old model railroading days, used coffee grounds glued down makes some good dirt surface, wet with wood glue and pack it with dry grounds, let dry and brush away excess. leave bare, paint, or clear coat?
The course looks great and shows a lot of great work and prep by the group hosting the event. Your truck looked very good and I thought it performed very well. It was interesting to me to see how these competitions are set up. Thanks for sharing.
You're such a daredevil. Be careful with those Micro Crawlers. They can cause grown men to get competitive and angry, sometimes to pee their pants. lol
My brother is interested in crawlers. After this video, it's definitely got me thinking about getting one. I quite like the body that you did not use. My other brother is giving me a VW Bug and some other RC cars. I plan to restore them one at a time.
I have that same body in the garage. I dont know why I haven't swapped onto my FCX24!!!! Man it looks so cool!!! 👍👍👍 Iceberg makes some killer bodies. I bought their jeep Cherokee and Comanche!!!
My son and I make our mini crawler courses out of wood (cheap cedar fence planks) and we just slather the face of the wood with wood glue and dust some rocky gravel over it. We live in the desert so we use decomposed granite. It works amazingly and holds up really well. You.can use play sand but it just makes sandpaper and there's nothing that loses grip on that.
As far as the sand on your mini course. Mix a thin watery slurry of “mod podge” and paint it onto the plaster cloth then sprinkle sand onto it and rewet and slosh around with wet brush painting with sand and it will dry to a perfect sandpaper sandstone texture!
Great video, great looking course, and looked like a fun day! I have to get out of my house and get social, despite my nature, LOL. Thanks for taking us with you!
That girl at the end with the Land Rover was so into it very serious looks. But enjoying it to the fullest for sure. Love your videos keep up the hard work.
Lest you forget, sir - You’re dealing with a bunch of RC dorks such as myself. 8 minutes of forward, reverse, forward, reverse? That’s what we call captivating cinema. Looks like a great little event! 🎉
couple years ago picked up a couple pre-painted poly truck bodies for Subotech 1/24 from BangBad for about 4 bucks each. nice detail light weight and convenient. one is on the Redcat Sumo 1/24 with wide offset "Dominator"(?) rims and same mud slinger tires. being AWS its a little extra fun sometimes with rear steer and crab options.
Your truck looks great. Thats a very cool modular portable course too. You own course is coming along. Get some cheap acrylic artist paints and dilute it so you can do colour washes. I save my coffee grounds and use white glue to hold it on. Also concrete powder sifted over white glue, dirt sand. It may scrup off as it would on a real course so you just reaply colour or dry materials as needed.
You likely have smaller gears in the front portals (12t?) and that is giving your front wheels overdrive. That is generally a desirable setup for comp crawling. It helps give you better turn radius and pulls the front up and over while also sucking your chassis down-ward. ;-)
That is a cool little rig the only thing I see that it needs is maybe drop the body 5 meal and the suspension 5 meal and possibly add the battery a little closer to the back and that thing would be a great beast on the rock
Yah big dope, USA1 should say USA on it somewhere, plus who doesn’t like a red, white and blue colour scheme 😊 Awesome compatition, it looks fantastic,i wudda loved to have a go at it.😊
Looks like a fun comp. I am wondering why you ran 3 tires backwards? Mud slingers are good, they are even better when custom cut. Basically there are big lugs with lines, small lugs with lines, and small lugs without lines. Use some wire side cuts to clip off all the small lugs without lines. The tight stock slinger tread pattern can sit on top of the terrain spinning. The more open pattern of custom cut slingers seems to grab better on both rock and loose soils. I would also highly suggest Treal brass portal covers for some low weight.
Can confirm the newer revision FCX24s come with the metal portal gears fitted. I bought one from Modelsport at the end of December, metal ports and the less good V2 transmitter. Still plenty of fun to drive though. The drive issue with the slack, I've got that both front and rear. Seems to just be play between all the gears, hexes, driveshafts etc. I'd love to know if there was a way to stop it. My car rolls back and forth maybe 20mm before the dragbrake/gearing engages and stops it rolling further. Great vid as always. I need to try out one of these competitions!
I’d love to see a video in the future of you mounting the Iceberg body to the FCX. I’ve been looking into getting one for my Max Smasher but wasn’t sure how best to mount it.
Try budgie grit instead sand,WIlko sell it, made from a mix of grits and crushed shell etc so it isn't all the same colour and size so looks better than straight sand.Used it a lot as the base for desert dioramas.
I had to shave it off. I kept getting loads of random kids shouting ‘Tumble Wumble’ at me while I was shopping … and I was only growing it for Christmas 🎅
Awesome stuff, been looking st getting crawler for the last 2 months ... can I decide what to get absolutely not, has this made me want one even more absolutely.
1/24 crawlers are most likely the only size crawlers I would be really curious of. Mainly because building tracks for them could be done inside the house. Thou I know what kind of looks I would get...and how that money would have.....should...yeah. But...some day....
I'm on the fence when it comes to picking one of these up. They don't seem to flex much at all. The portals seem to really push the center of gravity up. I know I'm a little biased, but I think you would have done much better with the scx.
@Tomley RC I need to go back and watch your scx24 upgrade video again. I don't remember what all you did to it. You already did the furitek brushless upgrade - that's the best upgrade you could do. You need some mofo rc ultra soft springs and 4 link the front. Then as m7ch brass as you can fit down low. I k ow you said you've spent $5-600... I assume you've done everything but the springs.

Grit sand from any building yard..when it's dried out it's the perfect stuff in my opinion 👍great little truck mate
