    One thing to think about with regards to your rear width is doing what the 1:10 scale comp crawlers do. Maintain a wide width for the front axle so you can have that extra reach for grabbing ledges, but keep the back narrow so that it's easier to navigate through a gate. Sometimes when you're working through a gate, a narrow track in the rear would help you to push through a gate clean.
    Would be cool if Mofo eventually offered single complete axles. I would like to have a front axle to put on my comp rig and retain the stock axle in the rear.

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  10 месяцев назад +1

      That’s actually how this truck has been set up for a good while. Just a bit more narrow in the rear. Works great like you explained. I rarely ever run gates so figured I’d go ahead and widen it up a bit.

    castor is the term you are looking for.
    Some axles have the outer carrier mounted on the axles with splines so the caster angle can be adjusted by rotating the carrier with respect to the axle housing.

  • @patrickgeorge4306
    @patrickgeorge4306 10 месяцев назад +2

    Awesome video. Love the clocked design giving more caster, and that steering angle is just unreal. Even just rolling the front axles back on my SCX and FCX to gain caster makes a huge difference, but these X15's are like next level!

  • @MrsRabbit8
    @MrsRabbit8 4 месяца назад +1

    Yeah, these are gonna be perfect!
    My build is going to be 1/18, so the need for some wideners won't be a problem.
    I haven't looked at what Mofo has avaliable, but if he doesn't have 1/18 axles then these will do great with wideners for sure.
    I hope the link helps you out, I'll be buying these soon.

    Dang it Matt! Every video I watch slaps me square in the wallet! These do look fantastic for a comp crawler etc. Thankfully not every build will actually need them. They do present an ideal use case, and also point towards other manufactures improving their products. I'd love to see the beefy internals fitted inside something like the Super8, just for the reliability.

    If I could and I were to design a front axle I would want to try to make the c hub and the steering linkage have enough clearance to run REALLY narrow offset tires if the customer wanted (meaning wheels that make the track width as narrow as possible, I probably used the wrong terminology)
    Everyone's experiences vary but I feel like when I use wheels that use a lot of offset and stick out far like deep dishes it makes me get caught up all the time on c hubs which frustrates me.

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  7 месяцев назад +1

      Overall I think I like the cheat code better but I prefer the longer length of this setup. The way I built my cheat code it’s very short and struggles with some uphill stuff just do to it being so short. Both are great options though

    @wingnutbert9685 8 месяцев назад

    Hey Matt. Great vid! Couple questions I'd like you're thoughts on regarding "why" and "if possible...."
    ???: The upper and lower tabs, coming off the hub to hold the steering link, wheel to wheel; Any reason there are upper and lower tabs? Without having them in my hand,of course, it looks like the lower tabs could be deleted and have the link ends just sitting on the screw head, maybe with a brass or nylon washer to lessen friction. I know you said you liked the way the link mounts (no need for the "O" rings) But shaving off those lower tabs would gain clearance, I think. Conversely, couldn't the top tab be deleted to gain that wheel clearance issue you had, without having to use extension hex's?
    ???: Also, the small "S" arms that come out from the axle, top and bottom, and hold the hub; Is there any reason for them to be as wide apart as they are? Again, without them in my hand to look at, I'm just spit-ballin'. But couldn't they be at least half that width apart. The tube sections coming off the hub are really long and don't look necessary. Would certainly make for a better fit inside more sizes and styles of wheel.
    Thanks Matt!

    • @2fmrc
      @2fmrc  8 месяцев назад +1

      The only issue with cutting the tabs off like that is the link is only supported on one side so when it takes a hard hit it can sometimes break the screw off that is holding the links on. I’ve had it happen to some bashers that were made that way. Doubt the crawlers would take the beating the basher took but I could definitely see it happening if hit just the wrong way.

    • @wingnutbert9685
      @wingnutbert9685 8 месяцев назад

      @@2fmrc Thanks Matt. Thinking with crawler brain, not basher brain! LOL! I guess maybe if designed with a heavier screw maybe. I just thought it looked a bit overkill. But, I also hadn't considered manufacturing/milling production factors. Smaller/thinner = more chance of failure during production. Vibration alone could bust parts in the milling fixture.
