Last Thanksgiving my dad accidentally chipped the edge of my otherwise perfect serving dish. He was nervous to tell me about it but when he finally did he said "maybe one day when I'm gone you'll look at that chip and think of me". We both burst into tears and now that dish is my favorite thing in my kitchen.

Love this video! My mom and I collect vintage barbies and our favorite kinds are the ones from thrift stores that are in terrible condition because we love cleaning them up and fixing their hair, finding them new clothes, etc. It also saves us so much money and we've found some really valuable dolls this way.

I love this video. I do sometimes buy items that are a bit damaged just because of the great looks of it. I also love to buy items that just speak to me and that I find out later that they are extra special and really worthy. Not that it makes a difference because I like it anyway. I also love living in the deep south of the Netherlands near to the German and Belgium border so I can visit fleamarkets in three countries. Just this morning I found a lovely set of Angels wall hanging in Germany for such a low price. And I bought a vintage easter bunny...so happy to find things I didn't even know I was looking for😉. I agree! Waste not, want not after all! I like getting stuff from the thrift store, especially vintage, since older stuff feel a LOT more sturdy than items I buy new today. Even if something's broken it still can be used, either repaired or as is! Like a chipped mug or one missing a handle works just as well for holding pens or something for example. (Had to convince a friend to not toss a brand new mug after she dropped and broke the handle off-she was just gonna toss the whole thing. Until something is literally inusuable it's better to try and find a new use!)

Another reason I like to buy imperfect/cheap pieces are that when the time comes that they are not working with my decor anymore I don't get worked up over getting the money back. • @AstorReinhardt

It depends on the item. Blow molds I'm ok with having damaged ones because they're so damn hard to find lol. I got some free ones off Facebook, including a large MCM looking star burst. The guy was going to toss them if someone didn't take them so I rescued them. The star burst needs to be restrung with lights and it's pretty flimsy...but other then that it's fine.
But stuff like glassware/Pyrex...I'm much more picky. I really REALLY hate dishwasher damage. It just gets under my skin for some reason. I also don't like chips or cracks in things. I'm after the Merry Mushroom set as well (so is everyone else in America it seems like) and TBH...I don't think I would have bought the big one with a crack like that in it. Even for as cheap as it was.
I'm also VERY picky about books and magazines. They have to be in pretty good shape...and no smells...the smell thing is hard because most of these books/magazines were stored in damp basements and such. I'm extremely sensitive to smells so I can pick up on things easily that others might not catch. I've had so many musty/moldy smelling books and magazines I've had to return...ugh. I still have some that I've sealed up in bags away from any other books...those ones I want to try to save but dealing with paper is hard.

I think dishwasher damage is just a catch all phrase in Pyrex. When I see Pyrex from the 50's with the color rubbed off I do not think "dishwasher". People didn't even have dishwashers back then. My Grandmother's red Pyrex bowl had almost no color left in it and she never had a dishwasher in her life. She scrubbed that bowl a couple times a day for decades.

Good suggestions however shipping to Canada is expensive so even a five dollar salt shaker would be $15 to $20 shipping so it is better to find one seller who will combine shipping. Some types of shipping through a broker wont let them combine purchases. So there are few bargains on line for us. Facebook market place is good but being in a small city, there is not that much cool vintage out there. And our thrift stores mark pyrex high, whether damaged or not or without a lid. If damaged, it is a bit cheaper but not cheap, if you know what I mean. So it is a long, hard search to find deals like yours. Church sales and estate sales are sometimes good although they are starting to look on line when pricing vintage stuff. Also, being in a small city, every dealer in town will be first in line at these sales. Sometimes it feels so frustrating and then a treasure falls into your lap. So you do a happy dance and forge ahead. You have amazing things and your displays are so wonderful. I am ok with flaws if for display. And as you said, no worries about mishaps. Thanks for your honest and cheery videos.

I’ve really only bought the Miss Priss Kitty on eBay otherwise I find everything in person. The merry mushroom canister was picked up an hour away from my town, I lined up that pickup with me going out of a town to that big city. Like I said in the video estate sales are difficult to buy at here but I got lucky with the damaged pumpkin. I work hard to find the great items I pick up and as someone who lives in Michigan, I’ve thrifted in Canada and had good luck over there. I always look whenever I travel or go to a different city so I encourage you to look outside your small town too!
