Black Friday brought me a Google home for 50% off and three minis @ $20 each. I have the hub in my living room, a mini in my bathroom and as mini in my bedroom (one will be gifted) and I AM ALL IN ON THE GOOGLE ASSISTANT. I even started using it, the assistant on my phone, to manage my music, messages and navigation in the car, I definitely feel like I haven't been using my phone and assistant to it's full capacity!
I love the shopping list feature. You just say "Hey google, add ____ to my shopping list" whenever you realize you're out of that thing. When you go shopping you just open the google home app and all of your items are listed.

Your smart home fu is weak. When I sit on the couch after I get home my google home starts the next episode of my favorite show, starts my coffee brewing, dims the lights, dispenses dog food, and turns the air down. I don't say a word.

There's "tell me about my day" and it rambles off all of that without having to do individual commands!
Had no idea about the find home feature, thanks. 👍🏻 I would add setting and checking the temperature, if you have a smart thermostat, in my top commands as well.
I recently found out that you can use multiple commands with the same "Hey/OK Google". To do multiple commands with your voice, simply use "AND" to connect the two statements. This will save you from having to say "Hey/OK Google" twice. I set up a shortcut for "Good Night" that triggers "turn off living room lights and turn off tv".
How do you setup the goodnight feature to turn off the lights and tv?
I like being able to put things on my shopping list. Also, playing music to put me to sleep and having it turn off after the amount of time that I ask it to stop playing. Being able to program shortcuts makes tasks more natural to command. The mini is amazing.
How do you broascast when you are away from home? Don't you need to be on the same wifi network as your devices?
I like to add a "set sleep timer for 45 minutes" when I do the white noise.
That works today. just say play white noise for 45 min. or say play white noise, then say hey google stop playing in 45 min or tell it the time it should stop
I have a Google Home Mini in the color coral. I got mine at Walmart for $20 because of Black Friday. If you bought it at Walmart you automatically got a $5 code to use on VUDU. Some of my problems I have noticed so far is when I say, "Ok Google call Mommy" it says, "creating a new contact for Call". So what I learned is that I needed to go into the Google Assistant app and search for contacts delete Call contact and add a contact for my mom. Then another issue is in the Google home app I have it linked to my Netflix and Roku. When I say "ok Google play The Office on Netflix" it turns on my Roku and goes to the Roku search engine and looks up The Office and then says it's not compatible with my Roku to be able to play The Office on Netflix. What Roku device does it Support?
Since I watch and listen to almost everything through headphones (television & computer included) I don't have to worry about other audio sources tripping my Google Home devices. Yet out of curiosity, since I programmed it for voice recognition, I tried it with open speakers and that would leave me to suspect that some of you skipped past that part of the setup.
Anyway, my favorite command is through the addition of compatible control device of room temperature/thermostat, It is "Hey Google! What's the current room temperature. Then second to that, Okay Google adjust it to ---- and alert me when room temperature is equal.
What can I say? I live above the 49th parallel and the winters are long and cold. I am all about comfort before leaving the confines of down filled quilts. It's not that the cold bothers me, it doesn't, but I'd rather it stays outside.
Turn on/of TV. Piano time (plays relaxing piano playlist on spotify on tv -shortcut). Set timer. Exit (if something is playing on chromecast and I want to return to chromecast backdrop without turning of the tv).Play/Pause. What time is {favorit sports team} playing.
Play recommended videos on youtube on tv (chromecast name) - short cut: RUclips time.

-The default "Good Morning" runs the device servie :My Day" which gives local weather and a selection of multiple News stations.
-Custom shortcuts (by editing the standard "Cheer me up") to play one of my Play Music Playlists, and saving them under one word names.
- A custom shortcut to play my favorite radio station with "Radio"
- "Add item to shopping list". These items need not be for shopping, but can be tasks, and the shopping list can be queried through Home. "What's on my list"

I use Hello to get my day. Made more sense to me than good morning. So at 5 o'clock I can hear what's on the evening calendar.
I use it for cooking all the time ... google set countdown timer for ... minutes.
Google home communicates with phone
You have changed your "Good Morning" command but by default it tells you the news and weather in your local area.
Hopefully they add the ability to broadcast to a specific google home/mini if you have multiple in your house.

You know you can now say.... let everyone know that dinner is ready and it works just like broadcast. Let every one know is the key word. Sounds more natural

I love my 2 Google home minis and waiting for the bigger Google assistant to arrive on order. Also ordered Google chromecast! So happy it's not Alexa, I did not want to be laughed at and I just prefer Google over that other "one".
Trying to watch this with a google home is a nightmare
I have been playing with my google mini for about a week now and I truly enjoy it. The one thing I would like to know more about is the alarm settings. Can you change the alarm tone and can you turn it off by hitting it?
You can shut off the home by tapping the top but not the mini. Google disabled the touch tap on the top. Only volume controls work with touch. I have not found a setting to change the Alarm
Voice command to turn off or snooze. Not sure about alarm tones.
You can have it use songs for your alarms if hooked up to Google play music.
We have a large family. I absolutely LOVE the broadcast feature.

There's also a command to set a sleep timer for any media (music, radio, podcast, relaxation sounds etc) so that it will auto stop at a certain time period.
And the kitchrn functionality is pretty useful, together with shopping list
When I use Google Assistant to add a Calendar Event my default notification settings are ignored - I cannot change it from 15 minutes before despite it been set to 1 hour before and asking the Assistant to remind me 1 hour before - which it confirms it will do.
Pro tip: don't include the trigger words in your videos, it turned off my TV while I was watching your video :)
Mate B. Lol RUclips videos used to always do the same to my Google devices but it hasn't happened in a long long time. It made me think that it had gotten a lot better recognizing my voice

Dominic Lowrey you have to have your Chromecast and Google home all connected to the same wifi Network. The command sequence should be similar to this:
Okay Google - turn on(off) -. Living room (say exact name of the Chromecast you wish to turn on or off your tv). That's it.
Okay Google turn off master bedroom.

Why do my settings on the Home app look different? Seems like I don't have as many options settings wise. I only own the Google Home Mini, could that be why?
It’s because this video is over a year old. The app has updated since. I just got mine for Christmas ‘18. So I found that you keep in mind how old these tutorials videos are because many things are changed.

I use it to turn off my tv often. I also use it to play my "songs for babies on RUclips". My son loves that. I check the time a lot as well plus everything you just did.
Anyone know if you can set a reminder for another user on your Google mini network i.e. family member at your house.
Is it possible to fade lights on and off instead of instantly on/off ? Or can that be done with smart lights
You can if the bulb supports it. The Phillips one support that feature but they are expensive. Check out this link for several that I have used. amzn.to/2jMGln7 some start at 19 a bulb but can go up to 60 bucks. Just make sure it says its google supported. You can even change the colors. So would say "Hey Google, dim the lights to 50 percent". or create a shortcut that would do this. "Hey Google it's yoga time!" the shortcut would set the lights to 30% and even change the colors the color of your choice.

You can rewind and fast forward whatever is playing on Chromecast. Just say rewind for 30 seconds.
I have a 5 year and love the bedtime stories. "hey Google, tell us a bedtime story" and it pulls up a story from StoryNory love the broadcast as well.
Very frustrating that you left 'ok Google' in your video... My device kept telling me that it 'couldnt verify my voice' so disruptive that I couldn't complete your video...just thought you might like to know

Knowing that key words will activate my Google Home Mini system I listened to EBPMAN videos with a headset. Simple, no unanticipated activations.
I can't find the broadcast feature. Is it in the google home App or the assistant. I've looked everywhere.
Just say the word broadcast, then your message. You can also type the word into assistant, followed by message.

nice vid, I have an echo Dot, and it works for me, They are both very similar, the mini and dot, I picked the amazon product, because I do order a lot from them, and the aux jack on the dot seems like a easier solution to hook up any device too it. I do think the looks of the mini are better. I do automation and I started making my home smarter. Now I am tied to google services also, and my dot can read my calendar and make schedule events, Now that the price points are both good it is starting to catch on, now can see that the next big thing is going to be tablets, with these services, kinda like the show but with a bigger screen. I really would like to see holograms, that pop out of the dot or mini and show tutorials on how to cook or timers counting down, in 10 years we will look back at these devices and laugh.

My mini is plenty loud for a bedroom.... Just say "OK Google, turn volume up 100%" or tap on the left or right side for volume up and down.

The full size Google Home is also very loud with three speakers built in instead of one.
Bochin FTW when you get the chromecast audio you plug the aux cable into your any speaker with an aux input, you use the Google home app to connect to the Chromecast audio, you can set it up to work with the assistant. If you get one and still have questions I can help.
I have a echo never tried the Google Home but which is better in confused
I prefer the google product. I have had the show, echo and echo dot. My dot was in a drawer until I got this product to review. Music is much better and home automation is catching up. I dont purchase via my dot or mini
I have the Amazon Fire Stick it does the same thing the echo show besides video calling but I heard Google mini is pretty sweet at 29 dollars might try out the Google Home
Google is blocking much of the content to amazon products. No youtube on the show and I would guess that other things will get blocked. The world runs on google search engine you know.

Can you command mini to play music on your phone and connect your phone to a better Bluetooth speaker. I know it sounds awkward but it really isn't a good speaker. I heard it can't connect via Bluetooth to other devices

Omri Kehat yes u should be able too. I know with my echo dot I can. I have the echo dot setup with my surround sound. Try looking it up on RUclips also check the user manual of the speaker u want it to connect too.
The way google recommends to do it is to get the Chromecast audio dongle (kind of like the regular Chromecast except audio only and has a mini jack instead of an HDMI connector). It's $35 - which is a lot. But it should have higher audio quality than Bluetooth and will work with anything with a minijack input - not just bluetooth speakers.
My mini automatically plays my music on a Sony speaker I have with built in Chromecast. I set this up in the home app.
Yes you can and you can connect and dissconect by voice command. Great for multiroom setup. Only problem cannot play simulataneous

Brad Gray Home uses google search engine. Echo uses Bing search engine. I use google search so I like the Home.

Just launch the google assistant on your phone by either saying "Ok google", pressing down on your home button, or clicking on the assiant app you can download then say "broadcast" and your message. This doesn't work if you click the microphone in the search bar that just searchs the web on your phone.
you can also type any message with broadcast at the beginning and then it will be broadcast with google assistant's voice rather than an audio playback (it's generally clearer)

No it can only be used at best buy, either in store or online. If I remember there were also a couple of other places that had a similar sale, at least on black friday.
