Begonia Rex Care Tips | 9 Things You Should Know!

- In this video, I share all of my Begonia Rex care tips and tricks. I forgot to mention that they are VERY EASILY OVERWATERED so I share a foolproof method of identifying when to water my begonias so I can avoid accidentally overwatering them. Hopefully you find it helpful too. Also, make sure to watch till the end where I share how I treat and prevent powdery mildew, fungal rot and mealy bugs on my plants.

@@MyFellowFoliage I am a FA ✈️ and a Nurse. The begonia’s are soo pretty for the $169 I spent on them if, they die I will be doing CPR on them 😂. I will be ordering all the stuff you recommended to remove the mildew, fungus, rot. Your video’s were the most educated and helpful by showing the products you use when plants 🌱 get mildew, fungal rott and bugs 🐜 and Thanks for that I also, liked your video. 👍 We must have the same likes because I ordered my begonias, which are the same as your begonia’s before I watched your video. These pretty bisches better last 😂.

Love your video very informative and well organized ⭐️👍🏻I’m a new Begonia Rex owner I’ve only had heirloom Beefsteak begonias these are so finicky. It started to curl up. It was over watered.
I let it dry out and used a grow light and bought a humidifier it’s thriving now. It made a total turn around 💜

I would rather let them dry out then overwater! I use Neem oil on my leaves it seems to help the whole plant a lot! All my plants I use this!

My Rexy loves to be SOAKED. I wonder why. Like even if the soil is damp he will start to wilt. I have to soak it to get him to perk up. Maybe he needs to be repotted in better soil. It's the soil he came with when I bought him from home Depot as a hanging planter.

I havr begonia rex jurassic silver swirl and had no idea that Rexes are not the easiest 😅 I think it depends on climate you live in and you begaviour towards plants care. Mine can overcome every mistake I make. Love her.
I got my first begonia royal velour this spring and as she grew I experienced my first struggles with the watering. I will definetly try to look after her foliage before watering now, thank you so much !!

I bought a small Begonia Rex in a pot that says Wick and Grow. It has two strings at the bottom. It died shortly after. I bought another one because I thought it was just so beautiful and I wanted it in my home. It looks like it’s on its way out as well. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. 😢😮.

I live in a desert and was thinking of putting it in a terrarium.
My tips have also been browning out, but we’re so dry and I only water when I feel likel the part is much lighter and dryer
I live in Arizona. It’s very dry. I only water my rex once a week, but I do water from the top. It started dropping leaves the stem and the new growth looks good maybe bottom water?

How can I tell if brown edges come from low humidity or fungus issue?
If you cannot get the leaves or stems wet with water, how do they handle the mealy bug spray? Do you just spray and then put it by a fan to dry?

Hi, I really love your video. I am Bangladesh. Begonia plants tough to grow here. Yesterday my wife bought me several types of Begonias. Here regular garden soil, Coco pit, perlite and vermicompost, bone dust are available. Now I will pot my plants in New pots. Will those above elements make a potting mix for Begonia plants ?
That picture is fungal rot? I have those patches all over my leaves and everything I read said it was either too much sun, too much water, too little water etc.... so Ive tried everything. I guess I will try an antifungal next. I just hate the white spots it leaves all over my leaves. 😢
Do begonia rex do well in a self watering pot?
“They’re a little more finicky” I wish I knew that before I got one. When it’s dehydrated, it looks dead and that scares me everything

Since Begonias are so finicky can you use pots with wicks ? Since you like to water from the bottom and the leaves should stay dry .
Hi! I haver some indoor begonia rexes, wich lost their leves during the winter. They try to bring out some new leaves from the roots, but always dies. I water them as my big rexes, they are in the same pot. Van you please help me what to do with them? Thak You 😙

Wanted to tell you that the video is pretty good but I have a question. There are a lot of people that like to bottom water their plants like you they say in order to avoid wetting the leaves and stems. What happens in nature when they do not get bottom watered? These plants are from tropical forest where is constantly raining in high humidity and the leaves are wet. Thank you

Sorry about that delayed response, I have a tonne of comments to go through and sometimes don't get notified especially for my older videos. In nature, there is sufficient airflow for the water to evaporate naturally so they don't sit in the water for too long. Otherwise, the leaves will also rot. Hope that helps!

I’m about to buy this plan but after watching your video I’m not sure if I will . I have a problem keeping Calathea alive so if this one is easier than the calathea then I would go for it if it is harder than I may just passed
Hi Maya, calatheas are easier compared to begonia rex imo. You will save yourself some grief by avoiding them I reckon 🤣

I fertilised with organic worm wee ! Love it when we can propagate plants easily!

Hi Diane, yes in fact a couple have. They are tricky which is why I made a video on their care when I figured what works for me. May I ask what's happened with your begonias?

What causes the stem to basically shovel by the leaf and droop if it isn’t dry?
Over watering could do that too. Would check the roots to make sure it looks healthy

Urine or pee is full of nitrogen. If you drink a lot of water yourself and do a 50/50 water to urine, it shouldn't smell. Urine is good for a lot of plants. Will also keep critters out of your garden if you pour around the exterior undiluted. Tell your hubby to go pee around your garden. 🤣 The will think you lost your mind.🤣🤣🤣 But it works!

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear! If it's overwatered, you can try repotting it into fresh soil or put it in a spot that is warmer/gets higher light so it uses the water up quicker. Alternatively I heard some people stick a sponge or something similar in the soil to soak up some moisture.

I have 2 magolias And the problem I'm having with them is that that the leaves are getting all crispy and/or crispy and fall off one of them already lose all their leave and the other 1 is just Billy hanging on I do not water from above above eye water from underneath and there are sitting on my fish tank So they have a lot of humidity I just got them this summer and I love them But I do not know what you do
I forgot to say also that I did not report it as yet so I don't know if that is the problem because I get them so late in the summer I want to wait until next summer to is example to report

why the red leaves edges turns brown and not crispy?
If they turn brown rather than crispy it's usually a sign of fungal issues in my experience...
How do you treat it?
I suggest to use an anti-fungal treatment, give it good air flow and make sure the leaves don't rub against each other as they grow
