I wonder what percentage of the people who say they don’t like Frieren are just saying it because they are trying to go against the grain I don’t understand how people can watch it and think that it’s not a masterpiece.
I couldn't care less about the N°1 spot or rankings, but i didn't like it really, but also didn't hate it. Maybe it was the fact that i was overhyped but i felt the characters (except frieren) very one dimensional and it frustrated me a little. Maybe because they didn't felt like real people at all, but like an anime archetype and stayed like that (the white haired guy that was a commander at war was an exception too)
It's because they can't grasp the story. The vast majority of complaints I read, were about things the anime "Didn't do" according to them... but when you watched, and paid attention to, the anime; these things are done a hundred times over. Legitimately saw some brainiacs going "THERE'S NO CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!!", like what? The entire show is about the progressive character development of it's cast. Hell, Denken from the first exam versus Denken from the third exam are completely different people; it's the difference between surface level minor antagonist to well developed sidekick.
There's nothing wrong with them not liking it. It's saying it's bad BECAUSE they don't like it that's the problem. For instance, here you will find people who say it's because because it has no character development. That's literally denying facts about the anime to justify a personal dislike, and that's at best stupid, at worst disingenuous. Likewise, saying it's great because one DOES like it is equally bad and useless.
Frieren was a stumble of a find that I wasn’t even looking for at the time and knew nothing about it but is the only series I’ve found that make me want all the seasons at once so I can just watch over and over again I hope this goes on for 10 seasons and more and I hope each season has 28+ episodes It is such a breath of fresh air

@@exister4959 There's definitely a case to be made that frieren is overrated, for sure. It's why I think that MAL probably isn't the best metric to judge an anime by. @@durphin good point, I always loved fmab but I can also see how the postion it held could lead to people saying its overrated as well. Thanks for being one of the only people to not go full reddit NPC on me for having an opinion.
What I love about Frieren's soundtrack is how it greatly resembles the Witcher 3 soundstrack (both background and fight OSTs), which makes sense, because it's a very similar setting (medieval europe with magic duh), but is just way more cheerful and easygoing, but even more melancholic whenever it needs to be. Overall an upgrade from what I previosuly thought was a perfect soundtrack for any fantasy miedieval setting. Sets the tone perfectly every single time, to the point that it becomes just an inherent part of the scene.
Frieren was a return to those times when a guy saw the Record of Lodoss War OVAs for the first time. More fitting to that is the fact that both Lodoss War OVAs and Frieren were animated by Madhouse, so you can say that it's not the first time they made unforgettable elven characters. Who could forget the Deedlit/Pirotess rivalry? So yeah, chalk up a few more memorable elves for Madhouse

As a Maya incarnated in a humanoid body, I've always wondered if Gandalf pooped and peed... I suppose so, as he did eat and could eat a lot! But maybe his Mayan essence just turned all the food into energy for his magic, who knows? And those are the questions I ponder while reading/watching high fantasy...
Was wondering if you can or have checked out Far away Paladin, the other show in recent times that evoked high fantasy vibes so strongly, even more so than Frieren in my humble opinion
I have seen it! I read about the first 40 or so chapters of the manga - I haven't seen the anime yet but It is on my PTW. I Was loving the story for the first three volumes about up until Will entered the beast woods. I didn't read past that tho, so maybe i should start reading again!
I liked it very much, not nearly as much as Frieren, but for different reasons. I agree with you, because Frieren is less about high fantasy adventures and more about character growth. I mean, it's hard to get high fantasy down pat when your title character is more or less an atheist and we in fact don't know if Frieren's world has gods. There goes one of the very first basic elements of high fantasy out the window.
If Mal was legit Legend of the Galactic Heroes would be nr1. 99% of ppl who don't like it are people who never read books, children or they haven't finished it. What they don't get is lotgh is 10 books. The beggining, buildup, climax and epilogue are all happeing in that order not in single seasons but across the 110 eps in total. So it is essential not to drop it to get it.
I wish shows didnt put characters names in the title. It makes watching their fights feel less dangerous. We know Naruto won't die because the show is called Naruto. Now Frierens fights will be the same.
Its not #1 because of what it does well, but rather what it doesn't do wrong. FMAB has an excessive amount of annoying yelling characters. Frieren doesn't, so it wins. Hopefully future studios take note and realize not everyone watching is a little boy with a 5 second attention span.
@@Ghorda9 it does many things right but one thing in particular sets it apart from the others: intelligent omission. if it had included one single character that was too loud and tropish, it would barely be top 10. that's what separates it from FMA and Gintama and almost everything else.
