    Looks like a great truck! Well composed and good handling. A lot of people at my local track run JCon bodies, including me on my buddy. They take an absolute beating and come back for more. I don't know if dirt racers use this trick, but nearly everyone at the carpet track superglues the front / outer sidewalls of their tires to reduce the traction roll. I even saw one guy using the Bob Smith debonder and he said he likes to remove the glue after the tires wear down. It gets a little bit of that traction back

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад

      Interesting. Carpet is really high grip, so little changes will be noticeable. Dirt is a lot more slippery, so I don't know such tuning would be nearly as effective.

      @@RCTNT Yeah that's true, dirt is a different game altogether. We have a surplus of grip on carpet lol

    This entire series has been wonderful I’ve been getting into bashers more & more but I’m pretty much a Crawler enthusiast but my Basher collection has grown I have the Mojave 6s Fireteam , Rlaarlo buggy the one that looks just like a Lazernut a Rustler 4x4 VXL a Losi Lazernut & a 1:10 scale Arrma Senton 550 with upgraded Castle motor /esc. This kit is on my list for 2024 so I may use your build videos as a guide but I’m interested in it because I seems like a durable short course truck or whatever you want it to be. Ive been working on & upgrading my bashers & repairing them but I’m still not completely used to things like the differentials I’ve worked on diffs already & it’s not fun. But the only way to learn is to do it yourself fortunately we have tools now like You Tube some see it as only entertainment but it’s another tool to use & learn from. That’s why I enjoy your channel it’s both entertaining & informative. 👍 🤙

      Let me guess you had to work on the Mojave diff 😂 , I love Arrmas but over 30 years in the hobby , I hadn’t worked on diffs much , till the Arrmas , the debate or facts were if you spent the extra money on a kit , you got quality and machined gears , ⚙️ problem is or was really only techno makes the cross over to basher but like the other kits geared towards racing . They’re smaller and a lot of work just getting to the diffs , than most people who spend their time and money with quality don’t find it practical to bash . That’s where Arrmas and traxxas come to play .

      They're both excellent cars and I'm hard pressed to choose. The mojave body is just going to be better given the composite nature of its design, but really Tekno is the technically better car. I love mine. Building is half (or even more) of the fun for me. I might race it, maybe, but even if I don't I think it was worth the money. The abuse I've put it through is impressive. I run mine with a 4000kv motor on 2S because around here tracks almost always limit 1/10 to 2S, but even still, on a dirt track I'm basically in a full drift the entire way around the track. My only complaint is how it flies. Mine noses down severely on jumps. I don't have a ton of short course experience, so maybe that's just how it is, but with buggies you expect the opposite, right? Something to get used to I guess, adding throttle on lift-off versus tapping the brakes. Or maybe some extra weight in the rear and maybe my next body I don't cut out as many holes so it catches a little more air and stays nose-up. 🤷🏼‍♂ But other than that I friggin' love this thing and will definitely be getting more Tekno kits in the future.

    Does anyone remember when they first got wind of a remote control car you could build yourself ? I do and it was such a fascinating thing to me. I remember seeing them sometimes when we would go camping. In the 90s every camp ground in America probably had some rc car running through the park. If you're ever in Southern California check out Woods Valley Camp ground in Escondido. One of the best spots for rc car driving and full hookups. It was at this very campground I remember seeing rc cars being driven there each time we would go. I reside in Arizona but my brother and I regularly talk about the camp ground when RC cars get brought up. So both my kids have their rc cars, my daughter hasn't finished her RC10T6.4... I showed my daughter a catalog of RC cars and she picked the Team Associated of all cars. She made that decision on her own although I did tell her my first RC car was an RC10T. So maybe she wanted to follow my path. I've been a Losi guy for years so I'm sure some of you understand the brand loyalty thing if you grew up driving a particular brand and stuck with it.
    Those Teknos make some solid RC cars. One day I may buy their four wheel drive stadium truck. Something about those stadium trucks lol. But it's a dying class.
    Thanks for the awesome video, I absolutley enjoy these videos because I can share them with my kiddos. Thanks again and subscribed!

    still great content, just thought it would be cool for you to take your top two sc trucks, and you and a mate run 5 or 10 laps around your "track" at the same time, and then swap trucks and repeat. I'd be interested in watching this and the associated pro4 running around head to head, not really a race just a comparison of two trucks, with two different drivers. running at the same time.
    Happy new years, to you.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks, I may do something like that in future. I'm driving the Baja Rey 2.0 and Traxxas UDR tomorrow with a mate here. That would be a worthy comparison.
      I can tell you now though, there's no comparison in performance and quality between the Pro4 and this car. The associated gives epic value for money in performance and durability but it can't compete with something more than twice the price. Set it up like I have and it'll eat the Pro4 all day.
      (That said, the Pro4 is probably my pick for value performance, it's excellent. We'll cover all this when the 10 reviews are all done, when I bring it all together in the one big SCT and desert truck comparison video).

      @@RCTNT hey cool. The SCT segment is where I'm interested at the moment, so was looking forward to this video. But then, there's something about the Baja Rey 2.0 and UDR where they are more scale acurate in driving dynamics that interests me. Thoughts?

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад

      I've driven those cars together and they're definitely more scale, the UDR in particular. I recently drove the UDR with the BR2.0 and the SBR2.0 in the same session on my home track. The UDR is the perfect middle ground between the too-light BR2.0 and the hulking SBR2.0.
      That said, the Tekno SCT410 2.0 here will destroy all three on a course and not even have to work for it. Vastly different models.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад

      I don't have sufficient experience to give you a useful answer. My feeling is some low ballast in the body but not the wheels would help the car feel planted, but weights in the wheels sounds like a broken axle waiting to happen!

    My first sct and it went together great. I had a couple miss steps from my own lack of attention to detail. My bad. Discrepancies I found were in naming sizes of screws but the guide showed correct screw size that matched up.
    Not an issue but I took the dealers advice in sct wheels and tires not realizing the chat associate was advising 2.2/3.0 wheels that needed 17mil hexes when the kit comes with twelves. Again no problem. Got Traxxas 17mm hexes, ground then down from 8mm thick to four and the cross pins stayed captured w/o grub screws. As long as the wheel nuts stay on so will the hexes and cross pins

    Well. This this is just as impressive on the ground as it was on the bench. It's pretty clear that a lot of thought went into the development of the chassis. It performs well above expectations. I knew it was going to be good, though, so this is not unexpected. Seeing everything that went into the build set the expectations pretty high, and it definitely exceeded them. Well done, Craig, and well done, Tekno.
    I think this sets a pretty high bar for the coming SCT shootout. Are any of the others up to the challenge of besting this on equal or nearly so terms? I'm having serious doubts. Can't wait to see how it all plays out. I wonder if I have enough popcorn to last the entire event? +)

The Losi is excellent in design (apart from that front body lip) but their assembly quality control is a bit ordinary. As far as the drive goes, these two are my favourites to bash and casually track. They're really fun, precise, responsive and durable.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад +1

      The best and least expensive don't really go together, but I have the one here, yet to be reviewed, that I think I'd chose to satisfy that: Losi Baja Rey 2.0.
      Tomorrow, I'll be driving it with a Traxxas UDR, which is ever so slightly bigger and about 50% more expensive here in Australia, so that already puts the Losi in front.
      As for cheaper stuff, Hpi used to make a 1/12 SCT with trailing arms and it was really cheap, but it's discontinued. Losi had a smaller desert racer too, but I don't think it had trailing arms.
      I've spent a while looking around online before answering your question but the Losi BR2.0 is the best answer I've got for you.

      @RCTNT Thank you very much for your time and info. I was also looking at the Losi baja rey 2.0 as an option. it's $729 here in Canada. The Traxxas udr is $995, which seems like a lot. You already mentioned it, but please try some other tires and video this car again. I used to run on a lot off my off-road rc's big knobby tires because i thought i needed as much as possible grip. But a tire that allows the right amount wheelspin makes it way easyer and more predictable to drive. Theoretically you should run all the cars with the same tire to get a fair comparison, but thats another thing. Even then i think that this car will out perform the most... There are some significant differences between a "race bread" rc car and a normal car. Everything is bit more precise which makes the handling different...
    To give example, if i compare my srx2 to a sr10... When i think i need to replace parts on srx because they have play, that is amount of play an sr10 has from new... Both race brands, but one is cheap racecar, other is cheap line of a car...
    Cant wait to see all those cars run in the future in a head to head comparison...

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the thoughtful comment here. I think you picked up on my realisation in the video that I'd chosen poorly for tires. I fully expect this car to be amazing with a little slide in its step.
      I definitely will use the same tires among compared vehicles for any performance comparison, just like I do with the crawlers. It's only fair when tires account for so much! Thanks again for the wisdom 🙏

      @@RCTNT I wouldnt call it wisdom. But i did spend a lot off money on tires to get to that conclusion though, especially on my 1/8 truggy/monstertruck..
      I do have a nice collection rc cars and boats too, but not quite so many as you've got (asspecially in that categorie) and always interested in someone's true opinion about rc's. Btw, past years i started to drive 1/10 2wd buggy, and drive these more and more. They are not real bash/jump cars but more "race" cars. Under the right circumstances they are really a blast to drive (and cheaper to maintain). It looks to me that your circuit would be a good fit for a fast 2wd... I think you might get enthousiastic about these too when you drove one (or maybe you already did?)...

      @peteroosterhoff8850 yes indeed! I have a few 2wd buggies and SCTs here, and more coming this year. You're right, it's perfect for that ☺️
      Oh, and you might say wisdom is the result of applying knowledge and experience, which is what you did with the tires. So, thanks for that, whatever you'd prefer to call it. I think you're exactly right.

    Not really abusive bashing in grass haha But also when I raced on hard packed clay it would definitely get abused more than this so they can take it! Love my SCT410.3 and I recently built the Mt410 2.0 and love the new platform 😊

      Oh really? Geez that's no good. No, not broken yet. Is this a common issue you've found others have too? Seems like the kind of thing they'd fix in an iterative update, let alone a platform overhaul.

      @@RCTNT I don't know if there can be a difference in prices between markets. In Spain and other European countries, the Mojave 4S is €529 and the Slash Ultimate is €559 (I would buy the Mojave) while the Tekno is €529 plus electronics, which will hardly be less than €750 in total. It looks quality but it is somewhat expensive. My UDR cost me €800.

    What temperatures is that motor running at after a full 3S pack?
    I’m unsure whether to go for a 3660 3200kv on 3S, or 3660 2400kv on 4S.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  5 месяцев назад +1

      I'd probably go the 3200kv for general utility, as you'll still get decent speed and even better runtime out of a 2S battery if you choose to use that. A 2400kv will be a little slow on a 3S but quite okay on 4S, of course. I don't know what temp the motor was after the 3S runs, but 'warm' rather than 'hot' should be enough to tell you that it was happy :)
      If you really, really want it to kick, volt up and gear down. The car is pretty light though, so I reckon you'll get away with an extra pinion tooth or two on the 3200kv on 3S and be very happy indeed. Both are good options, tho.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад +1

      If you already have the pinions, try the 21 on 2s first and stick with that if you're happy. If you want more, swap to the smaller pinion and see what you think.
      I got this adage from JRH of Holmes Hobbies for when you want more speed: "volt up, gear down". It's served me well so far. Happy experimenting!

    Some of these high priced kits were driven by snooty drivers when I was a kid especially team associated what. I love now I retired at the age of 40. After serving in the United States military the same guy that would kick us out when we were kids still doing the same thing a sales associate selling high priced kits. Buy what you can afford it's useless buying these high price kits unless you race nearly on pro level

      If you want value, the Pro4 SC10 in Australia is amazing, and I understand the Slash is priced pretty well in USA. It's crazy expensive here, nearly as much as the Tekno, but different markets have different pricing, evidently.
      Buy it, run it, upgrade if you like, but most importantly, enjoy it! Cheers

    I don't see the point in buying and building a truck, that is designed for racing, that is going to cost around a grand. For about that price of a good bit less Traxxas sells trucks and buggies designed for bashing. There are great bashers out there that you can buy two for the price of the Tekno. The only Tekno made for bashing is the MT410.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад +2

      I guess it depends on the market. My vxl slash with necessary upgrades to toughen it up for bashing ended with a total spend similar to this thing. But that's in Australia! Maybe it's different elsewhere in the world, in which case that's a fair point :)

    • @RcPlayer-tt2vw

      Because traxxas don’t perform precisely for high speed bashing for people more race oriented. For traxxas even arrma to be as durable and cheap you have a lot of SLOP” and flexibility that will only allow you so much speed and control , thing is you generally don’t want to bash a rc that’s fine tuned and geared for racing , they’re usually not as big and hard to access the diffs .

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  8 месяцев назад +3

      Makes sense, and I think that's how I'm looking at it too. This engineering is on a different level to the RTRs I have. They all have their place, but the higher cost of the Tekno is evident in the end result, I think. Not for everyone, but if you have one, you know!

      I think in some cases people prefer higher end stuff because it holds a certain quality over it. I just recently bought what was probably the very last Losi 22T 4.0 in circulation. I found it at my local Ace Hardware since they have a Horizon Hobby store front. I bought this losi mostly for nostalgic reasons, I've been using Losi rc cars for 30 years. So folks like myself who been around know there are several top tier rc car makers but Traxxas or Arma are not in this category because they mostly tailor to new rc enthusiasts who did not grow up going to the local rc track. The other thing we all enjoy is actually putting the car together with a customized electronic setup. RTRs that Traxxas sells in my opinion are pointless in this build your own rc car.
