of Texas. I’m assuming he is talking about those areas. A lot of tourists are going to come into these areas to watch it and will take up a lot of resources. I think this video intentionally left out this context to scare people.

I don’t think it’s an overreaction because there are going to be plenty of people coming in to this small town taking up hotel rooms, packing restaurants and buying up food and gas. I can't help it but I think it is very strange that an emergency has been called for an eclipse that will last for about 2 minutes. I've seen eclipses before and while they are awesome, I've never heard of a state of emergency being called. If people run out of things they just travel outward, until they find what they want. Normally they book their lodging requirements in advance. This would be like calling an emergency everytime there is a snow storm before it even arrives or for every rush hour traffic jam in a major city. New York and other cities overwhelmed with people and I'm sure their resources are stretched to the max, but no emergency is called there, and none is called at the southern border where it is really needed.
