I'd doubt his veteran status if he DIDN'T have this kind of response. As a vet, this film makes me cry every... single... time. I rewatch it at least once a year, whether in whole, or watching these reactions.
It actually makes me a little bitter. When I look at the soft world we've created, and all the crybabies whining about petty BS in their cushy lives. Waaah... my boss gets mad when I'm late to work. Waaaah... I had to wait ten whole minutes in line to get my latte! Waaaah... someone hurt my feelings! It really makes you want to grab them by the collar and just shake some sense into them. People have no idea how good they've got it. The only reason they have time to whine is that they are pampered fools with easy lives.
Appreciate your emotions. I'm a vet, and my son is a Purple Heart vet of Iraq and Afghanistan. When he was wounded, his battle buddies saved him. And today, my son is "earning it." No matter how many times I see that final scene in the cemetery, it still gets me every time. All the best to you, FoxTaco.
My brother took me to see this in the theatres in 1998 before he got deployed. He wanted me to get a glimpse of what he'd be seeing. I didnt notice at first, but in that theatre, we were surrounded by majority of WW2 vets. Most in their OD greens bearing medals clasping their tags. A few left the theatre during the first 20mins. My brother got to talk to some of them after the film was done. He has yet to share that with me...
The medics on Omaha Beach were just incredible. They went to work doing the best they could under the circumstances, triage in the midst of chaos and carnage. Enemy fire killed and wounded medical personnel. My dad was an Army NCO in hospital administration and was involved in getting wounded men from France back to hospitals in England.
6:51 I finally looked it up on the movie's fandom wiki and found that Jackson's second shot destroyed the machine gun nest by getting through the sandbags and puncturing an ammo container. There is no way I would ever have guessed that was what was supposed to have happened, there.
The Norman character in the FURY movie had a full body freeze up, when he saw the young people hung by the SS, that put the hook into him. The Upham character in this movie had a full body freeze up, when he saw the Captain shot by the prisoner that was released, that put the hook into him. With those type of guys it has to be personal to make them pull a trigger.
My Grampa fought in WWII, he went a lot of places and did a ton, and told us so many stories, lots funny or exciting, a few sometimes seriois or sad... but it wasnt til the last year of his life when he had heart problems and was dying that he told my Grandma that he'd been part of a team that helped liberate a concentration camp, and she didnt tsll us til 6 months after he passed. I'd imagine some stories are just too hard to relive.
This masterpiece speaks for itself beyond belief. With Vets walking out of theaters because of the reality. You are now obligated to see Band of Brothers to those who haven't already. Spielberg and Hanks were just beginning with this brilliance. They trolled us so well from the beginning thinking Ryan was actually Captain Miller with the eyes. As horrific and spectacular this film is in every way, the hardest part for me to see is still the knife fight. When he's trying to reason with him as a person. It illustrated the pointlessness and need of War in one breath. FUBAR My Father's name was James Frederick. That part gets me every time.
You asked what Upham and the German said to each other at the end. Upham: "Lay down your weapons, lay down your weapons!"(to the group) German: "I know this soldier! I know this man!" Upham: "Shut your snout" German: "Upham?" Upham fires. He afterwards tells the other Germans to "Disappear"
Just starting to watch this video, but I had to pause & thank you for your service. I know, I know, it sounds cliche'd by now, but this is one US citizen who MEANS it. Look for my post-viewing comments too.
This is a great movie. First saw it when it came out in the theaters. Sane year as my grandfather who fought at normandy at Utah beach on d-day. I wish the first ryan said he doesn’t have brothers and has sister. Would have made that part funny.
I think over 50% of people would find the resolve to go and help at that key moment, Upham is not such a person, he’s too scared, he doesn’t belong there and realistically the other squad members would have long since lost patience and done something about it, whatever it would be, something But bear in mind it’s often said that Upham’s lack of resolve as a character is meant to symbolize America’s initial hesitancy to enter the war and fully commit to the fight, that it cost time and thusly lives.
I got hit with HEAVY HEAVY ISSUES on alot of my vidoes had to sort it out with youtube so yes..i got the ok to reupload my content without issues on these versions.

I'm a veteran and wondering why we are talking about Memorial Day on December 26. I mean we should remember every day, but this is not Memorial Day 😊 Maybe we will bump into each other at Debakey someday 😊
Since this is a reupload, I will repost roughly the same comment I made on the original upload... Saving Private Ryan is not very accurate to history, but is incredibly realistic in most every way, with a very few exceptions...such as bullets not being able to kill you that far underwater, and flamethrowers not really exploding that way in 1944. One thing to know, pay no mind at all to that man who took off his helmet on the beach at 6:10 and then got shot in the head...that next shot would have killed him even if he had kept his helmet on. The helmets of WW2 would almost never stop a bullet, except under very very rare circumstances. The movie is not a true story, and it differs from the actual history of D-Day in many ways...but the basic plot is loosely based on the 4 Niland Brothers, one of whom served with the 101st Airborne Division. However, when 3 Nilands were reported dead, no mission was sent behind enemy lines to get the last brother, and it turned out that one brother that had been thought dead had actually only been captured. The 4th brother was found and notified by an Army Chaplain, and was sent home, but as far as the brothers none of what happened in this movie happened in real life. There really was a Company C of the 2nd Rangers that landed on Omaha Beach, but they were commanded by Captain Ralph Goranson, and they did not land quite where it was shown in the film. Probably the most important historical thing that Spielberg got wrong is that he had the boats that carried the Rangers to the beach being driven by Americans...they were not. On D-Day, the boats that carried the US Rangers to the beach were driven by UK sailors of the Royal Navy. There are many other things in the film that are not accurate to the real history of D-Day, but that one really fails to honor some of the men that fought and died at Omaha Beach, so it is definitely the one most worth noting.
Hmmmm, such an expert, you were there? I knew sevral vets who were there and saw this all say it was the most realistic representation of what happened. You have only read about what someone wrote from other written stories. There are so many mistakes written, some because they wanted a certain view that readers would get, some because whoever told the stories just lied. There were a lot of coverups to save some generals ass.
You can look it up yourself...the movie is realistic, not historically accurate. Even in the Omaha Beach scene the beach is wrong, the obstacles are wrong, the Vierville draw is wrong, the bunkers are wrong, the boats are wrong as well as the people operating them...and on and on. There are many videos on YT detailing all the stuff Spielberg got wrong, and I only mention a very few things. There is a difference between realism and accuracy.

When Wade saw he was hit in the liver, he knew he would bleed out in minutes. He also knew the morphine would kill him 😢😢😢

Loved your reaction to B.O.B just subbed man. Thanks for your service man
Thank you for being here 🙏🏿🇺🇸 enjoy the reaction
"Steamboat Willie" says "I know this soldier, I know this man" basically. Then Upham says "shut your face." [Shut up].
Great heartfelt reaction brother!

To answer your question: When Upham had the German soldiers at gunpoint, the one soldier said “I know this man…..I know this soldier…….Upham!”

Hey brother, I assume this is a re-upload since it's Dec 26th now. In any case love your reactions, all the best from a fellow vet.
Don’t know whether or not you’ve seen “Hacksaw Ridge,” but if you haven’t..for a medic it’s a must, especially.
whoa your sub count doubled overnight!? Congrats!
The German soldier said "Ich kennen sie, man." "I know you."
I love how you basically said Sgt Horvath's line later in the movie at 25:20 XD

Exellent review
Upham is the all time movie villian 🤨
2000 Americans died on that beach.
German troops, for the most part, did not target medics in WW2.

Was this movie that much exaggerated compared to the real first wave of the real D-day ?
No, it was this brutal 2,000 American soldiers alone died on that beach
