love your take on this show and how you observe and appreciate all the nuances without really rushing to judgement you’re really letting the tale seduce you and that’s a rarity in this fandom lol and I agree on Louis killing the alderman and the consequences of that even if they hadn’t burned the town down they would have continued to kill it slowly in other ways regardless of Louis’ actions, so I say let him have his moment of triumph and put at least one monster out of commission

Yes! Omg, it's so refreshing to see someone who already consumes fantasy and can see this story for what it is, without seeing them as humans, judging them by human metrics. It's a gothic horror, we're talking about vampires, they're all monsters, they're all victims and abusers at the same time. I'm loving your reactions, can't wait for the next ones!

The one-minute window means a 1.5-mile uncertainty. 38:40 I wish that Doc had figured it out for himself. 40:30 The final scene where they fly off into the sunset was never intended as a sequel hook. They didn't think of a sequel.

I love both Louis and Lestat (and this isn't really a criticism of either one) but Louis is definitely kinder and gentler toward Claudia (as if raising a human child) and Lestat is teaching vampire survival. Louis is still dealing with his own adjustments to vampirism (even seeming to dislike actually being a vampire and choosing eating habits which literally make him physically weaker) and that's not necessarily a posture that bodes well for his own long term outlook, let alone Claudia's long term outlook. If the best form of teaching offspring is by example, then Louis' method is going to raise a kinder, gentler vampire who kinda hates themself, unfortunately. Lestat's method is teaching how to survive and thrive as a vampire -- which may be ugly sometimes, but it's the way he believes a vampire needs to be in order to carry on. Lestat, like him or not, accepts himself 100% -- and isn't that step one in any long-term survival handbook? People think vampire = immortal... but I don't think it's that simple or that easy.

I love what you said about domino effects: this all starts with Lestat, and his effed up ways of handling bad situations. Like, Les, how you gonna tell Claudia not to mess with humans, when you were trailing HUMAN Louis for months and a Sunday, going to family dinner and operas and mess; when if you wanted a companion so bad you should've just found someone who was already a vampire to chill with!? BECAUSE he's older, with great power comes great responsibility. Tell her she's not ready for the Little Drink, and be considerate of her feelings; don't mentally scar her for life, ffs! Ugh.

One thing I don’t think people picked up on regarding the wake is the only reason Grace invited Louis was to discuss him giving her and her husband the family house because as she put it, “You don’t need the money. You and yo white daddy doing fine in The Quarter.” Grace was just as raggedy as any other character. She immediately knew what was going on with Louis and Lestat and was perfectly fine with her brother as long as he was footing the bills and paying for an expensive European honeymoon. But now that she’s living off her husband’s meager earnings, she has nothing but contempt for Louis. Raggedy 🤣

Man you are seriously part of a selected few reactors I've seen with such well thought out and rounded analysis of ALL the characters and their actions! like don’t get me wrong, these guys ARE supposed to bring out hard emotions and conflict within us for sure, but it sometimes feels like people forget to look at or entirely gloss over the big picture, the parallels and the archetypes being discussed, the complexities of each vampire with their respective inmortal baggages of an existence that we can find relatable and loathsome at the same time... and that's the fun of the show! Cannot wait to hear what you think of all their character arcs by the end :)

Love your point that Lestat genuinely does care for Claudia. She isn't only Louis' redemption, she's also Lestat's companion (non romantically). He has been alone in his relationship with Louis for a long time and while he loves Louis, they simply do not view being a vampire the same way. But Claudia will hunt with him and kills without remorse, so when she suddenly starts showing signs of being too attached to humanity, it's not surprising that Lestat overreacted in an attempt to snuff that humanity out before it could take root. I don't doubt that Lestat is also using Claudia for his own purposes with Louis, but as with most things on this show, two things can be true at once. He can be attempting to use her to better manipulate Louis into seeing things from Lestat's point of view, and he can be reveling in finally having a vampire companion who understand him.

Another insightful reaction!!!! Thank you for recognizing that BOTH Lestat and Louis were culpable in Claudia's suffering. She will continue to be the most sympathetic character (in spite of her atrocities) because she is desperately grasping for some sort of control and volition in the cage of her existence. The unholy family is incredibly nuanced and it's nice to see a nuanced take on them! Edit: also the connection between their diet and sexuality is something I've not seen ANY other reviewers/reactioners speak on 👏 brava

Yesss, Louis' reasons to save Claudia may have felt noble to him, but they were quite egotistical. He was still trying to deny his vampiric nature. And still, they both loved her as a daughter, but Louis tried to see the human aspect of it, while Lestat saw her as a talented young vampire. She suffered because of both their decisions and actions. My girl deserved so much better. 😭

This is literally how I interpret the entire episode watching this for the first time. Claudia has always been the only victim in my eyes. Sorry not sorry 😂😂 🤷‍♀️ Louis kept trying to shift the blame to Lestat. Louis was being delusional like always. I clocked that Louis is in denial because Lestat was freezing and using his powers yet Louis said he didn't realize he was being hunted. At the table with Lily he literally told Louis that he moved to town for him. Boy bye 😒

I read an interesting take today, Lestat's turning of Claudia can mirror that of a mother who does not want to have children, but is coerced into becoming one so that her husband does not leave.

The writing on this show is so beautiful. That line where she says 'the first guy I killed called me a devil and the last one an angel, so I must be on the right path' is so good. Don't know if it comes from the book or not, but wow. Anyway, another great reaction. I really love how you see everything from your own POV, not your favorite character's, you see the whole picture and that's appreciated, especially on a reactor. Not to mention your analysis. Enjoying these a lot. P.S.: I hope your eyes are better!

Louis’ restricted eating harms his physical health and denying his queerness/not feeling accepted or able to live openly takes a toll on his mental health (both as a mortal & vampire). I love that you were quick to see the question of whether to save Claudia from Lestat's POV too, and clocked that yes, the show is really clever in making sure you're attached to Claudia and invested in her being saved! Very unique way of reading the situation that I don't think many people would pick up on with a first viewing of the show. I'm also realizing now that Louis snapping at Grace at the wake and bringing back some of the hard attitude he had as a pimp in episode 1 when he pulled a knife on Paul is probably a deliberate parallel from the writers--again, he's directing that kind of masculine bravado at a family member he loves and we know here that he's already in pain from his mom dying, but I think it also goes to show how quickly Louis pulls away emotionally when he's made to feel powerless or insecure (here with Grace trying to remove him from her life and taking a jab at his relationship with Lestat, and back then when Paul was denouncing his involvement in the brothels). This can also be compared to the way he tends to become emotionally withholding around Lestat when he's deep into his shame about being a vampire or upset with Lestat's behavior, I think. He can't quite mimic the dynamic of being Grace and Paul's older brother and the provider of the household with Lestat, who outranks him in both vampire and human society terms, but he does channel the archetypal frigid housewife in his attitude when he's upset, almost.
