- Hey guys, so we have a tie breaker at $100 for the “IN STEREO” CD raffle.
I guess we have to do a tie breaker.
Thanks for that!
In this video let’s look at the G shaped A- chord and the A shaped 4 chord (D-)and C shaped 5 chord (E7) and some cool things to play around them.
This is super fun and immediately sounds great to my ear. The arpeggios outline these chords perfectly and are just an instant vibe to me.
Have fun with it and don’t forget the Tip Jug!
Thanks a million!

Honestly when I was younger ( I am Old now... been playing since I was a Teen and its now more then 35 years later), I would have dismissed much of your playing as "Jazzsterbation" and refused to pay too much attention. Fortunately for me, now, I have diversified my appreciation for different styles of guitar playing. Your Hillbilly ways, Country Vibe, Jazz Cat understandings, and Blues Bent Roots are an Amazing mix of Americana Textures and Flavors... if you were cooking in the kitchen I would constantly be back for "seconds" and fat and happy on what you are always serving up. Thank you for sharing.
That intro is so good! Dig it so much!
Glad you like it!
Glad I found your channel. One of my new favorites. Great playing
Welcome aboard!
These keep getting better and better. Thanks for sharing these ideas with your virtual guitar community Guthrie!
Glad you like them!
You are an absolute legend brother! Grateful for you!
A really great lesson thanks a lot.
You are welcome!
Nice playing man. You’re one of my favourite players.
Appreciate that!
"Wow" - Owen Wilson
😂 that's a good one!!! Dr ill bit!!!
The video starts with a conversation through the guitar. Very cool.
I love music like this it's real and from scales and the soul I heard that style before in old movies old country movies and with happy feels thanks for keeping music alive Guthrie
Sometime when you play don't think to much it comes from the amazing brain our God created for us
Bro that was badass took me back to listening to Marty Stewart albums with my Dad and him trying to learn Marty's licks.

What an awesome class! Many thanks!!!
Came back to comment and give a thumbs up after getting tons of miles out of these concepts. Thanks, Guthrie!
15:18 "That's too country - Hillbilly.". I love those little gem notes. Great content.

Cool!

💯🎶
Wow
Awesome playing, I am definitely with you on modes... for eg Dorian is just the notes of the 2 chord, mixo the 5 chord..... heaps easier to understand thinking like that
You're awesome GT!
Is there no end to your creativity?! Wow! This has that "Wes Blues" flavor you guys did at The Underdog. Brilliant stuff all day long. Love these offerings, GT!!
Your videos have been awesome lately!! 🙂
Glad you like them!
thank you, Sir!
looking forward to hearing/seeing "In Stereo" live
I can't keep up, but i gotta try because it's all so good!
That intro you did was dope. Musical dope that is.
Man I love this lesson so much I got so many ideas out of it you inspire me very much keep rocking Guthrie I'm a big fan from Israel.
Thanks GT! 👏
Love hearing the inside stuff of your gig experience. Played at Kingston Mines open stage Sunday and having to nail riffs immediately with strangers is a rush and frightening- 1st song the other guitar calls B-flat, he sings one verse and nods to me for a lead 😳- managed to fill in but felt wonky, next song Bm thrill is gone - had the place go n- so fun-!thanks for your channel- helped me get off the couch and to the gigs
Great lesson. You have helped my guitar playing tremendously. Between, the private and online lesson I had with your and the RUclips videos I am a much better player. Thank you. The information is in the chords!
Theory has always alluded me, but I always pick up a little something from your vid’s. Great playing as usual buddy, thanks!
Great stuff, Guthrie. OLE!
Thank you kindly!
Man, we are so fortunately blessed to have guys like you showing us what you do. I watch you just about every day, Guthrie. Thanks for everything.
Love this as per usual. Looking forward to the Beato video!
Cheers👍🤪🎸
Beautiful Spanish Melodies.
Regarding how you started out talking about not feeling so great until you got on stage ....
I know the feeling, when you get around ppl who appreciate you, you get amped up!
Keep up the honesty, GT.
i think we need to move to TN when my wife retires. (I already am, but I'm starting a 2nd career as a freelance copywriter. I can do that anywhere!)
~14:00 :
That's why I got into Classical guitar! I like the sounds of taking a note, changing the bass under it, and you change the feeling. That's especially true when you're playing 3rd & 7th notes on top, or some other funky combo.
I just like being able to set, and change, a mood with just a few notes.
On the technical side, I like "countermelodies" where the upper melody is doing one thing, and the bass is doing another.
Great stuff, as usual! I love your lessons & insights.
👌👍 🤪
Just fantastic insights guthrie, im inspired to keep playing, thats the best compliment i can give, thanks so much.
That opening 2 minutes was amazing, loved it!
Appreciate the insight into the live show GT
Wow is right! Which is the jalapeño note?!
Man what a great video and intro jam for me..today I’m gigging and there’s a bunch of Latin and Santana tunes all 1 minor to the 5..harmonic minor sounds
Yes sir
You're such an amazing player dude.
Cool.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Tone insane
Mr GT, it is really amazing that you can extract so much melodic inventions using your fluid knowledge of CAGED in ever smaller pieces. I learned the neck using CAGED, but you really expand it so much. I have some much more to learn. Shame we call it CAGED in a way, when its really just a way to learn all our triads and inversions. But man, do you ever make it work beautifully.
Y'know, it's funny that ppl have arranged the chords that way (but I know that's the order they link together) to make that word: caged.
It sounds like something you're caught in, that limits you...
But instead, it helps FREE you to play all over, so that anywhere you're playing on the fretboard, you'll be able to find the next chord (or notes, triad, whatever) nearby!
Ironic, right?
BTW, maybe we could drop the E, because it's just a chopped-off C.
Then we're just talking about a cage, like a scaffold, instead of being "caged up."
Hmmm?
GT noodling around is like a F1 racecar to my Sentra noodling....😂😎🌴🎸. Excellent lesson dude! Mahalo.
Who dying to hear GT rip a metal/rock solo for one of these vids?🤘😎🎸
Just saw you an Tom on Rick Beato and subscribed to both. Both of your styles are what I aspire to be. Amazing tone and phrasing.
Fantastic lesson, thanks Mr T 👍🎸🎶
Really awesome! Sounds a bit like Bach to me! Great stuff. Thanks again!
The man tells us sweet stories with his fingers.
Legend!
i remember that being the progression at the end of Crossroads, if memory serves
I think I get what your saying ...your approach is more organic, Beato is mechanical (theory) ... both important ...but I want to drive ...I can fix the engine after and do the analysis to help understand what I did later...my fingers they kind of know ...anyway friends all around the world Guthrie ...this from Gatineau Qc. keep em coming ...much appreciated 🎸
Thanks 👍
Cousin Guthrie, i learn so much when you are playing.... Yhem when you start to talk and discuss things... The cup gets full quickly.
Thank You.
So cool GT!!!
🤘🏼 bump
Loved this thanks !
that was just great.....
Great lessen, thanks Guthrie.
Man that was a treasure trove of good info. Glad I have a long weekend to dig into it all.
THATS CRACKIN STUFF,,,HO MY GOODNESS LOVED IT
Fantastic tone on that gibbo.
Gonna watch this a thousand times, some nice bits and pieces
One the best lessons I’ve ever seen. Wow
Great content
👍 Another great lesson GT! Truly inspiring.
Another lovely video. Always inspires me!
Such a lovely tone. So much to unpack here. Thanks for more Guthrie Gold. Really appreciate your content GT. your last comment about driving and option anxiety is great point.
Hypnotically exquisite lesson brother. It’s always a joy watching and listening to you think.
Minor Swing - Django Reinhardt. Perfect example of what you’re talking about.
Tell us about your favorite pick(s). Inquiring minds want to know.
Sounded very Francisco Tarrega today. 🇪🇸
Hi Guthrie! I recently discoverd your channel and I love it, lots of cool stuff.
I am curious about the Caged system. I learnt the fretboard\arpeggios\scales\chord shapes in a different way but I got some students during the years saying that they got stuck with the CAGED system. They could only play in a vertical way, following the CAGED shapes. Do you have any videos where you explained how to play in a more horizontal way? I feel my knoweldge of the CAGED system it's a bit limited and I want to help them.
Good lesson and like the hat! Where can i get one?
Melin online 👍
Uno Mas cervasa por favor and mors chips and salsa por favor😂
For those of you following my story regarding my wife’s journey with breast cancer here is a video of her journey! That y’all for the kind words! We can now get back to practicing with GT! Great stuff again! Question… what does “using thirds and sixth” mean? I’m having trouble understanding that.

This is like Hoist That Rag, Tom Waits. Go listen.
Marc Ribot is the guitarist.
Just caught this lesson on my way home from work. Loves the melodic vibe and the Spanish sound. Can’t wait to pick up my guitar when I get home. Thanks so much!
I wonder if having jam tracks that use these ideas might help in understanding how to play like he does. 🤔
What's the name of that old familiar song you opened with? -(4:00 min mark). Couldn't understand what you said.
white hat looking at the camo hat and thinking "who da'fuc is that hat?"
Why that?
That’s the cat in the hat
If you can imagine that
Brim round, brim flat
White hats thinking whys he not wearing a hat
Huh
@@Steve-si8hx it's camo
