Have probably already commented, but am enjoying the Cars again tonite. Ben has been gone 21 years, but you forget this when he is singing. It totally breaks my heart. Was at his burial site 3 times this year and am already planning a trip in January. This is a 3 day minimum trip for me. Aa I have said before, it is hard to believe that Benjamin is resting in such a humble place. No giant headstone or anything elaborate. Just a small country cemetary. Take the trip; it is worth it.

@@wickedhouston5538 I think, not positive, that he wrote most of the hits for The Cars. He probably didn't write all their songs though, otherwise no lyrical input from the other musicians. And the other musicians likely largely created their parts for their instrument.

They wouldn't have been the Cars if Ben, who could sing pretty much anything and play anything, hadn't been by Ric's side, through thick and thin, moving from city to city together, for ten years before they finally had a hit. They wouldn't have been The Cars without Elliot Easton coming up with those incredible solos. They wouldn't have been The Cars if David Robinson hadn't come up with the name, and come up with a "look" to unify their appearance and give them a certain aesthetic. And even Ric said that Greg Hawkes made the Cars sound like the Cars. No doubt Ric wrote the songs and without the songs they wouldn't have been The Cars, but there is more to being a band than just the songs.
The Cars are definitely a Hall of Fame band! Musically there were the best, and Ben Orr's vocals are amazing. He had one of those voices that sounded perfect live!
Thank you, he did. There are great nuances to his voice, he worked HARD at perfecting his vocals, I'm sure of it. He couldn't sing that astonishingly well, without putting thought and rehearse, rehearse, rehearse into it!

I remember back then Ben Orr being one of the first bassists to play a Steinberger bass (I wanted that bass so bad, it was so cool looking, but I couldn't afford one) as seen in this live performance. Saw them live at the old Met Center in Bloomington, MN in February '82 (Nick Lowe was the opening act). I had really good seats close up and had a really good view of Ben and his Steinberger.
Man, did these guys have it figured out or what! Was lucky enough to see them in concert a couple of times, their live sound was better than any band I've seen before or since. Miss you, Ben!

Long term smoking heavily is a *High Risk* factor. Benjamin Orr was practically a chain smoker when not performing. He began smoking as a teenager.
The Cars were one of the greatest live bands of all time, I hated when some other bands would go on tour after the release of a new album and it's a shit show with the tempo to fast or slow, a lot of added b.s , singing songs if different key and just not sounding all that great, today we can thank Autotune and all sorts of technology to make singers sound great live but back then you had to have real talent to kick out a album and then go on tour and hit every note perfectly like The Cars did unlike other bands of the time relied on the studio sound boards to clean up their songs and when I went to see them live I was disappointed but never with The Cars, they always sounded great because the each had loads of talent and then some Ben and Ric 🙏 thanks for taking me back to my teenage years and making me smile when I was in love and making me smile when my heart was broken, listening to they're music can take me back in time and feel the way I did so many years ago ✌🏼

He was Ray, I can attest to that, it was BEN who owned the stage, when they played live. He held the group together, vocals, bass, working a wah-wah pedal, putting himself RIGHT into the crowd. These videos really don't do justice to the power of their live work.

I grew up listening to The Cars and loved their music. It wasn't until recent that I watched them play on RUclips, so I never knew what they looked like on stage. Man, that Benjamin Orr was an awesome performer! He draws you in with his good looks, charm and awesome vocals. I like his bass playing as well. The band was great as a whole. They worked well together.
I love watching them working as a team, having fun, enjoying themselves. This is when they were at their best. I never got to go to any of their concerts, and I am absolutely thankful for You Tube!

I can't describe how Benjamin Orr BEAMED himself into the audience, they were very tight, but not what you'd call interacting with the audience at all....except Ben. They sounded so daring and innovative, looked different than any musician I'd seen on tour before. They had a huge impact on music. Sadly will miss Ben and Ric.
I don't know if I'm explaining it well. He didn't beam SEX at the audience, he beamed LOVE at them. You could see he was enjoying every minute with his astonishing musicianship. He obviously loved it that the audience was completely with him.

I was in high school when their first album came out . I remember cruising around in the Chevy, playing it on 8 track. Yes on 8 track, that's how old I am . Well anyway me and my friends couldn't get enough of the band . Every song was so good . I have to say moving in stereo became my favorite song . I just loved how it went right into all mixed up . Great memories , great friends. And great keg parties 🍺.
That was my introduction to the Cars, on 8-track. Back in 1979, when I was 5, my mom bought an 8-track stereo system from Sears, along with two 8-tracks, 'The Cars' and 'Candy-O'. I listened to both albums over and over. And whenever I hear 'Let's Go', it's like I'm transported back to that time. I even remember the smell of the 8-tracks.

the cars really were masters of the 3 minute pop/rock song. The writting and arranging were always top notch. I always appreciated their skill.

I was in high school when their first album came out . I remember cruising around in the Chevy, playing it on 8 track. Yes on 8 track, that's how old I am . Well anyway me and my friends couldn't get enough of the band . Every song was so good . I have to say moving in stereo became my favorite song . I just loved how it went right into all mixed up . Great memories , great friends. And great keg parties 🍺.

That was my introduction to the Cars, on 8-track. Back in 1979, when I was 5, my mom bought an 8-track stereo system from Sears, along with two 8-tracks, 'The Cars' and 'Candy-O'. I listened to both albums over and over. And whenever I hear 'Let's Go', it's like I'm transported back to that time. I even remember the smell of the 8-tracks.
