    I've been getting back into the SEGA Genesis for the last year and a half, basically since I found out that my SEGA Genesis and games from the 90s were hiding in my parents' garage attic. I've been exploring the library, especially games I missed as a kid. Eventually I want to get an Everdrive for either Genesis or SNES, but the big thing I want to be able to do is play WWF WrestleFest on original hardware. I know, it was an arcade game, but what I mean is to be able to play it on the hardware I owned from that era...to play it on my own CRT at home, with a Genesis controller (SNES would be fine, too). Have the Genesis or SNES Everdrives advanced enough yet to be able to do that? I imagine the Genesis would have the color limitation problem to tackle, and the SNES would struggle with sprite counts--unless something inside the Everdrive was assisting, and making up the difference (the same way games like Virtua Racing or Castlevania 3 had their own accessory chips). Once I can play my 1989-1992 arcade favorites on a SNES or Genesis, I'll consider myself set for life. It may sound arbitrary or odd, but that's the "ultimate" in my mind.

    Just got the Mega Everdrive Pro amidst the shortage a few weeks ago (first time owning a genesis as well). Chunked out for a 512gb micro card. So much to put on this cart, master system library, genesis library, sega cd, etc... and now nes, now that it has a core. This has been my most versatile cart and interesting to explore (since I haven't experienced most genesis games). I also have FXPak Pro, N8 Pro, Everdrive 64, and now need the Everdrive GBA mini for when my analogue pocket comes in later this year.

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 2 года назад +2

      It already had the NES core, it's just been improved.
      It also has the SVP and YM2413 cores for Virtua Racing and Master System FM sound (respectively) although they were brought to the X7 as well.
      If you like, check out MSU-MD and/or MD+ CD-quality music-patched Genesis games, as well as MegaColor video (which can play anything from short clips to feature-length movies as long as you split them into 45-minute parts).
      Finally, if it's your thing, check out MegaDoom, a port of Doom for the Mega Everdrive Pro's FPGA that displays its graphics as streamed MegaColor video.
      And of course, as part of loading standard Genesis games, you can run hacks and homebrew if you want.

    • @DanielBrown-nb9zz

      To expand on this, wouldn't it be safe to say some of the developers of rom- hacks or TCmods put as much or maybe even more heart into their projects? What I'm still confused about is how Sega CD works without a physical Sega CD console and it's still not considered emulation. I've only looked a little into FPGA. So there is actually some Sega CD hardware built-in to the Everdrive Cart?

    • @allthelonely4287
      @allthelonely4287 2 года назад +6

      From what I understand, the FPGA is designed to reprogram itself on the fly to be whatever it needs to be. The FPGA chip itself becomes a clone of the Sega CD hardware in order to run Sega CD games.

    • @overnightdelivery

    • @Madlittlepixel
      @Madlittlepixel  2 года назад +8

      Yes fpga implementations are still in my opinion a form of emulation... Despite what some will say. But with it simulating the hardware by reprogramming itself to mimic it, the timing etc it can be very accurate. So with Sega CD its a really good implementation that allows those games to run pretty much perfectly like they would with an actual disc and CD addon. And the Sega CD still relies on the Genesis hardware so its not like it has to implement the entire hardware.

    • @RWL2012
      @RWL2012 2 года назад +3

      It's an (A)rray of logic (G)ates that's (F)ield-(P)rogrammable, so the chip can be programmed to function exactly like the original hardware's logic, depending on how well-written the core is (rather than software-based emulation, which runs as a translation layer on a CPU of a different architecture).
      The functionality of the FPGA Mega CD / Sega CD's CPU, RAM, graphics and sound chips in FPGA, works in conjunction with the ones in the Mega Drive / Genesis in the form of the original chips (the games use both, some to different extents than others).
      I believe the game sees both the console and add-on hardware as normal, but doesn't realise that the add-on is an FPGA computationally with a microSD interface for storage.

    • @surrealbrain4227
