Ahh, superb! Miehina-san is such a lovely person! And such a lovely geiko-san, too! And she is so modest about her singing. ^.^ She is very "iki" and I hope she stays for quite a while!
I’m so happy they included some footage of her dancing. I take traditional Japanese dance lessons and for a Japanese person I’m pretty tall (5’10”) but apparently Miehina around my height so it’s nice to see a taller person dancing. Edit: just to avoid confusion, I’m not Japanese myself, I meant for a dancer of traditional Japanese dance I’m pretty tall.
OMG! she is perfect. since maiko are apprentice and still learning *but still great* i do see more grace in this geikos movements. i wish i knew her words she is saying...but it's ok. i love her singing and dancing!
OMG,she loves singing at shamisen...Weird I though she loves dance after so many years of dancing as maiko :-) I wonder if she'll become a jikata geiko one day after she practice her shamisen skills :-) Miehina is my favourite Geiko from Miyagawa-cho
The "natural" teeth setting is seen as youthful or plucky. Fixed teeth are not bad, but seem more "adult." Many choose not to do it, but the more modern Japanese tend to have it done.
@Akashia14Moka She's absolutely wonderful. She's in my top ten geisha. ^^ Kikuyu-han out ranks everyone however, because she helped me in so many ways without even knowing she has. Kikuyu-han, Ichimame-han, Miehina-han, and several others have all been on my list of favorites for a long while now. :)
Wow, Miehina-han looks wonderful in this as a geiko-han, I loved her pictures as a maiko-han as well. I did notice an issue with what was said in this by the narratort. Maiko-han are the only geisha that style their hair while "on duty". Geiko-han wear katsura, which are wigs made of real hair that are styled in the Takashimada. The only time their real hair is styled is when they are "off duty" and in everyday clothes. Their would be too short for styling, it's cut the day before their erikae.
Geisha is not an English word, ask any Japanese. It's just a custom, that in Kyoto they call themselves geiko. A geisha in Tokyo would never call herself a geiko, and a geisha in Kyoto would never call herself a geisha. Of course few of the watchers know this. But they could have used "geiko" in the subtitle and write a short explanation at the beginning like (Geiko = geisha in Kyoto).
Geisha *is* the English word for Geiko. Ask most English speaking persons what this woman is, they will say Geisha. But of course they have proper Japanese labels that most non-Japanese will not know about.
@@moushimoushi8963 arigato ^^ i just found a video of her while maiko but i couldn't understand it as it's japanese but i saw her wear normal clothes while off duty
@@princerschannel7426 ah! Could you please direct me to that video? Pontocho doesn't normally have documentaries or videos featuring their individual artists, it's one of the most closed off kagai which is saying something especially in Kyoto. I've seen a documentary or video feature in every other kagai of Kyoto and quite a few from the kagai outside of Kyoto as well, but Pontocho just really doesn't seem to have a lot when it comes to those kinds of things^^
OMG she looks just like those girls of the beautiful old paints.
They listen.
Best of ruck.
wow i like this.
Miehina always looks so beautiful and ethereal. 😍
Miehina you sing wonderful you are my faveret geiko (geisha). I want to be like you:)

WONDERFUL, simply Wonderful!
Everything about her is so cute. Especially her laugh
SHe seems so nice and humble (and not to mention very skilled).

Geiko in Miyagawa-cho dance and play shamisen, they aren’t forced into being either jikata (musicians) or tachikata (dancers).
She was so sweet when she smiles even though she had fangs.
thank you for posting! informative video
i wish i could go there and see things like this in person.

No, it isn t exact : in Japan, youth can stop school at 15, not because girls become maiko
cool video, thanks : )

This song, is it Ujicha ? :D
awesome
subarashi
Is it too expensive to put the subtitles?
No, you don't graduate at Jr High, lol, they stop studying at a normal school when they become a maiko n.n
You re welcome !
ps: cute avatar :3
In Japan it's not popular even among young girls to have their teeth fixed. They accept their own body as given.

It's a pity that even though Miehina san says "geiko" it is converted into geisha in the English translation. In Kyoto geishas are called geiko.
What is miehina's
District
Meihina's district is Miyagawacho ^^
