I've watched countless channels and reactors do this film. So very, VERY few actually took the time to try and understand the perspectives of the other characters in the film like Jenny and Lt. Dan, so actually understand how and why they are the way they are, but you... YOU... You absolutely gorgeous person you... You did. I think like many people I appreciate Jenny’s character more as I’ve gotten older in life. I think she had HIV or AIDS, because of her sexual life in the past(and the times/ years.) That’s just the only thing I can describe it as because it was considered a “virus” love the fact that forest was still there to support her in that non-verbalize sense of death do us part through sickness and health that he knew from that moment, he met her on the bus that he’s always loved her

Most definitely. Jenny was a sad character to watch because she had a hard life. Even though she didn't want Forest to rescue her, she needed rescuing for sure. Poor Jenny 😢❤
Tell me about it. Most reactors HATE Jenny with a passion. It's almost scary that they don't recognize PTSD symptoms from child abuse. When you've been SA'ed by a parent, someone you by default trust, your ability to trust people is gone. Jenny came up with Run Forrest Run because that's what she's been doing all her life. Running. Forrest just takes her advice in difficult situations because he loves her. I never held it against Jenny that she left Forrest multiple times. She had to go through her own process to get to a place where she could accept love, and I think having a kid with Forrest helped her with that. Thanks to RUclips, this movie is finally getting the love that it actually deserves. It was seen as overrated for years. Tom Hanks playing a goofy character in a sappy movie. But it's getting there. Robert Zemeckis is a great director too.
It’s not just male reactors, but female reactors too that don’t cut Jenny slack for her trauma. In fact I’ve never seen a male or female reactor with this perspective. And it’s something i always look for and never see. Jenny receives a lot of hate by some and i just don’t get it.
My life parallels Jenny's in so many ways. My abuse came from an uncle and thankfully not a parent. Recovery is possible...but hard. I'm 69 y.o. and I often think how my life could have been different without that uncle. Never found true love, but thankfully have 3 wonderful kids that make up most of what was lost...and found God at an early age and He sustains me. God is good all the time!
Gary Senise, actor playing Lt. Dan, has set up a charity helping wounded vets and first responders. He also takes plane loads of children and families toDisney World every year. And much moe to help veterans.

I loved everything about this reaction, but especially that you were able to understand where Jenny was coming from! Most reactors I've seen have spent the whole movie hating on Jenny because of how she hurt Forrest (which is fair), but hardly anyone seems to get that it's all coming out of her own pain and trauma. I love that you were able to see and hold both at the same time- angry at how she's hurting him, but also feeling for her in her struggle
I always love that at the wedding while everyone else is sitting Lt. Dan is standing in the back. Presumably because he spent enough time being forced to sit that he prefers to avoid it now.
wow, that's an interesting insight, I honestly assumed (judging by his gait when he and Susan walked through the gate) that the way his titanium legs were attached, they didn't quite bend enough at the knee to make sitting easy.
I adored this movie when it was in theathers and watched it a lot over the years. But it became my touchstone when my son was diagnosed with severe, nonverbal autism and I was getting doctors basically writing him off or telling me all the things he would never be able to do. My husband, his dad, had just died. So I channel my inner Sally Field. When things would get tough or the insurance was running me around, I'd say - what would Forrest's Mama do? My sons life is not perfect, but its also nowhere near the hopeless and very small box they tried to put him in. He is thriving Love your reaction ❤ You are a beautiful soul.
i think, like so many people, I judged Jenny harshly - and after living some life, I realize just how deep her depression, shame, guilt and heartbreak were.
I see a lot of reactors who judged Jenny. I like that Mike actually understood the real issue and how childhood (or long term adulthood) abuse impacts your whole world. It's shocking that people think so simply on Jenny's actions, but I guess the silver lining is, these people have never experienced something so bad that they actually cant comprehend the complexities. Their ignorance is frustrating but I'm glad they also don't know the realities.

Just stumbled on your channel when this popped up under "recommended" and I have to say Thank You for getting Jenny right away. A lot of people get really angry with her and call her selfish but miss how much a product of her environment, upbringing and abuse she was and how little self-esteem she had deep down. Great reaction! I always feel like this movie is all about running. Forrest is always running forward to get somewhere and Jenny is always running away without getting anywhere. I'm glad you saw the tragedy in Jenny's story, it's so nice to see her getting a happy (yet short) end with Forrest catching up to her, being the most loving father to their son (: Also at the end when Forrest walks away from Jenny's grave, he turns around one more time as birds fly off. Its a nice closure to her childhood trauma because she was always praying for god to turn her into a bird so she could fly away. In a way the birds are her spirit finding closure in her final moments, finally free to fly away. Really such a beautiful movie.

Growing up in Canada physically disabled and seeing this on video for the first time at 12 years old shortly after it was released, I loved this movie. I'm still looking for my Jenny, though, all these years later. From a young age, I understood all the racial implications of movies, having seen Mississippi Burning when I was very young and watching a series on WWII about the Holocaust. If there's one way to get me emotional, show me people being abused or oppressed by bigots, because I'm white, but I've been bullied because of the way I walk. The irony of this movie is that while Forrest may have an academic disability, he understands a greater truth about humanity that most of the characters take years to understand. "Why are you so good to me?" "You're my girl." If you're good to him, he's good to you. And if you're not, he wants to know why because he might be able to fix it. His faith in humanity is unwavering.

Yo great reaction my friend. Shout out to you for understanding Jenny and realizing there was.a reason she acted like she did. I've seen so many reactors who just hate on Jenny without emphasizing with her. She was abused as a child so she could not accept the love that Forrest was trying to give her. We accept the love we think we deserve and Jenny felt she did not deserve Forrest in her life. Even though she told Forrest he did not know what love was, it was truly Jenny that didn't know what love was. How could she when the only love she ever received was from Forrest? Once she cleaned up and had a son, she finally felt she was ready to accept Forest's love.
I've watched so many Forest Gump reactions and I never get sick of it. I recommend "Good Will Hunting" as well, another I never get sick of watching reactions to. You'll love Robin Williams' performance in it as the therapist
I think a lot of viewers miss/forget that Jenny's dad was sexually abusive to her and her sisters, not just a violent drunk. Her concept of love and intimacy was wounded from the start. I think that's why she felt so bad for Forrest in her dorm room and why she ran away after they had sex in his house. He's so innocent with that kinda stuff, like she was. For her, it's like they're repeating her childhood in reverse.
1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune💲💲 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😋 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. At the rally Forrest says, "Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 11. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks" 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis. 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey. If you haven't already, you must do Tom Hanks in the GOAT "The Green Mile". Stephen King adaptation. You WILL cry.😭

Most people agree that Jenny has not only PTSD, but borderline personality (what happens when you'e subjected to repeat abuse during the formative years of life). She doesn't know how to receive love like Forrest's. In her life love was always associated with pain. She doesn't feel she deserves him-and so she pushes him away. Her asking to marry him in the end, many people see as selfish-but she wanted their son to be with him-and she wanted to be with him too.

I'm 44 and I watched Forrest Gump the first time in my 8th grade Science class when it first came out. I have loved it ever since. Have you watched 'Whale Rider'? It's s a beautiful movie set in New Zealand with the Maori people. It's about a little girl that must battle with her people's traditional beliefs. Another movie about destiny and not taking no for an answer. Think you will love it.

I adored this movie when it was in theathers and watched it a lot over the years. But it became my touchstone when my son was diagnosed with severe, nonverbal autism and I was getting doctors basically writing him off or telling me all the things he would never be able to do. My husband, his dad, had just died. So I channel my inner Sally Field. When things would get tough or the insurance was running me around, I'd say - what would Forrest's Mama do?
My sons life is not perfect, but its also nowhere near the hopeless and very small box they tried to put him in. He is thriving

i think, like so many people, I judged Jenny harshly - and after living some life, I realize just how deep her depression, shame, guilt and heartbreak were.
Her pain doesn’t give her the right to emotionally abuse somebody who already has a mental handicap it’s cruel and she does it with full knowledge

I see a lot of reactors who judged Jenny. I like that Mike actually understood the real issue and how childhood (or long term adulthood) abuse impacts your whole world. It's shocking that people think so simply on Jenny's actions, but I guess the silver lining is, these people have never experienced something so bad that they actually cant comprehend the complexities. Their ignorance is frustrating but I'm glad they also don't know the realities.

Just stumbled on your channel when this popped up under "recommended" and I have to say Thank You for getting Jenny right away. A lot of people get really angry with her and call her selfish but miss how much a product of her environment, upbringing and abuse she was and how little self-esteem she had deep down. I deeply appreciate your kindness to all the characters in this film, especially Jenny. I find it fascinating how easily people forget the impact of her trauma while celebrating Dan's journey (not to say that trauma excuses all of her behavior). This film is just so sweet, subtle, and insightful.

Great reaction! I always feel like this movie is all about running. Forrest is always running forward to get somewhere and Jenny is always running away without getting anywhere. I'm glad you saw the tragedy in Jenny's story, it's so nice to see her getting a happy (yet short) end with Forrest catching up to her, being the most loving father to their son (:
Also at the end when Forrest walks away from Jenny's grave, he turns around one more time as birds fly off. Its a nice closure to her childhood trauma because she was always praying for god to turn her into a bird so she could fly away. In a way the birds are her spirit finding closure in her final moments, finally free to fly away.
Really such a beautiful movie.

Growing up in Canada physically disabled and seeing this on video for the first time at 12 years old shortly after it was released, I loved this movie. I'm still looking for my Jenny, though, all these years later. From a young age, I understood all the racial implications of movies, having seen Mississippi Burning when I was very young and watching a series on WWII about the Holocaust. If there's one way to get me emotional, show me people being abused or oppressed by bigots, because I'm white, but I've been bullied because of the way I walk. The irony of this movie is that while Forrest may have an academic disability, he understands a greater truth about humanity that most of the characters take years to understand. "Why are you so good to me?" "You're my girl." If you're good to him, he's good to you. And if you're not, he wants to know why because he might be able to fix it. His faith in humanity is unwavering.

Yo great reaction my friend. Shout out to you for understanding Jenny and realizing there was.a reason she acted like she did. I've seen so many reactors who just hate on Jenny without emphasizing with her. She was abused as a child so she could not accept the love that Forrest was trying to give her. We accept the love we think we deserve and Jenny felt she did not deserve Forrest in her life. Even though she told Forrest he did not know what love was, it was truly Jenny that didn't know what love was. How could she when the only love she ever received was from Forrest? Once she cleaned up and had a son, she finally felt she was ready to accept Forest's love.
I've watched so many Forest Gump reactions and I never get sick of it.
I recommend "Good Will Hunting" as well, another I never get sick of watching reactions to. You'll love Robin Williams' performance in it as the therapist

I think a lot of viewers miss/forget that Jenny's dad was sexually abusive to her and her sisters, not just a violent drunk. Her concept of love and intimacy was wounded from the start. I think that's why she felt so bad for Forrest in her dorm room and why she ran away after they had sex in his house. He's so innocent with that kinda stuff, like she was. For her, it's like they're repeating her childhood in reverse.

3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks.
4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that.
5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around.
6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date.

"In the original Winston Groom novel, Jenny dies of hepatitis C, discovered in 1989. In the film, written by Eric Roth, Jenny died on March 22, 1982.
It wasn't until an interview with Yahoo! News in 2019 that Roth clarified that, yes, in the film, Jenny did indeed die of AIDS.

Most people agree that Jenny has not only PTSD, but borderline personality (what happens when you'e subjected to repeat abuse during the formative years of life). She doesn't know how to receive love like Forrest's. In her life love was always associated with pain. She doesn't feel she deserves him-and so she pushes him away. Her asking to marry him in the end, many people see as selfish-but she wanted their son to be with him-and she wanted to be with him too.

Thank you for understanding Jenny's character, so mamy reactors just hate her because "you cant recognize a nice man that likes you" and that type of rhetoric. But its like you said, someone growing up in an abusive environment has no parameter. I imagine she saw him as the only good thing in her life and she didnt want to ruin it with all her mess. You just don't think you deserve love.

I'm 44 and I watched Forrest Gump the first time in my 8th grade Science class when it first came out. I have loved it ever since. I think it was so meaningful that as little girl Jenny asked Forest to pray that she could fly far far away. At end as he's walking away from her grave at tree, he turns around and the birds! Flying...symbolic
Have you watched 'Whale Rider'? It's s a beautiful movie set in New Zealand with the Maori people. It's about a little girl that must battle with her people's traditional beliefs. Another movie about destiny and not taking no for an answer. Think you will love it.
