It's an honor to have a window into you living your dream. That you share your journey with all of us is just out of this world. Thank you GT. You are awesome.
I love the story of your teachers telling you and your friend to go out into the hallway, so that they can teach the other kids!.I had a disruptive student who played drums. I told him " Bring a drum or two in, we will play" First day we walks in with a snare and hi hat.... Next day i see him walking down the street with a bass drum. Over a two week period , he brought his entire kit in and took over my classroom. We set it up in the corner. After that, i made a deal with him, if he behaved and did his work, we would jam on Fridays after school. I'd bring in my guitar or bass, and jam we did. I had a ball with that kid! Most weeks he behaved, some not. Later on, we got a kid on bass , another kid on guitar, a few that wanted to sing, and we put a few songs together. One of the most fulfilling semesters i ever had. The power and beauty of music!
I was a child of the seventies. That was the best time.
Music is much more than just learning chords and riffs, it is a journey and it is your story, Mine started 1970 and at 66 years old it isn't quite over yet, it's been quite a ride.
You are a musician, a story teller and part of teaching music is telling the story, Don't ever stop telling the story.
Thanks a bunch man! We’re all in this together
Thanks GT your a true Gentleman 😊
Hey Guthrie. Love your work. Such an inspiration.
Glad you enjoy it!
Support from your parents, extended family, a local community of experts, and a school guidance counselor who knew when to let go that's an amazing combination and you've really run with it
The best way to learn is to get healthy be clear in your life and closer to the creator to ask him for the truth to shine like the son like a gift like you have stay fit follow your dreams and it will all be given with hard work great players
I also grew up around music. My Dad drove the bus, for ZZ Hill. When I was a kid I remember Bobby Bland coming to our house. I also got to spend a whole day with Albert King and only my dad, my younger brother and the bus mechanic was there.
Wow what a great memory to have
This video is a humble look at the real Guthrie, and how you got where you are not just the fast playing guitar player that never seams to hit a wrong note. I have been trying to play guitar for the better part of my life and never seam to get where I want to be but, I still strive for get there someday...
One question I have is, how did you deal with the starting out jamming with people? The thought is always there that I'm not a good enough plyer to sit in.
Luv ya GT. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
You have a good heart
Beautiful example of what an acoustic guitar should sound like. Awesome brother.
Thanks a bunch man
@@guthrietrappmusic 👊👍
Much love to you and your Nashville crew.
Appreciate what you're all doing for the guitar community.
Thank you, brother.
Our pleasure!
I've been playing guitar for decades, on and off. I played for a living for some years. Then I went to prison for decades I didn't have access to guitar most of the time. With all this background I still cannot play even the simple things that you do and hope to be able to learn this from you. I have 4,000 to 5,000 good, original songs I've written, and I can't play hardly any of them. Maybe a hundred for 200 or so. I hope I can learn from you so that I can add guitar to all of the songs I've written. Thank you for sharing your musical talent and essence with all of us.
👍🏾
Its always about the music 🎶
it always will be. that's how i always felt about it.
Nice Bro! Love the story telling! Btw - you’re named after one of my top five favorite songwriters. I know Woody’s music inside/out and upside down. He was a serious bad ass mofu. My other favorite from that period is Robert Johnson
Loved the insight into your life. Do a Tony Rice lesson!!
I think I just heard Woody say hey man we need to get this guy in the forever band. No hurries gettin there though!
GT , you're almost as good a story teller as you are a guitar player.
Great stories and playin as always thank you GT
Always enjoy the stories, cheers!
Glad you like them!
Talent is such a small thing, i wish you would give yourself more credit for all the hard work, passion and time you put into learning to play.
Saw the clinic on your website and am so jealous of people on that continent. You, Mason and Wonderland are 3 of my top 5 tele players in 1 clinic, it's sure to be an amazing experience. And love these "behind the scenes"/"chilling after dark" videos!
Thank you so mutch Guthrie for sharing, and bless your family for beeing so supportiv about your talent and support it. Thank Mr and Ms. Trapp for loving the child so mutch and be sure all will come out great, just in support the path of the Child with its natural talent. Scoolsystem is not for everyone, and believing in the children also against the pressure of scool is hard i know it. But also good from the teachers, that send you out class and jam guitar outside the School, in a way they saw what your jurney will be, and what could be better in effect for a real teacher than seeing e child/teenager that follows purly his heart, dream and passion! Thank you so mutch Guthrie for sharing. For me aside that you are a brilliant Guitarplayer and teacher, you are also a really gifted storyteller. As i wrote i love this content, as i do it with uncle larry. I can immagine how you chatted driving down to atlanta. Have a really nice week! Sorry my english
Thanks for sharing that with us. We appreciate everything pickers like you, Uncle Larry and Ford give us students. Much love to you Guthrie. 🙌🏻
Our pleasure!
love the stories Mr GT. A life following a simple passion, the love of music and the desire to move others hearts with it. Thanks for taking us in and along the journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
thx for sharing
Thank you, Guthrie 🙏🏻
I learned to sing and love music because my mom would put on records and sing along with Linda Ronstadt, Hoyt Axton, Pete Seeger, Woody and Arlo Guthrie, The Eagles, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkel, and so many others ... it was in my teens that I picked up a guitar, after playing keys and violin and singing in the school choir.
Quite the journey, and your story is inspiring. Thank you for sharing 🙏🏻🤍
Cool! I also liked watching G.E. Smith do his thing on SNL in the late '80s (I had just started playing guitar at the time). Part of me felt sorry for the guitarist(s) in whatever '80s Band Of The Moment was the musical guest on the show that week, because G.E. usually had better tone and licks to my ears, LOL.
Great story, seems like a perfect childhood and as you said what a great musical start.
I used to skip class and play guitar hell yeah!
That G.E. Smith Story is great! I grew up with that era of SNL too, so I can imagine how that’s gotta be one of your many “pinch me” moments to be doing a clinic with him!
Love your music and video content.
Much appreciated!
Way cool Guthrie! Dare I say, "no plan B"! Keep it up, brother!
You should write a book!
New Guthrie just dropped 🔥🎸
Thanks for sharing the story of your musical journey! I really related to the part about your guitar playing buddy, I had one in middle school. We were taking Guitar as a class, which was school supplied gut-string guitars, teaching us folk strumming patterns. Me and my buddy would go off on our own during practice time and play AC/DC riffs on these folk guitars, and the teacher would confiscate our picks, and back then losing a pick was a big deal, haha. So we started bringing the plastic bread tie things off a loaf of bread, because we didn’t care when he took those 😂 Loved hearing your story, man.
Love that!
That was real nice, I feel like I just took a trip down to the Gulf coast and Pensacola Beach on Wednesday nights, pickin parties and points beyond.
Thanks for sharing!
Woodie Guthrie Trapp!
Hey Guthrie, you know you hear a great background story when it invokes memories. Great episode.
I’m the youngest of 3 brothers. They use to take me to concerts and folk festivals when I was in grade school. I also started playing guitar and fiddle when I was 12. Your story reminded me of great music parties, teachers and musicians I met along the way when I was young.
Thanks for sharing.
Peace and Music
Do you still play ?
@@ATO19657 Hey, yes I play everyday.
Makes me glad to hear that! Keep sharing the music! 🤙
@@ATO19657 Thanks Man, I appreciate that.
man great stories Guthrie thanks!... that's it. I'm sellin the horse. 🔥
Loved this video more than any other! TY Guthrie
Love these little snippets into your origins
Guthrie your an inspiration your guitar skills and your story telling, keep up the great work bless you my friend.
So cool Guthrie - really resonates with me, if you'll forgive the pun. Livin on the other side of the world, listening to NGR and Tony Rice 35 years ago. Played Native American until my parents threatened to hide it. How about that. Gonna go listen to some of that again right after this.
Perfect timing posting this video as my subscription for GT's ArtistWorks just renewed 😎. Hope some of your old teachers know what a great instructor you have become.
The "Cheers" was hilarious!
Wonder how many here have the same basic 10th grade / music story.
It is nice to hear that the adults in your life had fair awareness as well.
The power of the Muse. Shining brightly, thanks Guthrie!
Thanks for sharing these personal stories Guthrie. These episodes mixed with lessons make up a great channel. Cheers.
Man, I resonate with much of your musical journey. My dad was a jazz drummer so music was a huge part of our household. Saturday morning our house was filled with the greats blasting through the house; Coltrane, Miles, Stan Kenton and of course Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa. I had an Uncle who lived in Pensacola and sang Southern Gospel and was a great picker himself. Sunday mornings in our house was full on Southern Gospel blaring through the house. The Florida Boys, Happy Goodman Family and my Uncles group the Dixie Echos. That really was embedded in my ear and my soul and is the foundation for my playing nearly six decades later. Keep sharing stories it’s as much a part of us as the playing!
When I tune in, it always seems like I'm hangin' out with a friend. Love the way your family and friends supported and nurtured you. That's what it's all about.
You thanking us to let you share your heartfelt story. That’s golden! You are a remarkable man, GT. Wish I lived in Nashville to hear you play live…often!!
I appreciate that!
Hell of a story GT.🤙
Cheers...
I don't think I ever learn a darn thing watching Trapp's videos, but he sure is good!
Rhett Shull: there is no plan B.
Guthrie Trapp: there is no plan!
Love it!
Thanks Guthrie, really enjoyed that. Always wondered whether your name was connected with Woody.
Glad you enjoyed it
Really good stuff! Man! Good to hear where you came from…!
This is it, GT. Love this vibe. Thanks so much for the back story, and of course the playing. Cheers!
You got it man! Thanks a bunch

Well, a February 3rd guy here but a number of years older. Pick for personal entertainment only. Great picker you are and can see why!
Cheers to my friend Guthrie!!!!!
Love your stories Guthrie. You’re a great story teller! As someone who grew up in Southern California my whole life, these stories of all the other areas of the states are very fascinating and intriguing!
A beautiful origin tale Guthrie! Love you !
Obssessed, possessed with music. Great story. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Congrats on the new lights. They look great. Also, thanks for sharing more about how you came up! I was down at the Flora-Bama just last week and thought of you.
Hi Guthrie and greetings from Sweden. Thank you for sharing your experiences, knowledge, and life stories.
Some time ago, there was a poll on a Swedish guitar page on Facebook about who one's favorite guitarist was. I answered SRV and someone else, and added you as a "bubblare" (rising star).
The person who posted the poll contacted me and was so happy that I mentioned you. He had been in Nashville for a while and seemed to have met you. He praised you highly, saying what a down-to-earth and nice person you are.
I think that really shines through in your videos.
I like the new lighting. Much warmer.
Any time I get lazy I can watch one of your videos and get back to work.
Learning by immersion. Best way to learn (music) language. This is why I’m not a musician;P
I enjoy your stories, Guthrie.
Glad you like them!
Bump 🤘🏼
Thanks alwys for the information bro 🙏
Thanks Guthrie, great stories, great picking. Keep doing what you do! By the way, Otis brought me here.
Hey Guthrie, I love your playing and I love your stories! Thank you so much for letting us share in your knowledge and experiences!! It's amazing how people of extremely diverse backgrounds can find common ground with music! What a great thing, particularly when you have such a masterful player such as yourself to help lead the way!!
Sounds like an ideal upbringing!
I remember running into GE Smith in NYC going in and out of the guitar shops. I’d always see someone around 48th st. Cool stories you are sharing. Thank you.
Excellent video Guthrie!loved it ❤
Thanks a bunch !
@@guthrietrappmusic I was raised in the bluegrass scene in the 80’s. Brushy Creek, Horse Pens 40., etc I’m also an Alabama boy. 🤟🏼
Back to the roots...Best playing I've heard in a long time !
**Guthrie!!* I too, walked out of the 10th grade and never returned. I'll one-up you on being disruptive . . . me and a friend of mine literally got so disruptive in a Sunday School class that the teacher finally said, "I've had it!" and he walked out and never returned. I'm not super proud of that, but I'm just saying that I can relate to the walking out of school and being disruptive. I moved away from home when I was 17 years old. That was a mistake, because if I would have stayed at home a few more years I could have grown in the guitar world. So unfortunately, I didn't start really start playing guitar until I was almost 21 years old.
I keyed in on something you said about having natural talent vs being influenced by your surroundings. If I would have been surrounded by family playing music, and therefore maybe had more opportunity to play guitar at an early age, I believe it would have made a HEAVY impact on my life long ability.
Love your videos. This one is rich as it gets! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you. I mean that.
I appreciate that
Always good to hear the stories along the path, that influence "The Journey"
I saw you fill in for Uncle Larry w Trigger Hippie at Penns Peak
I’ve followed ever since
Great stuff
Just ordered your vinyl record. Can't wait to hear it brother.
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for all the tasty generosity in all you do music, and sharing everything guitar. Thank you GT! 💪🎸
Me too on a nylon that is, but in 3rd grade (1966?) it was all Mel Bay books. No blues. Then, 1968, taught bar chords, and the world opened up. And in a place close to the Weavers, Lee.
You make some good sounds bro. Keep it going. I get a kick out of your lessons and hell I’ve been learning guitar for 50 years and music since I heard Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini in 1960!
Of course I'm familiar with Woody and Arlo Guthrie. I heard a lot of Arlo Guthrie in my house growing up. I'm Bobby and I was named after Robert Zimmerman. One of my dad's favorite guys to listen to. What a great musical upbringing it was with those laid-back artists.
Great stuff. I am so appreciative of your channel, your generosity, and of course, your elegant guitar playing.
Thank you kindly!
Love you, young brother. You shared some real life and real feelings. Does my heart good to feel you've arrived in this space and are still going. Gather no moss.
This has to be my favorite video of yours! Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Guthrie do you like big bold red wines? Sangiovese, Barbera, Zinfandel, ect. I was fortunate enough to become friends with some of the best wine makers in Paso Robles, and they told me how to choose a great wine! Forget pretty labels and black bottles, forget some score number bullshit. Choose your varietal, Sauvignon, Barbera, Syrah. Than look for its appellation, where it comes from. You want to see the name of a town. All the grapes have to come from that town, and it makes a difference. If it just lists a state, those grapes could and will be from all parts of that state. Now here’s the clincher. Look for the alc%. Inexpensive and low end wine has 12-13%. Better wine has 13-14%, small batch vineyard wine will have 14-16% and it’s stunningly good red wine. Try doing it and see if you’re palate agrees.
Cheer’s🍷🍷
I truly enjoy your stories! Thanks for sharing your amazing musicianship and talent with us! Wish you all the best! Kudos from Brazil! 👏👏👏
