When a 56 year old man cries over watching old music videos like the CARS... well, you know how important they were in his life growing up. Great memories of great days gone by. RIP Ben and Ric. If you only know how your songs bring back so many great fond memories..
49 over here was just seven when they first came out but my dad liked them in all my uncles did so I've been a fan forever. It's hard to explain to younger people and they ask questions all the time about the '80s. Like they ask questions like what was it like back then cuz they hear so many good things and I assume the late 70s as well. And I tell him that the music used to make a big difference in our lives. It's kind of hard sometimes to convey the concept. I just go with the old adage of how art imitates life and life imitates art. So many of my memories growing up and over the years into spirits I think at the time and I completely think of the music that went along with it
Yeah, David Robinson still brings it! He didn’t miss a beat, and being a drummer and HUGE fan of his, I was tuned into him. That’s not an easy beat to play, took me awhile to get it down.
I was 17 when the Cars debuted in 1978 and I was immediately attracted to them because they were different. Terrific band and great tribute to Ben by not having anyone play bass - RIP Ben and Ric
Listen closer, people: there IS someone playing bass on this performance. They're unseen, that's all, probably playing backstage, but nonetheless heard.
It is actually sequenced by Greg Hawkes who also played studio bass parts on "Move Like This", at times using one of Ben's old basses. "Move Like This" is a fine album. What is obviously missing here and on that album are Ben's always solid backing vocals.
They only ever played with another bassist in the Rock n Roll HOF, which was the current bassist for Weezer. I think they just skipped bass on tour and live performances after and before that.
Yeah, that's pretty amazing and very admirable. It does take away from their performance though. The fantastic bassline is my favourite part of Let's Go!
I think on this tour, keyboardist Greg Hawkes would play Bass with synchronized keyboard parts for some songs because he played the bass on Move Like This, which was the album they reunited to make and this tour was to promote that. They used Synchronized bass parts for the songs Ben would’ve played on out of respect for their bandmate. So yeah while they never officially had Bens spot filled, Greg still took over for Ben on the new stuff. I believe the band would also always have one of Ben Orr’s basses on stage at all times too.
@Rick C. that is the original lead singer Ric Ocasek. Benjamin Orr originally sang lead on this song, but he passed away awhile ago from cancer. Ocasek was one of the lead singers for the cars. Him and Orr split lead vocals on their songs. Hope this helps you
I found myself looking for Ben.....and then I thought 💭. you idiot he's gone. It was great they didn't just throw a bass player in there. Much respect to Ric and all of them for this! They still sounded great! I miss them!!
Ric performed an amazing vocal here....he knew better than anyone how "prettier" Ben's voice was...Ric said it and often...wrote a song and handed it to Ben to take the lead vocal. Pisses me off when people criticize him for singing Ben's lead vocals now. I can't imagine anyone else standing in for Ben and I imagine Ben wouldn't want anyone else standing in for him either. Cheers.
Unfortunately, I never saw them live ....therefore, I thought Ric sang all the songs. If only we had RUclips back in the day. I guess this info was on the album cover....
meeegashie I'm a HUGE Cars fan, but I saw them live on the Candy-o tour and they were underwhelming live. Not much stage presence and songs played pretty much as recorded. Loved seeing them play those songs, but I've seen lots of better live bands. I was disappointed, but still glad to have seen them at that stage in their career.
These guys were basically my introduction to music.. remember being mesmerized as a child by the you might think music video, this band personified the 80s..long live the Cars
The Cars were my first "real" concert. MY dad took me and my brother to the Spectrum in 1978 here in Philadelphia. I think I was 13 years old. Then we bought the knock-off t-shirts in the parking lot on the way out that fell apart after one washing. But the whole experience was awesome! Thanks, Dad!
Ric was the most unlikely of stars...but yet he always looked so cool...and embodied the image and energy of the band! RIP to Ric O...thank you and Ben for such sweet tunes!
You're right, but I'm not positively sure that I'd recognize David Robinson if I had seen him walking down a street. The others, I would in a heartbeat. To me, David's the one who has changed most in appearance.
1976!? That's great! I was only 7 at that time, didn't get to see them until 1984. They recently reissued/remastered most of their albums and added some cool demos and bonus tracks. Some early studio demos and a live track on the first album...probably done around '76. Check it out! ;)
Well-crafted pop songs. Great showmen. Unique, no one else looked or sounded like them. (I was in junior high & high school in their prime and never saw them live...damn)
Peter Criss played no small part in me becoming a drummer. When I got my first kit for Christmas in 1980, my older brother told me to learn 2112. After a few weeks of listening and having ZERO idea how someone like Neil Peart (RIP, Professor) could actually play ALL OF THOSE NOTES, I brought the record back to my older brother, almost in tears. He said, “stop being a baby and play this” and handed me Candy-O. It was the boost of confidence I needed. My brother and I started a band my sophomore year in high school and we played together for many years, through college and beyond. I believe The Cars made that possible, they really made that happen for us. My youth was filled with a bunch great moments, many of them based around musical performances, and I attribute a good bit of that joy to The Cars. I’m 54 and misting up because I’m a nostalgic, old fart.
We lost two legends iwith Ben and Rick but the memories and their music live on ! Great sound, great lyrics and great times . The 80s will never be lost !
I miss The Cars , both of them. It's 2021. 👍 does their passing give anyone else any insight on life? Live every day in gratitude. These guys WERE the 1980s.
Ric did a great job here, Ben would be proud. Long live The Cars. If the fates are kind they'll still be playing The Cars music a hundred years from now.
I had the pleasure of seeing Greg Hawkes last year in Boston with a Cars tribute band (weird, I know) called Eddie Japan. Greg told some cool stories from their glory days and they did a spot on set of about 18 classic Cars songs. Just fantastic and the lead guitarist nailed all of Elliott’s unique solos. If they’re playing near you, I highly recommend!
i never thought they have similar voices, i mean ben and ric, until i heard this video, they have similar tone of voices and as ric said in a interview they spend so much time together that their voices sound similar :D rock forever ric and ben !!
And to all you young kids out there, please youtube " The Cars, Rock goes to College 1978". You will see a real rock star in Ben Orr. Ric and Ben, RIP!
When the Cars first album was released we had no idea what we had! We just knew nothing sounded like it and it would spend a ton of time on our turntables!! RIP Rick and Thank You for Rockin our world!!

Andy, I'm the exact same way. The Cars are the sound of my youth!!
Me too 55(young nowadays ;) It goes back Good Old Days.
What Andy said.

Two testicles...STAT! :)
Nobody gives the drummer enough credit! he is awesome
He turned into a real Alta Kocker! eh He was dressed in a suit when interviewed for The Cars Live DVD. The rest of the members were dressed casually.
Yeah, David Robinson still brings it! He didn’t miss a beat, and being a drummer and HUGE fan of his, I was tuned into him. That’s not an easy beat to play, took me awhile to get it down.
@@kevinschmitt1852 That's what I see and hear.😅✌️
I'm with you. He held that song together. Pop pop pop from the begining till the last chord.😅
I really enjoy David Robinson's drumming but he seems to have temporarily lost the beat between 1:13 and 1:15.
I was 17 when the Cars debuted in 1978 and I was immediately attracted to them because they were different. Terrific band and great tribute to Ben by not having anyone play bass - RIP Ben and Ric

Me too. Got to see them at Arrowhead in 1979. Great show. One if the best.
Cruising around Friday night to the coolest soundtrack.
Good to see the young generation enjoying the vibe.
I agree with you, I think we were twins separated at birth. Lol
RIP Ben and Ric. Such an amazing band with a unique sound that no one else can emulate.
And the coolest thing is they never officially replaced Ben. Now that is love.
They only ever played with another bassist in the Rock n Roll HOF, which was the current bassist for Weezer. I think they just skipped bass on tour and live performances after and before that.

hazeltyler89: Well said! ❤️
I never knew till years later that Ben sang most of the leads I always assumed it was Rick he was rather standoutish in his unique look
Unfortunately, I never saw them live ....therefore, I thought Ric sang all the songs. If only we had RUclips back in the day. I guess this info was on the album cover....

Glen McLeod I saw the same tour and agree with your assessment. Sadly I had the same experience with Elvis Costello.
one of the best bands to walk the face of the Earth.
only just finding out...
Rowan Par the solo on “touch and go”
Very unique sound.
We got no doubts!
The cars !!! What a wonderful band. I listening now from Chile. 🎸🎼🎼🎤🎧
I love these guys music. They still sound as good to me as they did 35yrs ago. I'm gonna buy this album.
The cars still Rock!
I really like it.Bought it as soon as it came out.
Fantastic job !!I like The Classy way they did this you cannot replace Benjamin Orr!!!! Great job boys!!
DANG!! David Robinson still bringing it!! Big fan of his!!
Funny how people say Elliot is underrated, the man had a lifelong career in music...I'd say he rated just fine w those who mattered.
Exactly,& in my opinion also awesomely a superior guitarist!
They are stupid
These guys were basically my introduction to music.. remember being mesmerized as a child by the you might think music video, this band personified the 80s..long live the Cars
Ric and Ben are together again somewhere, and Candy-O must sound like heaven again.
RIP Ric, you left your mark.
Still one of my Fav of many Cars songs, Ric did a GR8 job IMO ..will miss him and Ben..Glad The Cars got inducted into HOF
their best song

I was 21 or 22 when this album came out.... Man.... talk about memories.... Time passes far too quickly....
My all time favourite Cars song! Let’s Go!!!!! ❤️
Me too I like the nightlife baby
RIP Mr Ocasek. I was 17 when this song was released. I had forgotten how many wonderful catchy pop tunes Ric created for us all to enjoy
R.i.p. to a great singer,
Ric was the most unlikely of stars...but yet he always looked so cool...and embodied the image and energy of the band!
RIP to Ric O...thank you and Ben for such sweet tunes!
These guys still look and sing great,it was sad when Benjamin died seen these guys in 1976 it was great little concert.......

Timeless talent!
Oh they look so old... Sad to see them like this
RIP Ric and thank you for the great music
Well-crafted pop songs. Great showmen. Unique, no one else looked or sounded like them. (I was in junior high & high school in their prime and never saw them live...damn)
Magnificent band!!
Wish I could go back in time and see these guys in concert in the 80s.
Rest in peace Ric. Thanks for the music. You and Ben are together again!
I don't know how much more I can take. First Eddie Money and now Ric. Truly a sad moment. 😭 RIP.....
RIP Ric.....Thanks for the timeless, classic music
David is still one of my favorite drummers in rock!!
Great underrated band. Great job Ric singing
My Greatest Memories!!! Thank you "The Cars" & Ric, you were a GENIUS
The "snap" on the snare is just perfect.

Loved all your music Ric Ocslac. RIP. Still a fan.
RIP bro. Such a classy musician and one of the great voices of music
Rick' jacket is the coolest I have ever seen, and I am 66!
RIP Rick, I grew up to your music
I really love these guys. They are extremely cool. RIP Ben Or & Rick Ocasek you two are truly missed.

They sound great.
I miss The Cars , both of them. It's 2021. 👍 does their passing give anyone else any insight on life? Live every day in gratitude. These guys WERE the 1980s.
RIP Rick and Ben. I loved this band in the 1970s. Their first two albums shaped me as a teen. Thanks for the amazing music.
Awesome !!
Takes me back to high school. Still love, still drum to it!!
Great band. RIP RIC/BEN. listened to them since late 70s early 80s.
Their first album was released two days before I graduated from high school. It was all over the radio in the summer of 1978. What a great band.
Ric did a great job here, Ben would be proud. Long live The Cars. If the fates are kind they'll still be playing The Cars music a hundred years from now.
Great song, and sounded as good as ever. RIP Ric, you brought so much joy to countless lives.
Ric Rest In Peace 💐🧚🏻♀️
These guys were so good. Honestly all their albums are enjoyable and I feel like they really get overlooked.
I like the homage -- the hand claps -- to the original Let's Go by the Routers, 1962. The Cars are great.
Pure class. Totally legendary and that jacket could blow any opposing vehicles out of orbit. Rip RO.
Hearing ric do bens songs is perfect proof of how different the 2 were.
25 years later or so it still sounds amazing! RIP Rick

Easton is a beast! He is the most underrated lead guitarist ever!
Lost a bit of their punch buy geez, it's good to see them like this. I'm such a HUGE fan of their music....ah the hot memories come flooding in...xo
Loved the Cars. Still sounds good today.
Live no backing tracks or Auto-Tune the way it should be RIP Ric
Elliot Easton is criminally underappreciated.
They were incredible and ground breaking.
RIP Rick, many fond memories of another time......
Esperta banda Thanks...
Real music by people that have talent.
My fav band of all time love the blue tip
Loveeeeee this!!! RIP Ric Let's go!!!!!!!!!!!!

This album is awesome. I absolutely love it and I'm a metalhead
If you think about it, what a great song for Ric to sing to include Ben!
Ric is an amazing singer!
So very sad about the passing of Ric Ocasek. He's with bandmate Ben Orr making great music in Rock and Roll Heaven. RIP to both.
Thx for the memories Mr Ric
One of the great American bands.
Rest in peace Ric...You and Ben in heaven serenading God
Great performance. 👍
When I listen to The Cars, I'm in my 20s again. I'm old now, but so what.
Oh the reunion in heaven.. Ben and Ric
i never thought they have similar voices, i mean ben and ric, until i heard this video, they have similar tone of voices and as ric said in a interview they spend so much time together that their voices sound similar :D rock forever ric and ben !!
CARS will live forever!
And to all you young kids out there, please youtube " The Cars, Rock goes to College 1978". You will see a real rock star in Ben Orr. Ric and Ben, RIP!
Saw them at the '82 US Festival. They were the only act that I worked my way to the front so I could take some pics.
Always in our hearths Ben❤
Awesome..music..
R.i.p
sound so fresh...............................
I mean if youre going to be stuck in an era for 40 years, the 80's is a pretty good one.
90 s too. I love Soundgarden and Nirvana
Wish they had reunited for an album and tour in the early-mid 90's
Legends.
One of the greatest bands of the 80s definitely mist
I seriously miss those two voices that we lost.
There comes a time... and his time has come.♥️✌🏼
They sound great
Fun to see this. Thanks.
Rest in peace Ric. You & Ben together again.
Have a great jam session up there, guys.
When the Cars first album was released we had no idea what we had! We just knew nothing sounded like it and it would spend a ton of time on our turntables!! RIP Rick and Thank You for Rockin our world!!
Together again? They're buried in the same cemetery?
Ace is A God!!! KISS no, they’re both up above or something to that extent.
They are in the same spot in hell I suppose. (I don't rejoice).
The Cars chose this song to honor Benjamin Orr. Way to go fellas!
When honoring a close friend who lost to cancer...is it appropriate to dishonor those men trying to pay respect? Nobody is pretending to be Benjamin Orr...they are honoring him by covering a song he's known for.
Nobody 'failed' except those who misjudge
William Ogden And those who presume. You have no clue if that's why they chose this song.
Ric Ocasik told me they did
+Cool One Rekt :o
They could've played any number of their great songs to honor Ben though. 'Bye, Bye Love' was a great one, and Ben sang it so well. A great bass player and powerful lead singer, Ben was way too cool for school!
