Square body 56” spring swap & shackle flip bracket

- This week we upgrade the rear suspension on (DECAY) our 73' chevy K20, by swapping in some 56" rear springs, build a pair of rear shackle flip brackets and a pair of 2” shackles. I set the rear springs up with 4 leaves and the overload which was cut down to a lift block. Overall with the weight of the bed we wound up with just over 3" of lift, which leveled out the truck. #4x4build #4x4 #k20 #chevy #offroad #k10 #56”swap

I have a 1979 K30 4x4 . I've owned for 25 years . I just went through.
Cool, a real part of the family. What all did you do to your K30?
@@Farm10customs floors , rockers , cab corners , and front fenders . 8 inch lift useing ORD parts . Cross over stearing. 5.13 gears and grizzly lockers front and rear. It still has a GM Goodwrench 300 h.p. small block that I put in many years ago. I have a 426 h.p. 454 waiting . But work and kids I dont have time to tear into it till summer
Dang! Sounds like you have made a very capable rig. Good choice on upgrades. Work always gets in the way, But necessary. Can’t live with it, can’t live without it. Hahaha 😂 Enjoy the ride my friend.
Could you explain more about the spring conversion. Where did you get them are they factory springs so on and so forth
Hi there,Yes, I can. These are factory springs, the rear springs I used came out of the rear of an 89’ suburban. The front springs came out of the rear of my pickup, which all work fine for budget and light duty. I did just swap out my front springs because I over flexed the and they got bent. Trying different amounts of leaves but in the end they really haven’t cost me anything yet. I hope this answers your question. Let me know
@Farm10customs absolutely, thanks for the info. I mostly have older Ford pickups but recently acquired a 82 chevy short bed 4x4 and it's really only good for a mud toy
@Heath_Fann
That’s why my old Chevy became my off road rig. The body was a little too far gone, but not too far for fun. It’s nice having a pickup like that or like your 82’ that you can have fun without worrying about the paint. No guilt.
I planned on copying the off-road designs shackle flip but I think I like your design more. You musta went to drafting school or some other engineering school cause the only other people I know that draw out things on orthographic projection are of some design background. Now I just need to borrow a buddy’s finger break
Well thank you for your kind words. If you’re interested I can email you a picture of my template with the dimensions. If so use my email address in my info. It’s great to have buddies with the tools you need. Best of luck my friend
@@Farm10customs that would be super generous I sent you an email
Check your email. I finally got the information for you. I’m sure happy with my setup. I hope this works for you.
What springs did you use? I have 56" on my Blazer, but they are too soft. Looking for some alternatives.
Hi Josh, I hope this is useful. I used 52” 3/4 ton rear spring packs and pulled all but 3 long springs plus cut over load (zero rate) spring for the front, and the rear I used 56” 3/4 ton packs and used 4 springs and the overload (zero rate spring) per pack. And I’m still not sure if it’s soft enough. I’m setting this up for off road and not necessarily for the street. Thanks for asking and Good luck with your project my friend.
