    The thing is Jenny did not think she deserved Forrest's love. Abuse victims often feel that way. Eventually, after the birth of their son, she finally understood what true love is about.
    Most people think the virus was AIDS but they say it was actually Hep C, which was discovered around the same time, was passed along through sharing drug needles or sex and was a death sentence also.
    As for Tom Hanks movies you should defintely see, the first two feature Gary Sinese(Lt Dan) and came out after "Forrest Gump". The first one is "Apollo 13", the true story of the space flight. Then another tear jerker is "The Green Mile". Finally, the last of the three must watch movies of his, "Saving Private Ryan".

    Jenny knew that Forest was pure and she had a childhood that really messed her up so she never thought she was good enough for Forest and he should stay far away from her. However, Forest was the only one that showed her unconditional love and she finally realized how precious that that kind of love was.

    • @roguechevelle
      @roguechevelle 2 месяца назад +7

      I also think because she was sexually abused at such a young age and because Forest was pure & innocent she always seemed to feel guilty after making a move on Forest like she was doing something wrong or hurting him. She was projecting a lot when she would tell Forest he doesn't know what love is when she didn't actually know it or how to be loved in a healthy way.

    • @bitterzombie
      @bitterzombie Месяц назад +1

      When Jenny says "You don't know what love is", she is projecting. Forrest is the only genuine source of love in her life, but she has learned to fear & distrust that feeling. This comes back later when he says "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is." He is basically telling her that she's wrong, he knows how he feels, whether she can accept it or not.

    As for what Forrest said during his speech, according to Tom Hanks he said, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."

  • @StevesTubes
    @StevesTubes 2 месяца назад +22

    Forrest, while disadvantaged at birth, was the recipient of a nurturing and loving childhood and accomplished great things. Jenny's childhood was the nightmare of sexual abuse from her father. This experience led to many poor decisions in her life. It wasn't until she was going to have her own child that she was able to straighten out her life. I applaud her willingness to change in order to give her child a better life. Even if you are cynical enough to believe she only got back with Forrest because she was dying and he had money, then she did the best she could for her kid.

      если внимательно смотреть фильм, то станет ясно, что Дженни никогда не стремилась к богатству, как и не имела привычки врать (ибо многие подозревают, что она родила ребёнка от другого. но если опять же внимательно и не предвзято смотреть фильм, то совершенно очевидно, что она сказала правду

    The role of Lt Dan changed Gary Sinise's life. Portraying a wounded vet and the reaction of vets to the film spurred him to found one of the largest vets charity - the Gary Sinise Foundation which builds accessible homes for wounded warriors and helps God Star families, etc.
    The hospital scene with the letters were all marked Return to Sender - she never got the letters as she was hitchhiking around as a hippie in the 60s.
    Jenny is a complex character and hard to like but she ws pretty obviously dealing with horrid lifelong effects of childhood abuse.
    Such a great movie with amazing acting by Hanks. Field, Sinise, and Wright. That moment when Hanks/Forest says "Is he smart or is he like me?" Killer.

    Saw this film in theaters when it first came out. I've probably seen it over 50 times. The part when he asks Jenny if little Forrest is smart or like him always gets me choked up. Never fails.

  • @pablozee6359
    @pablozee6359 2 месяца назад +17

    In the hospital when Forrest gets the bundle of letters to Jenny it wasn’t a happy moment - all the letters were stamped “Return to Sender” or “Undeliverable” indicating that she never received any of them because she was nomadic - still unknowingly chasing whatever toxic people and behaviors she thought she needed trying to work through the horrific trauma of rape and sexual abuse afflicted upon her and her sisters alluded to early in the movie. A lot of fans of this movie shit on Jenny because of her fickle treatment of Forrest, but conveniently ignore the breadth of her early trauma at the hands of the man who was supposed to protect and nurture her. It doesn’t excuse her bad behavior, but damn, have a little empathy and understand why she turned out like that. Great movie. Worth multiple watches to catch references you may have missed.

    • @Zed-ti9uj
      @Zed-ti9uj 2 месяца назад +1

      It's not something people in general understand. Instead of blaming how perception and human response works in general, you should instead direct your efforts on how to guide people with traumatic experiences down a better path. Many are able to. They are all able to manage their demons and respond to it in different ways and evaluate themselves, just like everyone in different hardships. It leads the way for more people now just making excuses, who have been through far less and don't even try, or default to wronging others because they've been wronged and paint it as a bizarre type of self defense. What happens to them reveals the person they are based on their response to it, it doesn't cause it. You are the person you are because of your actions, period, not your emotions/past/thoughts/opinions. How many people respond to something that is reprehensible to them with grace?

And that's all I have to say about that...Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. When LT. "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
    Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Hanna Hall and Jacqueline Lovell.
    Casting Notes Fact: The girl in the school bus with the red hair is Tom Hanks's daughter, Elizabeth Hanks.
    Medical Fact: The author made it clear that Jenny dies of Hepatitis C. She contracted the disease through her drug abuse, and the virus was indeed unknown until 1989. Since the movie is set in the 1980s, it explains why the doctors could not help her in any way.
    Historical Fact: During the ambush in Vietnam the enemy is never actually seen. This led many combat veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, to rate this as one of the most accurate combat scenes in movie history. It was very sudden, the enemy wasn't seen, and it happened very quickly.
    Music Enthusiast Fact: Inspired by Lieutenant Dan Taylor, the military veteran character he played in this movie, Gary Sinise co-founded a rock and roll cover band called "The Lt. Dan Band" during the mid-2000s. The band often goes on USO tours to play for U.S. military personnel stationed around the world and also plays various benefits for veteran-related causes. Sinise was awarded the Presidential Citizen Medal in 2008 for his charity efforts.
    Double Duty Fact: In the movie there are four actors/actresses who play multiple roles. Gary Sinise plays Lieutenant Dan as well as all of his ancestors. Mykelti Williamson plays Benjamin Beaufort "Bubba" Blue, as well as the waiter opening Dr. Pepper bottles when Forrest meets JFK as an All-American. Sally Field plays Forrest's mom, as well as a male reporter during Forrest's run across America. Tom Hanks plays both Forrest and his Confederate ancestor.

    Jenny is one of the most misunderstood characters of all time. Her type of life is not often portrayed in movies. I see a lot of myself in her so i understand her mental state of not understanding or feeling worthy of love, or even able to love herself. The drug abuse, the terrible men, the running away constantly...i did it all too. She would rather have her lifelong friend be in her life as a friend because she knew if they got together while she was messed up she'd only hurt him. A lot of people hate Jenny for that but I respect that she'd rather be friends than hurt Forest because she wasn't able to give him what he deserved. Jenny lived a very tortured life, her disgusting father is the villian of this story, not Jenny. ❤

    2 and a half minutes in, “this is not supposed to be a comedy, right?” That’s what I fucking love about this movie so much. It’s everything.
    It’s a Coming-Of-Age story, it’s a love story, it’s a comedy, it’s a war movie, and it’s one of the saddest fucking films throughout the whole length. I’ve watched this movie easily 500 times.
    I watched this movie for the first time when I was 8, and from 8-12 years old I watched this movie at least twice a day. Sometimes it’s the only thing I’d do all day during summer. I’d just sit and watch Forrest Gump from start to finish, then restart it, watch to the end, restart it, watch to the end, a good 5 or more times.
    I just couldn’t get enough of this movie. I’m 25 now and I still fucking cry throughout this whole movie.

    Forrest Gump is an amazing film and I like to give a couple thoughts about Some of the themes and motifs. First of all, the movie implies that forest is involved in or the cause of almost every significant event in American history since the 1960s. This is presented in a comedic way. But i think the film is telling a story not just Forrest and Jenny, but of the United States. Forrest and Jenny experience a wide range of challenges, failures, successes, ups, and downs. I think the writers are suggesting that the United States is like that. I could write an entire essay on this. But just spend a few moments thinking about some of the things that Forrest and Jenny experienced. Some of their trials, failures, and successes. Then imagine that as a metaphor for things that the nation was going through.

    When I first watched the movie I assumed it was AIDS. In terms of jenny when people watch this movie half dislike her and the other half feel sorry for her and understand her decisions even if they didn't agree with her choices. When you've gone through trauma for years at a young age it sets your perception of the world and affects your future decisions as you grow up. People sometimes think she should have been nicer to him which I agree and it's not that she didn't care but she was battling memories she didn't want to remember aka the drug use, depression makes you think you don't deserve anything good so you settle for bad things and you're just destructive. When you're battling something you're struggling to resolve you don't make sound decisions.

    You left out the most important scene with Lt. Dan. When Lt. Dan finally transcends his anger & resentment towards Forrest and being handicapped. "Forrest, I never thanked you for saving my life " as he then swims away towards the horizon.
    This is a most important lesson of the movie. Can you edit that scene in?

    You should watch Tom Hanks in Philadelphia. It was one of his first serious roles. Denzel Washington, Antonio Banderas is also in it.

    It's easy to be frustrated with Jenny when we see her constantly push away Forrest's unconditional love. But a lot of people don't even survive childhood abuse let alone go on to have happy healthy relationships in the future. Jenny loved Forrest but didn't think she was worthy of his love so stayed away. It's a miracle in itself that she came around in the end.

    1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑
    2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis.
    3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
    4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
    5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
    6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.
    5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😍😋😈
    8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony..
    9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his.
    10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."
    11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking.
    13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks"
    14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.
    15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that"
    16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.
    If you haven't already, you must do Tom Hanks in the GOAT "The Green Mile". Stephen King adaptation. You WILL cry.😭
