This song is hauntingly beautiful, and Elliot Easton was the bands secret weapon, a 4 yr Berklee (same school I attended) grad who truly can play guitar. R.I.P Ric and Ben, ty for giving us such great music. 👍
It was a great time in life if you were a young adult finishing high school when their first album came out. I remember going to these late night beach parties with the Cars blasting from our stereos as we drank cold beer around a huge bonfire.
I was just a young freshman in HS 1978 and we went to our friends apartment who lived by himself ( no parents) Got really stoned and he played the cars album... Needless to say, I was blown away!!! Loved them since! Thank you boy's for making the 1980's so so much better!!
I saw these gents live at the Rosemont Horizon stadium in Illinois in high school in '83 or '84. I need to look back and savor my saved ticket. Back then, they were so on fire. Everything they played was nostalgia in the making.
Yes, I wish I had seen The Cars live as I was quite the fan. Still am. I did, however, see Duran Duran at the Rosemont Horizon in April of 1984. Great concert.
I'm so happy after all these years that they will finally get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A long overdue recognition that is all the more sad because Ben isn't here to receive it, in his hometown Cleveland. We'll all be celebrating with Ric, Elliot, Greg, Dave and Ben the greatness that was and is THE CARS!!!
Considering the 80-81 season might be the most forgettable season (the first post Lorne Michaels season, with Gilbert Gottfried and Charles Rocket part of the cast), Fridays actually had a better show for a time. Then NBC realized what Eddie Murphy could do and the show was revived.
Some bands just are a soundtrack of a genre of a persons life, for me The Cars were a life changing soundtrack as I went from kid to cool young teenager in 7th and 8th grade and I remember my girl so vividly the summer in between my 7th and 8th grade year, it was like 81/82 ish. To this day we are still friends and to this day if a Cars song pop's on the radio either I will text her or she will text me. What a time it was. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world..

Huh? The sound on their records was incredible
The Cars were different from other bands with their energy and had so many hit songs, I bought every album they put out. If you got to live in the 50's through the 80's with all the classic movies & songs, YOU were blessed!
Since you're gone...I took the big vacation!! Rest in peace, Ric!!
1st concert I attended 1978 Oakland Colusium. Have been one of my favorites since then. (I'm 58)
You took the big vacation..rip Ric Ocasek, ty for all the great music..✨❤
This song is hauntingly beautiful, and Elliot Easton was the bands secret weapon, a 4 yr Berklee (same school I attended) grad who truly can play guitar. R.I.P Ric and Ben, ty for giving us such great music. 👍
Merging the 50's and 80s so effortlessly. Shoutout Ric for those classic chords
Rip Ric always love you, thanks for the music
i just want to go back to that time! Life was so cool, and the Cars were so Hot!
Was thinking the same thing. Ah, to go back. Youth.
It was a great time in life if you were a young adult finishing high school when their first album came out. I remember going to these late night beach parties with the Cars blasting from our stereos as we drank cold beer around a huge bonfire.
Ric Ocasek & Benjamín Orr #legends
Dont forget Elliot Easton on guitar
So true
Greg Hawkes gave The Cars their unique sound. Without him, it would not have been nearly the same. Peace and love, Greg! ✌️
Very true one of the most talented and underrated bands ever. Music nowadays is just garbage. Thank god for all the music made in my generation
I was just a young freshman in HS 1978 and we went to our friends apartment who lived by himself ( no parents)
Got really stoned and he played the cars album...
Now it's the allcrap arena😄
I was there, too! Nick Lowe opened. 2/13/82
I saw the Stones at the Rosemont in 81
I love how each one of them is dressed here. They're such individuals. Yet their musical cohesion flows like a well-oiled machine! :)
Thats one of the fun things I love about music. It brings such an eclectic mix of individual together in the name of music. Whoot!~
The cars were so unique, original and utterly awesome!! RIP RIc and Ben!!!
Fridays was ABC's short lived take on Saturday Night LIve in 1980. I saw and taped this performance. Love this
Excellent , loved that show
Considering the 80-81 season might be the most forgettable season (the first post Lorne Michaels season, with Gilbert Gottfried and Charles Rocket part of the cast), Fridays actually had a better show for a time.
They were so young & "innocent" - we all were. The good ole days. I remember skating to this song at Skateland, Petersburg, Virginia.
We had a Skateland in Jax Fla. Hope yours was a much fun and full of memories as ours...Grew up at Skateland and all kindsof Great Music...!!! Those were the daze...!?!
@@darrylcole7869 Oh yes it was a blast ! Skating rinks are a dying breed. We still have a 'Roller Dome' in Sandston, VA.
There's a 2019 documentary movie called 'United Skates about the last skating rinks in the U S. Highly recommend.
Takes you down memory lane. Bittersweet ! ✌😎
Rock on in Heaven Rick, you have plenty of good company to hang with! Thanks for all you have given us!!
Thanks for all the wonderful music, Ric. R.I.P.
The Cars are still awesome. Miss Rick and Ben.
Now 2 of them are gone. Great band and I have many great memories tied to their music.
Going to miss you, Mr. Ocasek...since you're gone. :(
THANKS RIC AND THE CARS FOR THE TIMELESS MUSIC RIP
Every song....the lyrics, guitar, keyboards, drums, all together are an assemblage of unique and original music. Each song is a collective masterpiece....
I remember watching this in the early 80's at my neighbors house on a Friday night. Fell in love with the Cars then and it's been a great ride all these years. RIP Ben & Ric. 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗
Elliot Easton...one of the all time greats on lead guitar! The Band of the 80's
R.I.P ric your songs will always be a part of my life thank you
philip beck 👍👍👍
A voice like no other, thank you Ric may you Rest In Peace.
I can't believe you're gone. Rest in peace, thank you for the great music and memories.
They opened with this song when I saw them in concert in '81ish in L.A. One of the few bands who sounded even better live. One of my favorite songs of theirs is Bye Bye Love. Ben killed it on that song with his superb vocals and in his Gaucho outfit and hat. I've always loved these guys. RIP Ben and Ric.
The 2 most unique, distinct vocalists, imo!
One of the most under rated bands of ALL time and so far ahead of their time.
For those that love them, good on ya, for those that don't, your loss.
Reminiscent to the Doors a little over a decade before them in regards to uniqueness & bucking the trend.
The Cars are literally the essence of cool
facts
RIP Ric you were a big part of my youth.
A big part of my teenage world, the cars were superb and I still have those albums now.
These guys were off the charts awesome!
Rest in Peace Ric! Loved your voice and will continue to listen to the Cars!
Remember listening to the Cars, age 8,love them forever.in my memories growing up in the 70s..I'm 47...🤘🌵🖤
One of the best intro beats & melodies to a song ever
The Cars were the most underrated Rock n Roll band. They are creative, fantastic musicians. I loved them back when they first played. A d now that I'm in my 70s I still love them and their unique sound and hits. Long live the Cars memories and all the years they entertained their fans. God bless them and RIP the ones who have left us..😂🎉😅😊❤
wow again...don't think the 80's would of happened without these guys...so fresh
First class guitar solo, first class drumming, first class Band! 👏👍👌
Miles Davis was asked during an interview if and what rock he liked, and he said "Cars are cool".....
Great story. Didn't know that.
Не знал этого.
Do you have a link or source for that? I'd like to use it, but I need a source.
@@rebeccastevens1876 It was a while ago. It was either a Rolling Stone or Playboy interview...
He was also an incredible racist who said he'd like to spend his last few seconds on this earth killing a white man.
Remember seeing this on Fridays. Love the Cars. The epitome of the 80s.
Oh my, forgot about this awesome live performance!! What a great band in their day. My regret did not see them live...
It's hard to think about acts this chill and confident during slow, groove-focused songs like this one. This band really was unique, so well balanced and professional.
I'm glad I discovered them recently.
I've been to several hundred concerts since 1980, but sadly, I was never fortunate enough to have seen The Cars perform live!! I love their music, and they were definitely ahead of their time! Rest in peace Ric and Ben...we love you both, and the other members of the legendary band THE CARS! You'll never be forgotten.
They really embraced the 80s style. Excellent song craftsmen.
The Cars had their own sound, and anyone could recognize their signature songs. I have 4 or 5 of their albums on vinyl, and also have a few on CD. They were my favorite new wave group.
I remember watching this on a little Black and White TV in my room sneaking staying up late live, what a great time, still one of my favorite songs
Coolest band those were the days always miss the 80s
That little smile between Ben and Ric around 2:18 warms my heart.
what a sound...the coolest
I never would have guessed a sound like this had come out in the early 80's. It sounds like what the indie pop bands nowadays are trying to emulate (except the Cars actually got it right). Wayyyy ahead of their time.
Kaylin B You are on point there!! The Cars are Phenomenal. I have liked them since Elementary School.
You're So Right Bou. Wayyy Ahead of Their Time.
NO, they were right on time...its the rip off sound now that is a waste.
80's music that came out in the 70's how cool is that
Late 70s
80s Best Decade for music. No decade has surpass this yet.
They have a special sound. When I first heard them. It was different but beautiful melody. They kept getting better and better.
This is one of the greatest rock and rolls bands .
They really put on a great show
We're losing all the good ones,Rest in Peace Ric and thanks for the good tunes and memories
"You're so treacherESS!" Ric is kinda channelling Dylan. I dig it!
he destroys dylan in every way
Love Benjamin, but also love to hear Rick sing occasionally, great song!!
such a quirky, instantly recognizable vocalist...and the lyrics always have a double entendre or two thrown in...great stuff...
Ben totally struck the pose and held it at the end, great musicians!
The best part of my life, the 80's!!! The Car's are so great!!! Everything was so much fun!!!! It's 2023, there is nothing in the music business, that comes close to the 80's, and never will!!!! 💯💯👍👍🎶🎶🎶.....
