    I was having a really hard time transitioning from 5 to 6 and struggled even on settler difficulty. Your videos have completely turned that around for me! Thank you so much, please keep making them! One topic I'd like to see covered is the basics of settling new cities, what to watch for and avoid.

      I agree. I've been having such a hard time. I've played about 6 matches and haven't won a single one. I'm here watching these videos to see if they can help me see what I've been doing wrong.

    You should also have noted that barbs now run away if they have almost no health left and that fleeing units are very hard to run down without horses. So if you want to finish off a unit you almost need to think about blocking it with a melee units' ZOC in advance. What I don't know though is what happens to damaged barbs... do they heal next to their camp and then attack you again directly? Do they roam around aimlessly after healing, or what exactly do they do after they are healed up?
    Otherwise as always an excellent video, you're always a pleasure to listen to you filthy. You talk fast and clearly and people can even understand you on 1.5 and 2.0 video speed. Looking forward to learn from watching your Civ VI MP games.

      By the way there seems to be a way to disable the dreaded auto-unit-cycle according to a steam discussion:
      Go to mydocuments/mygames/civ6/useroptions.txt - it's about line 59: "Does the selection auto cycle to the next available unit? (0 = no, 1 = yes) AutoUnitCycle 1 (set to o)" (simply ctrl F "cycle" and change to 0 from 1.
      Can't confirm if it works yet though, Civ VI will unlock in 90 min for me acc. to steam.

      Barbs would often run away in civ 5 if they were low on HP as well. I've had a few benny hill sequences trying to chase down that last, pesky barbarian to kill it. They still do the suicide thing as well, but not as often as in civ 5.

  • @stuffystuffclub

    This must have changed since your patch - while I’ve never seen a barb scout plunder a tile, I have seen it steal my workers.

  • @PROmozgly
    @PROmozgly 7 лет назад

    BTW - currently you can attack and then promote a unit - but only under a certain curcumstance - if the unit has movement points left after attack. (light cavalry can do that as well as ranged units with the promotion that lets them shoot twice a turn)
    (Right now there is a bug when ranged units with the promotion can shoot twice even if they moved)

    informative . I came here wondering how upgrading my archer to have ZOC was a good thing, and I still would prefer something else as a last upgrade, but two potential attacks could be useful I guess. Didn't realize the thing about exp either .

    I think all 'melee' units are under the melee class of units. Anti-cavalry, etc. is just their promotion class (spearman have a different promotion tree compared to swordsman). I kinda remember the Devs saying this

    Interesting. No hard data, but I've gotten the impression that civ scouts are less squishy in Civ VI than they were in V. I've occasionally used them to initiate combat with barbs in cases where I wouldn't have before.

  • @Twinrehz
    @Twinrehz 7 лет назад

    I'd like to weigh in with my experience with barbarians in civ 6: If a barbarian boat is occupying your harbor, you cannot produce or purchase naval units. I assume the same would be true if a barbarian is occupying an encampment, but I've yet to test that. Given how those two districts work very much the same, I find it reasonable to assume this. Said boat also pillaged my harbor (and lighthouse), for seemingly no good reason, it wasn't missing HP or anything.

  • @woode1219
    @woode1219 7 лет назад +4

    One maneuver that need emphasis because it is so different from V. I call it the "sidestep". If you start in a zoc, ,you can move sidewards to another zoc hex then still attack or promote. I saw too many instances of people getting trapped by barbs in the let's plays' and losing a unit where a sidestep would probably have saved it.

  • @KungFuFishstick
    @KungFuFishstick 7 лет назад

    Holy crap. Thank you! I had no idea barbs couldn't spawn if you or a city-state had sight line on an encampment. So much info on barbs that I had no idea about.

    • @FilthyRobot
      @FilthyRobot  7 лет назад +1

      It's not sight on an encampment. It's an encampment can't spawn where your (or other civs/cs) units have sight.

    • @KungFuFishstick
      @KungFuFishstick 7 лет назад

      I thought that was what I was saying. If you have sight on an encampment then they wont be able to spawn more units on any tiles that you or a city-state have sight.

    • @FilthyRobot
      @FilthyRobot  7 лет назад +1

      Kungfu fishstick Again. No. Having sight on an encampment doesn't change anything. Having sight on a tile stops an encampment from spawning there.

    • @KungFuFishstick
      @KungFuFishstick 7 лет назад

      FilthyRobot alright. im trying to work this out. if you have sight on an encampment to where it is visible and you can see what is happening, wouldn't there also be tiles that are visible? On those tiles that are in view, an encampment cant spawn a unit?

    • @FilthyRobot
      @FilthyRobot  7 лет назад +1

      Imagine an area with no barbs and no encampments. If you don't have sight on that area, a barb encampment can spawn there and start producing barb units. If you do have sight on that area, a barb encampment cannot spawn there.
      Imagine an existing barb encampment. If you don't have sight on it, a barb unit can spawn there. If you do have sight on it, a barb unit can STILL spawn there.

    Playing as Gorgo, you get a bonus Culture reward for killing any enemy unit with your own units. For this I like to farm barbarian outposts whenever they spawn, so its best to try to preserve these outposts when possible. Your own unit strength and technology become more important for this, so should make a point to emphasize Science, as well as Culture, to gain the best military tech, and government and policies.

    I was playing today and had a Barb camp in fog of war that did NOT disappear off the fog after a city-state killed it despite what filthy says. Not sure if this is a difference between something that he noticed during his play on pre-launch build or if there is something extra that you can unlock through Civics. If anyone has clarification on this that would be great.

    jesus h christ, who on the dev team thought it was a good idea to put unit XP in the most difficult to find position and make it impossibly tiny? this game is great but still needs SO many UI and InfoAddict tweaks its crazy.

    • @3choBlast3r
      @3choBlast3r 7 лет назад +1

      Troy Reinhalter the ui is fucking crap :/ cant even forward swap cities with build menu open because they overlap. really enjoying the game but the barbarians are op early on. if you dont quickly take out the camp they fucking swarm you with horses draining your precious early resources etc also not a fam of the new road/builder system. i like that the improvements are done in a turn but constantly recruiting builders makes micro management far worse. also its nearly impossinle to find the unit list and the unit lists are crap

    Lend me your ears, FilthyRobot's youtube audience, for I will tell you what shall befall your great leader. When CIV 6 comes out I will spend an afternoon, possibly two, learning everything there is to know about the game. I will memorize every number, decimal point, strategy and idea behind CIV 6. I will harness my many, many, talents to master every detail. Then, I will challenge Filthy to a 1v1 fight to the death, where ultimately, I will vanquish him on the field of battle. Then I, and only I, will be the new smarty pants king of CIV 6 youtube. As my new followers you may worship me as you did Filthy, more though because I am definitely way more awesome. Don't try and fight it, you will learn to love me. Unguard Filthy! Prepare to cross blades!

    The new barbarian system is neat, but it is a little bit ridiculous to have so many barbarians spawning. Even if that makes sure players have a military in the early game, I'd cut the number a little. Now barbarians at least annoy you.

    • @3choBlast3r
      @3choBlast3r 7 лет назад

      VeteranVandal i completely agree.. in civ 5 the worst you had to worry about in early game was a barbarian warrior or two. Now if you dont quickly take out the camp they swarm you with three fucking horses. While you just have your starting warrior

    • @jisookim6904
      @jisookim6904 7 лет назад

      3choBlast3r I don't mind it. the best way to play seems to be scout into 3 slingers and a warrior anyway, which is enough to deal with anything. Your exploration might have to wait a bit which sucks but it's only a minor annoyance.

  • @ollydavis2495
    @ollydavis2495 7 лет назад

    I don't get the struggle against barbs, use the military policy for extra combat and simply create maybe 1 or 2 slingers and it's normally enough until you get an extra city, as long as you leave them in strong defensive positions every attack gives a major victory

      Jaquass so that the range unit has zoc(range does not have zoc before, as he stated on the first topic)

  • @electrostatic1
    @electrostatic1 7 лет назад

    Quick question: If you come under zoc of a melee that puts you next to a non zoc ranged unit at the same time, can you use your remaining movement to attack the non zoc ranged, or do you have to use it to attack an enemy who has zoc on you?

    • @rickballance
      @rickballance 7 лет назад +1

      Good question. With a ranged unit I'm pretty sure you can attack either unit after moving into a ZOC, but I'm not so sure about a melee unit. Usually the rules seems to be you can't attack if you can't move there, so I'd be surprised if you could attack. Then again if couldn't it might feel incongruent to players, so maybe there is n exception. I'll try it out as soon as I get the opportunity.

    • @FilthyRobot

      It's a different type of limit. Units get their first level up very quickly versus barbs, afterwards they still get experience versus barbs but it is massively reduced. So you could get all your levels from barbs, it would just takes a ton of combats.

      love ur videos! especially these concise/brief ones, giving general ideas. Any chance you can upload more? I think many people like these more than 4-5 hrs long gameplay...
      for example if you could talk about the strength and defense bonuses, how they work so people could calculate the chances before actual combat, or maybe just general mid game/late game strategies (how to go for cultural or science victory, how to boost science apart from building campuses universities and libraries, etc), it would be really great.
