For "Frieren" specifically, watching the first two episodes is an excellent way to determine whether the show is for you or not. The entire creator-audience-contract is layed out and sealed by the end of episode 2. Anyone who says that you have to continue watching "because it get's good by episode 10" is an idiot who didn't actually enjoy the show and is only trying to cope with their own buyer's remorse by unloading it onto other people too.
The show is good, excellent even, but also pretty niche. People feel pressured into praising it and gaslight themselves into liking it as if it was some weird autheur film recommended by Tarantino.
I watched your last one and when you said it’s got a lot of positives but it wasn’t for you, I thought to myself “Sweet, this guy knows himself and decided to not waste his time on 26 more episodes”.
I didn’t comment because I got busy with work.

Watched it recently and I think its one of the best shows I watched. The first eps were hard to get into but around starkk introduction (ep 6-7) I really started loving it. But getting mad at your opinion is dumb asf tho, them folks need help😭😭

To everyone here I hope that you aren’t like these people who start getting angry at people for having different opinions on an animated Japanese cartoon or book because at the end of the day, it really isn’t that deep and we all like what we like 👍🏾 seriously don’t feel like just because someone mentions a fanbase, work, or anything they are trying to specifically personally attack you because they may not like, or just feel indifferent towards something. We can all be better and just agree to disagree and remember that we all have different opinions and that’s okay. Also side note : don’t make fun of people because they don’t like what you like(hint they will just not like it more)

I watched Frieren, I liked it, I thought it was nice and I look forward to more. But it certainly isn't by far the best thing I ever watched, and I can see how plenty of people just wouldn't care for it.

I feel the same as you. Believe me, you're not missing out here. It's very clear, that Frieren doesn't contain the elements, that you are looking for in a story. It is a VERY BORING story, which a bunch of people have convinced themselves, that it is "oh-so-deep". It isn't. It's just a cookie-cutter fantasy world with a bunch of generic fights thrown in and a lot of slice-of-life, that has not narrative purpose. The fights have no tension, because you can tell 100% of the time, who's going to win. And the """deep""" premise of the story gets dropped after the first 5 episodes, lol.

Bruh, I know it’s too late and you didn’t enjoy the first two episodes. But a very good side story has already been set up which is paid off in the 10th episode. You don’t need to watch that far. Just watch the 3rd episode because it shows a very unique take on fantasy magic and potential for humanity in that world. I won’t hype it too much, but that’s what hooked me. And by the fourth episode there is a very good direction for the show. Watch it if you want to, when you want to.
Let it be. I don't agree with how fans tend to push their favorite show on people who tried it and didn't enjoy it. Frieren has a different pacing and storytelling that may put off a lot people who are used of stories with more nervous pacing and more straightforward/concrete conflicts and objectives. And not everyone want to bother watching through 7 episodes to have the first set of antagonists to appear.
No media can appeal to everyone at the same time. Frieren is no exception. It's not the end of the world.

However to people who criticize a show, they better have prepare valid criticism and review to support their takes (and claiming that X is boring, plain, has no personality is not a valid criticism. Explaining why X is boring, plain, has no personality is already a better starting point).
There is a difference between, "Okay, Frieren message about the value of time and relashionship is good and all, but that's not something that can keep my attention in the long run" after 4 episodes and "Frieren is mid and boring" even after watching the whole 28 episodes, see?
The number of episodes one watch doesn't necessarily tell if they understood the series or not. Sometimes you can just watch one episode and have a rough idea of what will happens during the next 12 episodes and sometimes you can watch the full series and still fail to "get it".
Edit: Every community has it toxic part, it's nothing new. The bigger is a community the louder it is. I think I don't need to remind you that the JJK fandom is well known for being one of the most toxic one, partly due to its sheer size.

I completely agree with your take, not of the anime itself but of that type of response the community gave u. Hate to see it. Although a simple and non toxic counter argument is that Frieren wans't aired like a normal anime, it had a 4 episode premiere, essentially is movie length premiere that was divided into 4 episodes. I understand not liking it but I also don't think is a fair judgment if you didn't watch until episode 4 because that was the end of the pilot.
Also, I'm very accustomed to the 3 episodes rule in anime but is my first time hearing of a 2 episodes rule. Whatever works for u I guess.

I think it's worth noting: A lot of the comments weren't just trying to shit talk you, they were trying to have an interesting conversation. Personally, I'm fine that you don't like the show, but I think there's a really fascinating conversation to have about why you don't like it vs why someone else might.
It might be worth watching the whole series, then FINDING someone to interview/talk to about why they like it and why you didn't like it.
