Not ALL begonias can be propagated by leaf cuttings. Cane leaf cuttings might root, but if they don't have any node tissue on them, they'll never form another plant. There are a handful of exceptions to the rule, but they're few and far between.
That's good to know! I have several cane begonia props right now. I just threw in some leaves to experiment but I guess that won't work. At least I won't be disappointed when they don't root lol!
@@HeartShapedLeaves I'm just wondering if there is an update on this "crop" of cuttings??? I have a bunch of these guys that I want to propagate so I'm waiting on some news. 🍃🥀🍃
@@taylorhingey2063 I have rooted tons of cane Begonias. I have only gotten a few leaf cuttings that rooted. Surprisingly the Amphioxus is one of them. Go figure they hate to be touched but yet they are pretty easy to root. Hope you have a super tomorrow!!! 🍃♥️🍃
Every time I hear someone say begonia withlacoochee I always hear Casey saying, I guess all the other ones are withoutlacoochee🤣 that sh*t cracks me up! y'all are too damn cute🖤🖤🖤
When handling a mold/mildew infested plant, gently spray it with water before moving it around and spreading spores everywhere. Molds and mildew love humidity and lack of good airflow. 35-45% humidity is good for limiting the ability of molds/mildew spreading.
Literally such perfect timing! I just cut some leaves off my begonias and was hoping to prop them and have them going about a dozen different ways and was hoping something would root.
The funky water is so true! Been noticing lately how fast everything roots since I stop cleaning out the bottom of my bins. Also I really enjoyed this one! Thanks Ed 😎
I love listening to your After Dark podcasts while I paint! You and your hubby make me laugh so hard and think about life and mental health a bit more. So happy I found you guys! Also, thank you for this begonia propagation video!!! ❤ Your collection is insanely beautiful, Madam! Winston's blurrrghlurghing is darn cute.
This video was so educational. I just realized that my begonia marketed as “Brazilian Lady” is actually a withlacoochee! And boyyy she needs a trimming some kinda bad!
“Don’t be stingy Mark” 😂 You bet I’m coming up in May! Love your videos! Thanks for giving me the courage to try and propagate my begonia Variabilis X. We’ll see how it goes!
I have found you and you are my people and I never knew how much my life was missing you and your beautiful plantyness!!! Also, I don’t understand why I can keep all these expensive, delicate, tropical plants alive and thriving but my basil and rosemary die every damn time. 🌺
Thanks Rachel. I just started begonias. Got one today from Steve’s leaves, and I think it got too cold. I hope it pulls through. Yours are beautiful and I am grateful to you for sharing. 🤟🏽
Omg, Winston. My heart! Do you only use distilled water on all of your begonias? I've been trying to skirt that tap water line but I think I need to rethink my tactics. Looooved the video! I totally blame your videos for getting me into begonias in the first place. 😘
I love your videos and your plants all look so beautiful and healthy. I try real hard with mine but they still don't look as pretty and vibrant in color and healthy. I can't afford to keep buying them either but I just love begonias and they hate me.
I enjoyed this! Simple, I've bought Solenia Begonia, hopefully this baby will be happy in the heat and sun in Florida. I trimmed 10 leaves off fingers crossed more plants 🌱. She's sitting on porch in morning sun and shade before I put in full sun. Wish me luck. Peace.
Love your videos. I had that mold on one of my begonias and I made a mild spray of baking soda and water and that worked. Haven't seen it since but I changed the location of the begonia. I've started begonias in dirt, perlite and water and all worked
Thanks for the vid! I have so many begonia prop experiments around my house right now. Some are working, some not so much but it's all apart of the process. I had to go back and listen to lil' Winston's snores 🤣
Yes!!! Really enjoyed this video, I also love love your potcast, I listen to it when I’m doing my plant chores. I also have a question, maybe you’ll get to answer it... I propagated some rex begonia leaves in water, it rooted but it also started making baby leaves at the bottom of the mother leaf, where it conects with the petiol, what now?
Hello from Greece Question:after placing the cuttings or the leaves into the big ...box let'call it and put the cover on ,do you open it from time to time to pour any wayer in it ,so as to keep some humidity inside it????????Or the spagna moss is kept humid anyway becaise you keep the cover closed????? Thank you
Does anyone know if you can propagate cane begonias like wet sticks??? I have a stem thats rooted with a few nodes & no leaves.....i wanted to maybe chop & prop?
I should have gotten insurance on a few from Botanicaz, the best growing easiest one for me so far is the Julau , which Is a definite fav with the pink . Tfs i lost my Malochostica it was a fav 😥 Trying not to focus on the losses for instance my Campostportianum from Botanicaz has exploded like crazy ! I saw your UGGs just ordered in black 😀 please say they are so Comfy 😌
I bought a large pot from Walmart last year that had several different colors/types of begonia. Brought it in thru winter and most of them ended up dying. Only two are still alive (barely). Actually just yesterday a cat got into the pot while it was on my porch and dug in the pot and broke one of the plants. All that was salvageable from it was one stem with a single leaf and another basically just leaf, which I attempted to plant the pieces hoping it'd propagate. The plant hadnt been doing well for awhile actually. One of the begonias had gotten super leggy. To the point where theres only one leaf on the ends of long stems. I've been wondering whether the problem could be the pot being too large now that most of the plants died. I've read that begonias don't like overly large pots, but wasn't sure whether to take what's left and transfer it to a smaller pot. I don't wanna kill it off completely. The pot is currently on my shaded porch. Begonias normally do well in that location. I've been careful not to over water it and fertilized it with the granular miracle grow type blue stuff (that you put in water) yesterday and I fertilized it a couple times over winter. The only thing I know of that could be the prob is the pot being too big, but I'd love some advice. You seem quite knowledgeable, so I'd really appreciate your input. Thx!!
My dog knocked over my Begonia Pegasus. All the stems snapped off. The next day the leaves and stems that broke off were wilted and soft already. Will the broken stems in pot continue to grow? And will the wilted stems bounce back? I'm trying to propagate them in water and some of the leafs in soil.

Any and all information on propping is a BIG help💯

Winston is the ultimate gardening assistant. He's providing his two cents about which leaves to cut!

SUCH a good point about how much better props do. Also a reason I don’t mind getting baby plants.
Love the studio Jean's "dont be stingy Mark" reference. NICE!
Good to know I follow plant channels with good taste. Lol
Lol right?! I was wondering how many dirty hoe mommies are up in here
Hey Jeans 👖👖👖👖👖

Amount of knowledge is staggering. So much to learn. And all those beautiful Begonias. Thank you.

Basil and other herbs are so hard to grow indoors. Begonias that live in terrariums are super easy, you don’t have to water or do anything.
Thanks much for detailed information on propagating begonias
I just got my first begonia this week! I’m so excited!! Love your videos, but the podcast is my favorite thing on RUclips! 💚
Thanks Rachel. I just started begonias. Got one today from Steve’s leaves, and I think it got too cold. I hope it pulls through. Yours are beautiful and I am grateful to you for sharing. 🤟🏽

So I heard that you guys are from OK? Is that a fact Jack? I live in Arkansas 30 minutes from the state line.
How do you get it to grow vertically? I have one my mom gave me but it keeps growing horizontally ☹️

Its not playing for me, either. Then again, YT itself seems to be having a tantrum.

RUclips seems to be broken right now for me😭
I think there’s an outage going on :/
Definitely RUclips is having issues. We are unable to see any videos at all right now. 🤬

Domes are linked in the description and the bottom bowls are from dollar general 🌿👍
do any of the begonia flower?
Oh, you know I'll be up there in May
sorry if this is a stupid question, but what kind of soil would you pot up the cuttings with??
