    I have few questions please.. Can I just put my soil rooted snake plant into water only? When it’s time to use fertilizer, do I have to wash the old water away and then put diluted fertilizer water into vase or should I leave the old (clean) water and then add some diluted fertilizer water in the vase? What is the difference between water culture and semi hydro?

    • @paultheplantparent2702
      @paultheplantparent2702 3 дня назад

      @@Official-Geniusasad- I’ve transferred a bunch of snake plants to water culture…but the water needs to stay clean so it won’t rot. I would add the fertilizer to fresh, clean water but only once new roots have formed. I would also start with just a little bit of water….this way the stem/leaves won’t easily rot. Semi hydro uses a medium for the plants like Leca, pon or lava rock, and uses a small reservoir of water at the bottom. One easier way to transfer these could be using semi hydro, with the reservoir being well below the plant roots. This way the root zone is damp from water wicking up, but not waterlogged. Then the roots will grow down, into the reservoir. At that point you can transfer to water culture, which has no medium….just water.

For many novices info such as ambient humidity effecting watering needs within their home is not something most would ever consider. Begonias is such a huge and varied group of plants. I learned the hard way how different they can be. Unlike ,say philodendrons that are overall much more consistent in watering needs. I have talked a lot of people out of purchasing certain begonias because I knew their home environment or their lifestyle was going to mean certain failure. Because I live in the north east coast we gave very inconsistent weather. So I only try to keep certain ones. If I wanted to turn my home into a greenhouse i could keep other types. But the average person just wants to enjoy their plants. Many people come onto sites such as yours hoping to get info that will help them. Sorry if I came off as angry. It's lazy typing not fixing typos and I'm just blunt most of the time. Great tips Paul. It's funny, I have Spanish moss growing everywhere and have to pull some off of the trees becasue they hit me in the face as I walk by. I try not to remove them. When I moved to Florida I was enamored by them. You have presented some great tips. I have had tillandsias for years, but like many people, struggled indoors and outdoors with them. About 6 months ago, I added some to my outdoor hanging plants, attaching them to the wires above the hanging baskets. The weight of each plant caused them to hang upside down. They are doing great. I know that they don't like water sitting on them, but I didn't realize how much they would appreciate being in that position. We are in our rainy season and I brought a white fuzzy one into the house because it is reported not to like a lot of water.
