I’m still listening to their music here in 2024. I’ve got to say that Benjamin Orr is one of my favorite singers and the way he looks when he’s singing is WOW. The way he does his mouth and his eyes are so sultry. He’s so missed even today. R.I.P. Benjamin .
@@glenbeck5602 Many band back then had more than one lead singer. Styx is one of them. They had Dennis De young Tommy Shaw and James Young The Eagles, all members sang lead on different songs Fleetwood Mac had Stevie , Christie McVie and Lindsay Buckingham
I've watched all the videos with Benjamin Orr, and seen all the pics, but I'm convinced he must be an apparition. No human being can look that good and be that talented, all in one package. He can't be real!
the eyes, the chiseled jawline, the voice, the sex appeal dear God what a beautiful and talented man he was! Can't believe he's been gone almost 21 years😢
C’mon. Ben was great. All of them were. But Ric was the leader. Elliot was and is one of the greatest lead break and fill composers since Scotty Moore and James Burton invented the position. . Check out Rick Beato’s interview of Nuno Bettencourt, who praises Elliot’s licks to high heaven. Nuno’s top 3 players are Easton, SRV, and numero uno EVH, btw.
This group, The Cars, were better than what the critics offered them. They had a style all their own, and still unique unto this very day. And the lead guitarist, Eliot Easton, could put more character into a solo than anyone else. I just think the media gave scant recognition to their talent.
I remember when this song arrived at my college dorm in 1978. It was playing EVERYWHERE. This performance is super tight. Everyone is completely on his game and Ben is over the top. I'm amazed how well they were able to take their brilliant studio productions to the stage without missing a lick. What a great, great band!

In the dorms myself back in '79 my friend...totally agree. We all have a soft spot for music we grew up with, but the mid-70's to early 80's was a particularly good era by any measure.
I've always said Greg Hawkes gave The Cars their sound. The first time I heard It's All I Can Do and Just What I Needed his sound is what made me a fan. I had never heard a keyboard sound like that before.
I saw them perform in ‘79, me~all my friends had their 1st two albums on heavy rotation at parties. They were ‘New Wave’ and were Never Ever labeled {misunderstood}! If anything, they were totally fantastic and so different sounding, we embraced them!!
Benjamin is a legend for sure! hell all of the band remember growing up on these guys they make my top 10 bands of all time and can't live without there music
The definition of rock n roll in my opinion. Released during the disco era, holds up 40 years later. Just an amazing performance of a fantastic song. RIP Ben ❤️❤️
There was a lot of different music happening around the world in different styles that was popular. Jazz blues, soul country, fusion, new wave…etc. Not to mention Kate Bush. Depends where you’re standing.
Not many cooler cats than Elliot Easton. His solos are melodic and in the pocket. Fortunate to see The Cars in the late 70's. Truly a great band. Glad to see them in the RRHOF. RIP Ric and Benjamin.
My wife said that Orr made "her teeth sweat", and I asked her "does he make your liver quiver?" We both laughed our a$$es off. Anyway, as a guy, I do have to admit he was a fine damn handsome man!
Nah, it's just that most people don't know who he is. But, those that do, put him up there as a musician's musician. Different than the cookie cutter copy-cats.
This song has been my weakness, my addiction for 40 years. And wow this video, I melt when Ben Orr is up on the mic. What a beautiful man. A total shame he was taken away…
From the very instantaneous moment I heared "Candy O" I was hooked on The Cars music. One of my most favorite bands of all time, to this day I listen to them weekly. Such a beautiful face and heavenly voice. I don't know what he was like in his personal life nor never met the man and nothing but good things have been said about him. Didn't know such a sweet soul and creature could exist. I could have stared into those eyes, kissed those lips and wrapped my arms around him forever. So sad he's gone. I think one of the most underrated aspects of the band was the guitar player. He provided some of the most memorable guitar licks for those who grew up in the 70's and 80's. Hard to believe Ben was in his 30’s in the band’s golden age. He definitely could’ve passed for early 20’s. It’s crazy how late they achieved fame. Especially since Ric is like 36 in this performance, I think. Ben and Ric persevered for a long time because they believed in themselves as musicians until they finally found the right band with great musicians. Ric really put in the time and effort to become an intricate and unique songwriter and same with Ben, who had a lot of time to perfect one of the greatest rock voices of all time. Not to mention playing great basslines while singing that well is incredibly hard. They will always be one of the greatest bands of all time. Each member was incredibly talented and in such different ways. You really can’t find a lot of bands that are this balanced while also having such variety. Despite the fact that they have kind of a “nerdy” aesthetic to them while also being so cool. They had such mystique and an elegant presence while also coming across as very casual and authentic.

I've always thought Benjamin was kind of the male version of Susana Hoffs lol! R.I.P.
Sad part is that some people think that the only lead singer for The Cars is Rick. Ben's voice is much better and just as iconic.
only non musicians
Rick sang most of the songs, Ben sang the biggest hits!
