The Rocky films are less about fighting and more about their love story and how her love, her sometimes tough love, and even her stubbornness, her support, it serves to guide him and make everything possible for him, and that theme gets stronger with each film. Adrian is everything.

@@CristyReactsat the time I'm making this comment I just started watching the reaction and your opening question that you googled was is this based on a true story! It said yes and this is the story!!
First let me say I grew up in a town called Bayonne New Jersey which is in Northeast New Jersey and right smack in the middle of "Sopranos country"!!😮😅
There was a regional champion heavyweight boxer from Bayonne by the name of Chuck Werner!!
NOW the situation did not happen the SAME way it happens in the movie BUT Chuck Wepner got the opportunity, in 1975, to fight Muhammad Ali for the heavyweight championship of the world!!
In the media, Chuck Wepner was called the "Great White Hope" but his nickname was the "Bayonne Bleeder"!
He got that nickname because he was very easy to cut and he bled very often during his fights!!
As in the movie it was a 15 round bout!! And also as in the movie Chuck knocked Muhammad Ali down very early in the fight!! The fight went into the 15th round before Ali ended it with a knockout!!
Chuck Wepner's face looked very much like Sylvester Stallone's face at the end of the fight in this film!!
In the crowd that night sitting ringside was Sylvester Stallone himself!!
He was so inspired by what he had just witnessed that he immediately went home and finished his script for this film!!❤❤❤
For many years Sly denied Chuck Wepner the appreciation and EVEN credit for having inspired him!! But at some point later down the line they reconciled and he DID give Chuck Wepner the credit he deserved!!
There's actually a great film about Chuck Wepner starring Leif Shriver (Ray Donovan) portraying Chuck Wepner!!
Anyway that's the story and I'm sticking to it😅😅

2:45 No, Rocky is not directly based on a true story, but it was inspired by real-life events. The character of Rocky Balboa was loosely based on the career and fights of Chuck Wepner, a lesser-known boxer who competed against heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali in 1975. Wepner fought Ali for 15 rounds, despite the odds, and became a hero to many. Sylvester Stallone was inspired to write the script for Rocky after watching the fight

In American Football (National Football League - NFL), back in 1965 thru 1973, there was this player for the Chicago Bears named Richard "Dick" Butkus. He was a rough & tumble defensive linebacker who played well and helped the Bears win championships. Every tough guy in America wanted to be like Dick Butkus. The dog playing in this movie was Sylvester Stallone's real-life dog, whom he named Butkus. Because he was a no-name in Hollywood at the time, Stallone had to sell Butkus to get the money to make this movie. After the movie did well, and Stallone was a big name in Hollywood, he went back and bought Butkus from the guy he sold him to. Butkus lived with Stallone for the rest of his life.

Rocky knew he didn't have the skills to beat Apollo, but he knew he had the heart to keep going for the entire fight. No fighter had ever finished a fight with Apollo; he had knocked every one of them out so going the distance with Apollo was a big accomplishment.
VERY IMPORTANT: when they talk about stopping the fight or throwing in the towel, it means they think the fighter can't defend themselves any more and want to give up before the fighter gets seriously hurt.

Nowadays, people take pride in being a bum and living off of the efforts of others, handouts and government programs meant for those who CAN'T work.

Some context about the boxing scenes, since you arent very familiar with the sport:
A championship fight back then was 15 rounds, today it is 12.
One round is 3 minutes, and theres a 1 minute rest period in between rounds.
If noone is knocked out, then three judges will decide who won on points.
Creed predicted he would knock Rocky out within 3 rounds, but was obviously underestimating how tough Rocky would be.
You asked why the referee separated the fighters. It was because the round was over. No fighting allowed when that bell rings to signal the end of the round.
Creed won a "split decision", meaning that two of the judges saw him as the winner, while one judge saw Rocky as the winner. In other words, it was a very close fight, but Rocky did lose.
When Mick tells Rocky to stay down, its because he doesnt want Rocky to get hurt anymore and just take the loss. It was a gruelling fight and both corners considered stopping the match. A cornerman has the right to "throw in the towel" in other words to stop the fight if they think their fighter is taking too much punishment. That would mean their fighter loses, which is why both Rocky and Creed are so oposed to the idea.
About why Mick wanted Rocky to "lay off that pet shop dame": There used to be a belief among athletes that sex would drain you of energy, testosterone etc. And you should not have sex during training leading up to a big event. This was believed not only by boxers, but athletes in all kinds of sports.

      @patfleming6103 29 дней назад

@@tomharrison6607 Despite extensive research and studies into the topic, the exact cause of a stitch still isn’t clear. Many reasonable explanations have been put forward, all of which have some evidence to support them.
Here’s a summary of some of the most common theories -
Some people believe that a decrease in blood flow to the diaphragm is the main cause of a stitch. Your diaphragm is the muscle which expands your lungs to allow you to breath, and exercising increases the demand placed on it, therefore causing localised irritation and pain.
Another possible explanation is that a stitch is your ligaments and the membrane (which hold and connect all of the various muscles, bones and organs inside the abdomen) ‘tugging’. The impact and movement during physical activity pulls the organs in your abdomen downwards, tugging on the ligaments in the upper abdomen and thus causing irritation.
Others believe that stitches are caused by irritation of the spinal column. This line of reasoning suggests the pain caused from a side stitch is a result of applying pressure to the vertebrae along the upper spine, and those with a more sharply curved upper spine are particularly prone to suffering from them.
Failing to warm up correctly and eating and drinking inappropriately are also thought to increase the possibility of causing a stitch.

Sly Stallone has written a Rocky 7 screenplay, a prequel focusing on Rocky's teenage years set during the early 1960's. He's been trying to pitch it to Irvin Winkler, producer of the previous Rocky films.

The Liberty Bell is from the State House in Pennsylvania. It got famous for it's ringing to gather the citizens to hear the first reading of the Declaration of Independence. It was still called the State House Bell though. Abolitionists adopted the bell as their symbol later on and they are the ones that named it "The Liberty Bell". The big crack that rendered it unringable happened on Washington's birthday. It only rings once a year now. It's given a slight tap every year on Martin Luther King Jr's birthday at the request of his widow. It's a universal American symbol of freedom.

What does Butkus mean? Dick Butkus was a middle linebacker (in American football, a defensive player responsible for stopping runs as well as tackling pass receivers anywhere on the field) for the Chicago Bears in the 60s and early 70s. Toughest player you ever saw. He was the most feared tackler in the NFL. He had a technique where he could "cock" his shoulder and then hit you with it like a fist. According to Hall of Famer, Deacon Jones: "Dick was an animal. I called him a maniac. A stone maniac. He was a well-conditioned animal, and every time he hit you, he tried to put you in the cemetery, not the hospital." For a bulldog, Butkus would be a name used to denote high respect.

Boxing 101: knocked down for 10 seconds is a knock out, but if you are obviously knocked unconscious, the ref will end it immediately without counting. A round is 3 minutes, and in Rocky they go for 15 rounds ( modern boxing usually don't go this many rounds). If there's no knockout, there are 3 judges that keep a scorecard for the whole fight. The end of Rocky was a split decision, so 2 judges said Creed and 1 said Rocky.

Not really based on a true story, but based on a certain fighter who went the distance with Muhammad Ali. The dog in the cage is actually Sylvester Stallone's dog. When Rocky is walking home and those people are singing, the guy singing the song is Sylvester Stallone's brother… Frank Stallone. The guy ringing the bell at the big fight at the end is Sylvester Stallone's father. When Gazzo pulls out his inhaler that actually happened. The actor had an asthma attack. Instead of stopping the scene, he just reacted, pulled out his inhaler, did it and then continued down with the scene. Talia Shire had the flu during the kissing scene. And then Sylvester Stallone got very sick.

This love letter to underdogs everywhere is Cinderella with boxing gloves.
A romance disguised as a boxing movie.
Maybe the most sentimental film ever made.
Apollo won, but it really didn't matter.
Rocky went the distance, and he conquered his self-doubt, and found his self-esteem.
    He also wins Adrian's heart.
Rocky was the first winner of the Best Picture Oscar that ended with the line,
    "I love you."
    It was fitting.

Rocky is NOT based on a true story, it's a fictional story. Seriously don't trust Google A.I.. Stallone wrote the screenplay for Rocky in three and a half days, shortly after watching the championship match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner. Despite the match motivating Stallone to begin work on Rocky, he has denied Wepner provided any inspiration for the script. Other inspiration for the film may have included characteristics of real-life boxers Rocky Marciano and Joe Frazier, as well as Rocky Graziano's autobiography. Wepner sued Stallone, and eventually settled for an undisclosed amount.

Because America's work ethic was stronger in the 1970's and because more people took pride in whatever work they did back then - calling a NON boxer a "bum" was insulting because it was the same as calling them "lazy" (no work ethic, and no dignity). A BOXER being called a "bum" even today - means their record is no good and their career is going nowhere.

We need Paulie to serve as a foil for Rocky's character. For those who don't remember high school English, a foil character is a literary device that contrasts with another character to highlight their traits.
No insult is intended by my providing the definition. I teach this stuff for a living. Not everyone does.

BOXING 101... each round is 3min, Championship fights used to be 15 rounds but are 12 today (for safety) You win by Knock Out or decision by 3 Judges. The Judges score each round 10pts to the winner & 9 or less to the loser, because each time your Knocked down you lose a point,
In this fight 2 out of the 3 Judges gave *Apollo Creed* more points & the 3rd Judge had them tied or Rocky winning so *Apollo Creed WON by Majority Decision*
