I love your channel soooo much. I am a 70 year old grandma from Australia and I want to start growing my plants in water instead of soil. Because it is always warm here we get so many creepy things in pots with soil! I can't afford things like leca so when I saw your yarn gardens I was thrilled. I have a LOT of yarn. My favourite plants are begonias and coleus, so after seeing what you have done, I can't wait!😊😊
Great video! Such great information! I am really interested in your yarn system, what an interesting idea and can't wait to try. What would the process be for African violets? Thank you so much!
Hey there. 😃. The process has been the same with my violets. Acrylic yarn, and either clean the roots off very well so there’s no soil left or propagate the leaves directly in the yarn. My mini trailer is still blooming- second bloom cycle while in the yarn. 😃😃😃. Any questions just reach out. I love talking about this stuff. 🌱👍🏼
Thanks Paul, you’ve answered some or most of my questions regarding transferring propagated plants to soil. I suppose in the long run it’s pretty much common sense and also much the same across quite a range of different plants. Somehow my begonia leaves only want to grow roots and little plants under water but none on the top of leaves. Maybe I need to wait a lot longer or are there only certain types of begonias that will grow like that. Another informative video, thank you Paul.
Hey there. 😃. I’m not sure if it has to do with how bright the LED lights are or if it’s something else. But more and more if my props are growing plants in the top leaf surface. So interesting. So glad you’re having some successes. I recently propagated directly in soil and I just noticed the babies didn’t make it. They’re so sensitive when it comes to soil/potting medium. I’m sticking with what works! Tysm for watching. I appreciate you!!! 👍🏼🌱🪴
I love to experiment too. Could you please be more specific about what kind of yarn. I use wick watering for African violets in perlite soil mix. I imagine av's would do good in this!
I have a Science degree and therefore love experimenting. My life led me to teach medically fragile children which is very funny to me. Best job out there but definitely not for what I went to school. Playing along with begonias, learning through you, and trying things out has really given me such an exciting hobby and it obviously goes back to why I got a degree in Science to begin with. Thank you so much. Can I use 'fat' or extra thick acrylic yarn instead of braiding/ crocheting into the 'rope'? The specialty kind? Or was on sale and I bought it. Now I'm wondering.
You made my week!!! What an amazing story!! I appreciate you. You can definitely try the thicker acrylic yarn as well. I recently got some on sale too but haven’t gotten around to try it out. It’s the thickness of my thumb…might be similar to what you have. As long as it wicks moisture you’re probably fine. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. Thanks again for reaching out. I’m inspired by you!!!
@@natalieshore7844 hey Natalie. I’ve been using LED “daylight” screw-in bulbs and they seem to do better than the LED “grow lights” I have. Better growth, better color and it’s much less expensive. 😃👍🏼
@@natalieshore7844 I’ve never measured the light before. A lot of my plants are now getting natural light from a south facing window. The LEDs are usually for propagations these days.
How long do you bag a transferred begonia from water? Also, when do you start putting stuff in the water and what is it? Obviously, I’m a beginner. Just started my first attempt this week because I bought a Rex begonia online and it came soaked and leaves have been falling.
@@r-anthro oh no. I hate when that happens. They do t always travel so well. I would bag for a week or two. Once I see new roots growing and the leaves have perked up, I’ll open the bag for air circulation for a few days. If the plant doesn’t wilt, then I’ll remove the bag. The feed I give is a diluted orchid fertilizer - Bettergro orchid - there’s a link in the description on Amazon for the products I use. Hope it can recover quickly for you.

Me too! Hi from USA. 😊🌹
Wonderful. Beautiful collection.
Thank you so much!!!! 😃🌱
Lovely begonia 🌹
Hi Paul, love your videos 🥰 please show us how you make the self watering pots with yarn 🧶
Will do. I’ll throw together a video of that soon. 😃😃😃

Hello. Yup. I have some violets in the yarn. A good type is 100% acrylic Charisma yarn. But most acrylic or polyester yarns work great as well. 👍🏼🪴
@@paultheplantparent2702 thanks!

Do you sell your plants when they are well on their own?
@@REAGAN_1980 hello. Yup. I sell some on Etsy. Not as much as I used to but Etsy has lots of plant sellers! 😃👍🏼
Does the water have vitamin
Hello. Yes. I use hydroponic nutrients - Maxigro. 😃🌱
Thanks for the information bro , greetings from Indonesia 🙏🙏
