See, I disagree on the SCX24. I like that they kept the basic platform the same for parts interchangeability and building platforms. For straight building it’s the best IMO. It’s all what you do with em I guess.
The Frankenstein builds are not for everyone and it’s a whole new can of worms as far as parts/upgrades and learning all those those. For me, I just haven’t wanted to go that route.
100% agree.
If it wasn’t dog bones, worm gears and completely useless electronics I would totally agree. We don’t need change with every release but at this point it’s like buying a nitro truck from the early 2000s while others are releasing brushless rtrs lol
Whether you drive them till they break and replace the part, or find them needy out of the box and use 3rd party upgrade parts, or comp and surf the current state of the art, the hobby has you covered.
Couldn’t agree more dude. I’m doing my first custom build and have had more set backs than I anticipated. I’m just enjoying the process and look at it as an opportunity to learn 🤙
I'm waiting for my super 8 axles to get here , I'm building a Dementer V dub , I'm really looking forward to start the build , loving your videos , stay safe mate 🇬🇧
The downhill twitch happened on my stock scx24 axles too. It's not the axle though. Try turning your drive shaft around with the sleeved side attached to the axle. It worked on mine.
Awesome video, love the look of that crawler, very well thought out where you cut that body, looks awesome! My girls lost their minds that the cat was back on the course, they think that is just the most hilarious thing ever!
Haha! Love it! He’s pretty much always out there with me. Thanks for watching!
The little stutter when going down hill is front to back play in the worm gear. Ive had to shim them up with thicker o-rings untill the worm cant shift back and forth in the housing and that has fixing it for me.
Nice! Crazy I haven’t really had that issue before this build.
Yep! Shim for the win!
Man the shiftrc wheels are just killer! I love the black face with the pink ring
Yeah I wish they came with options instead of just buying both sets to mix up.
ISO’s are the best looking 24 scale axles hands down. Super 8’s just look like shiny stock replacements lol.
The relocated link n shock mounts make it amazing. But a stock ISO with all that brass on the front axle is just 🤌 all depends on the build
Looks great 👍 i have 2 rigs with all plastics underneath they are just like butter on the rocks
Was finally able to get a set of these, be here Monday, and am planning on dropping them onto a LGRP Ripper chassis. Did I see in your short that we still need to swap the front and rear gears still today. Not a big deal but after the problem was identified months ago you would think that they could have got things straight with the manufacturer and it be right on this batch. Any experience with the nylon portals from Mazz Designs. They look like a possible option to SCX axles. Take care Matt and thanks for sharing, good and not so good.
I’ve had these super 8s for a good bit so they may be fixed at this point. Hopefully if you don’t have a note in with your axles that means you’re good to go. I don’t remember a note with mine but they still needed switched. I actually picked up a set of those nylon axles from MofoRC back when they dropped and I’ve just never ran them. I think they are the same exact axles. The ones I got from him had dog bones and I was going to swap them out for cvds but ended up never installing them. They feel pretty nice though and I bet they would slide great on the rocks.
Nice work Matt! A little glue and some rubber bands fixes a lot, but apparently not scx axles. This is a great build, and looks good. I say overpower it to the max and see how much punishment it will take!
And here lady n gents we have the 2fm kitty, rare breed really likes rocks😅😅
Haha! He’s always out there with me on the rocks!
If your after wheel speed and smooth try a downgrade. I went back to a injora red paired with a furitek python pro. Best change I've ever made and super quiet.
That transition at 2:42 was smooth AF, also if you throw the DJ tyres on that you'll have more speed, my GF's ax24 skips like that going downhill as well, I just assumed it was the worm gear moving in the axles that caused it, maybe shim or O-ring?
And i agree no matter how nice they are, theyre still worm gear axles. We have the capability of having the ring gear axles that work in this scale. The ring gear axles are just better, cooler, and more scale. FMS seems to be doin the damn thing though, not only are they good axles but their trucks are all pretty damn good. even the furitek one lol.
I agree about the scx24. I have 4 & 2 have like $5-600 or more into them, they are built right & very good. I bought a couple of fcx24 power wagons put wheels tires,MCcues rear links, servo & they walk all over my high dollar scx24’s! Axial just needs to get rid of the worm gears!!
Really looking forward to you getting time in with the CR18P axles. I know you like the FCX axles-CRs have metal gears and seem to have just a touch more steering angle as well.
What’s crazy is I get slightly more turning with the fcx axles after moving the screw and modding them slightly. Plus I have Od gears for those axles lol. Once we get od for the cr18p axles I’ll put some more time in with them & possibly use on some builds lol
@@2fmrcGetting OD for these CR18P axles will be a definite game changer! Looking forward to what all this platform can do once the aftermarket finds it.
Slayers rule the rocks 🤘🔥🔥🔥😎👍
Would you want to sell the big wheels and hangers? Love your videos your the only reason I keep notifications on for RUclips keep up the good work. You got me putting fcx24 axles under my next build. 🤙🏻
I will be selling them. Shoot me an email if you want. I’ll be out of town for a bit but when I get back we could definitely work something out I’m sure. I really appreciate the sub and bell. Means the world to me 🙏
Yeah, suff never goes easy with these builds!! 😂 troubleshooting and patience is the name of the game baby! I really like the S8s, great steering and no scrub. And like you say, they look clean and are nice and sleek. Haven’t ordered the new Mofo X15s yet. I need to figure out a build for those. Cheers!😊
Yeah I’m not sure what I’m putting the mofos on yet either but maybe I’ll just start a new build lol
@@2fmrc that’s what I always do! 😊
The Hardpark axles(+10 per side, splined housing for adjustable caster and grade 5 titanium universals) are going to be the king of worm gear axles once they release, to bad worm gears suck 🤣I haven't touched my scx24's since the trx4m came out.
I’ve been waiting for those for 2 yrs now. They’ll need to be redesigned by the time they release lol. Part of it though. I know Chad has put a ton of work into those. I was very excited for them but at this point I don’t think I’ll be buying anymore worm gear axles. I just got the MofoRC ones and kinda wish I had saved that money lol
Hey got a question trx4m or furitek fury? I just got the Fury got it for 180 and overnight shipping !! Just hope aftermarket stuff comes out. Also love the vids
Definitely the Fury! You did well lol
@@2fmrc cool thanks I value your opinion. Man I hope the aftermarket parts come out even just a tranny with mount for komodo/mini or even just a mount. Looks like the mini komodo might bolt up just haven't had time to try. That might be a good video especially if it's does mount up hint hint lol.
100% on point!
5:15 isnt that a matter of style, i never need "wheelspeed to hop over stuff" - barely get out of FOC mode with my Furitek motors because thats what i enjoy. Thought the same in that video where you broke three axles in a couple of minutes, might as well throw it against a wall, i prefer my crawlers to crawl, stay on the ground. 3:29 I desagree, hate that greyish colour, would prefer black or maybe raw aluminium. Also the wider lower link mounts cause problems because they make the lower links shorter compared to the upper. (Anywhere but on LGRPs own chassis that has wider distance mounts on the skid.)
It’s definitely a matter of styles. If you don’t do many hops or jump lines the drag of the worm gears really isn’t as big of an issue. I just like to be able to do it all lol
No more scx24 base builds for me, now there are other plataforms that are better options. Tired of broken scx24 stuff. Greatings for Spain great videos as allways
Same here! I feel like if I’m building an scx24 build I just know it’s going to be slightly behind my others no matter what I do. Why even go that route lol. Spain?! That’s awesome! Really appreciate ya!
Yeah I totally agree with this video the scx24 drivetrain is outdated, I regret my last build tbh. Even all the parts in general are just thin and flimsy feeling. I dont even like the look of portals but my trx4m builds will do the same lines and parts are beefier and truck just looks mean. Only thing is the low hanging skid. Hopefully the 18p platform takes off with the release of the fx118 also another good platform if we had more upgrade options! Great videos as always bro 👊
Yeah I would probably build quite a few builds with the Trx4m axles if I didn’t hang that front diff on everything lol
The super wheel trend is not my flavor but I agree that those injora chyrax are perhaps the best tire I ever came across
Totally agree. I love those tires. Probably my favorite all around tire
Yep had same issue with downhill twitch, pretty much exactly what this rig just did, long story and full breakdown of the drive train proved to be a bent motor pinion shaft, micro komodo. I'm pretty keen to run FCX axles on my scx24 what's involved with fitting them?
Dang! Could be that for sure. Micro Komodo in this one. I’m probably going to pull it for something with more power anyway so I’ll find out. Appreciate the info. Mostly just getting links to work with the fcx axles and scx24 skid. So some threaded links that you can swap the rod ends on helps. I usually make my own just because they will be slightly differently lengthwise than most links just to get upper and lower working correctly.
@@2fmrcthank you for sharing the info! does the servo mount the same?
Built not bought I will take a Frankenstein build over rtr any day 🔥🔥🔥😎👍
Tell you what I done with mine I made mind about the same width as a portal axle from treal cuz I like the idea of having the with but I don't want to be too wide you know what I mean it does help with running the 1.8 switch I'm in contact with KS customs right now about getting some of their cut and shuts because honestly my personal opinion the 1.8 they're just too much will you get buried up in rock so bad they bind a lot I mean yeah begot a smooth path up over something and no Jag😮 but do when you get into the like serious nasty stuff you can really get hung up
Yeah I think they bind up like crazy also. The scx24 axles really can’t handle them either.
How is the axle limiting your speed? Just drop a tooth on the pinion or something.
I can but it’s still nothing compared to ring and pinion gears. You always have a constant drag on the worm gears. So even though you have more wheel speed your pop isn’t anywhere near as good.
Let's freaking go look at that view count bro in one day
@2FM RC you should try the Furitek Mini Godzilla with the Mofo X15s
Got the cedar on them now and pretty happy with it! Running the 33%od from mofo
@@2fmrc I run the Cedar most of the time, but it's fun to turn a crawler into a bouncer and just send it, the mofo axles are the only ones that can withstand that kind of abuse.
@@texavon6168 yeah that’s why I have my bouncers on the fcx axles lol
@@2fmrc fair enough
keep speaking the truth. I've been criticized plenty for my strong opinions about a rig in this hobby. I just didn't engage with them. If your truth can't be handled by others, its other's issues and their low EQ.
Now, this vid is beyond what I do in this hobby but you had some good info here to help, but also keep talking about whatever is important to you and how you feel about the rig, the hobbys and those you engage with.
Really appreciate that. Definitely gonna keep doing what I do. All I know lol
Haha, the 🐈! Classic cat.
It's an outdated concept. Losi started to become outdated and they discontinued the line. Axial needs a major overhaul or needs to do the same.
I agree. I think axial did it originally in the scx because the 1/24s hadn’t took off. So they could use worm gears with bad electronics and get a decent slow crawl and no1 would care. The 1/24s have came a long way over the last few years and now they really need to rethink the scx24. But people keep buying them the way they are so they won’t change it. Why would they? They can do nothing and still make money by swapping bodies lol
Or just play with what you have, i think they are awesome, even the stock SCX24 is aweseome fun.
@@snörre23 some of the best fun is taking a stock truck and just seeing what’s possible. BUT when you get out with some buddies who have those modded rigs you wanna be the king of the hill 😆
they do indeed look the quality they are, but i cant get behind the battery on axle thing, its just ugly.
I’m not a huge fan either. Only on builds I feel like are just naturally gonna be ugly and cramped for space inside the cab lol
I get it for a full performance rig. Its hard to argue with the performance of setup that @TexomaRc has with his chassis that has that.@@2fmrc
You nelled it right on the money when it comes to us Frankenstein builders it a whole new world. You visualize it then you create. Booohhhaahaaa
Yeah it unlocks an entire new level of performance! It’s the crawler cheat code lol
Let me know when you want to sell it!
🌞 🌺💨 🌞 🌺💨 🌞 🌺💨
Love it!
@@2fmrc too bad emoji’s are copyrighted..would make a great t-shirt!
@@robbinthehood94 exactly what I was thinking lol
dude, get some better tires. those hyrax clones are absolute garbage. that's the main problem with this rig. put some comp pins or mud studs on. there's zero sidewall compression on those.
These aren’t the original hyrax clones. They are the 64mm Injora. Trust me they are the best tires of any tire on this course. I’ve ran them all lol. These also have flubs in them which is why they don’t seem to compress as much. I usually try to run a size smaller flubs than what they recommend because imo the size they usually recommend don’t work all that well. Tires aren’t stopping it from having wheel speed though. It just has no pop with scx axles.
well, you know your course. my super light AX24 rig loves the mudstuds. but my heavy trx4m can't climb with anything but comp pins.
@@ericmyers1306yeah on this course the more meat they have the worse they perform lol. The pins are solid but still not as good as these, the dj 68s or trenchers.
