  • I love exercising, but as a doctor, I often think 'what is the healthiest way to workout?'. Does this question even make sense...? And if so, what's the answer?

Great content, Andrew. I'm 70 and still swimming, hiking and walking. It works!

Love it! I’m hoping to still be half as active as you are when I’m your age 🙌🏼

What I outline is the end goal. Assess your current fitness level and progress slowly and safely toward what I recommend. Move daily. Don't forget warm-up, mobility, and flexibility work. Do a high intensity circuit workout, followed by however many low intensity days it takes to recover. Then go again.

Great content as per! People often forget the primary purpose of exercising and it’s effects on mind and body. I work out because it’s good for mental health and if I look good on top of it, that’s a bonus!

Hello! Great video, way super informative. Thank you!
I have a question for you as a doctor. There are many studies and articles that say, that long-distance running can decrease testosterone level, however HIIT workouts or sprints can increase it. So, should I stop running (long-distance) because of this moment? I love distance running and now I try to combine it with sprints, but I also don't want to have lower testosterone. So, what should I do? I also do strength training.
    Thanks again for your vid

Used to rly like lifting, but now I think the ideal “split” would be like 40/60 favoring endurance. Strength has benefits on mortality up to like 2 hrs weekly, but cardio can give better health outcomes up to like 10 hours per week

Rn I’m doing 2 lifts and 4 endurance sessions weekly

Pretty much what I’m doing at the moment, sounds like a good balance 👍🏼

Good food for thought there. I just started getting into shape and fitness only 2 years ago at 39 years of age. You could call at my “midlife crisis”. I initially had goals of just getting into shape and losing weight, then it became more of an obsession over trying to get bigger in muscle, and recently getting into running. However all of this has become quite hindered this year at 41 when I’ve been played with injuries that have affected both my workouts and my running. Do you think that it is unrealistic for me (who’s only been doing this for 2 years with barely any previous history of working out) to have the same fitness goals as a 20 year old or do you think it’s unrealistic for a 41 year old?

To be honest I think it’s totally reasonable to have similar goals. Although a 20 year old might have a higher theoretical peak in terms of performance than a 41 year old - most never get anywhere near that. So if your goals are to gain muscle, get fitter and stronger, feel better - still makes complete sense as a 41 year old. You might need to be slower with how quickly you build training volume and take recovery more seriously though. Would advise checking out Mark Lewis’s channel if you haven’t already. Normal guy who reached the best shape of his life at 49/50 👍🏼

Thanks! My own training plan, nothing official to be honest - will talk about it in more detail with my vid covering the attempt in a couple weeks 👍🏼
