  • A short video on how to save your cell phone if it has been subjected to water damage. I have used this little life hack many times over the years on many different cell phones with good success.
How to Save Your Water Damaged Cell Phone with Rice.
    1. Make sure NOT to power on your cell phone
    2. If your cell phone has a case, be sure to remove it
    3. In a glass bowl or Tupperware container, add rice
    4. Submerge the phone in the rice fully and make sure the lid is sealed
    5. Let the phone sit in the container for 24-48 hours
    6. Test cell phone
If you still get a water damage indicator on your cell phone, try placing the phone near a mild heat source like near the back of your computer or TV screen. NEVER use a hair dryer on your phone as the heat is too much and can cause more moisture and steam to occur within the cell phone.
I hope you found this rice trick for cell phone video helpful. Again, it has helped my save many of cell phone from water damage over the years. Sometimes my phones have fell into pools, toilets or bathtubs and it's never fun worrying that you will need to buy a new phone.

Yesterday, I used my Google Pixel 7 Pro in the swimming pool for about 10 minutes. Suddenly, a warning appeared on the screen, and I realized that the SIM slot was not in the phone at all, allowing a lot of water to enter. I immediately turned it off. I left the phone as it was, but there is still water inside. After watching your video, which had many positive comments, I decided to follow your advice and placed my phone in a box as you suggested. I hope it gets fixed. I will keep it in the box for 60 hours and see what happens afterward.

      @@JMGENTERPRISES sorry forgot to update!
So what I had done since I didn't have rice was put the corner piece of a towel in the charging part (just in case) and wrapped it around my phone, then put it somewhere away from cool air/AC to remove the cold temperature my phone had been exposed to for a few hours. I let a 8-9 hours pass to be safe for excess water from the freezer that may have turned into vapor or frozen particles on my get sucked up and removed by the towel.
I hit the power button on my phone after that and miraculously, it turned back on like nothing happened. As of 2 months passing from when this happen (I am writing this comment via my phone right now), my phone still works perfectly fine. No signs of life loss, short-circuiting, slowly, component damage, anything that would accelerate the need for me to get a new phone!
Although I didn't do your method exactly, it still gave me an idea to try out and hope that my phone just got stalled and needed time to recover safely before powering back on. Thank you for the video- I appreciate it, it was helpful and gave me hope that my phone can still work. For anyone reading this, don't give up or lose hope, you have to try!
TLDR: thawed out my phone with a towel for 8-9 hours, turned it on and still works normal!

In a huge germophobe so before phones had decent water resistance I used rice a lot and it worked every single time. Haven't had the neeed for it because of water resistance in newer phones, but a few weeks back I dropped my expensive Sony so it's a hole in the back=water eventually got in and my microphone didn't work. Did the rice trick and it works again. I've done this trick probably 20 times with different phones, it always works. I don't care when others say that it's bs. I've seen it work so many times.

This method really does work. I did this with a phone back in the 90s and it worked. I also used it recently on the Motorola Razr. It takes longer with the new phones because they are so tightly sealed. Be patient, it may take more than 24 hours. It may take a few days or a week. I just slide the phone down inside the bag of rice and tape it back up. Good Luck!

However, the short circuit did occurred which meant the screen of my phone turn green and black instead of my original wall paper. Then, I faster switched it off, and put it into the uncooked-rice container for 24 hours. I did used air-dryer(only air mode/little hot mode) to dry the phone twice in the middle when I took it out and dry for 20 minutes. Luckily it works!!! My phone still functioning well until today.

I have always been sceptical of this method and have never got any of my phones wet. However, I recently got soaked at work (part and parcel of working in Dewatering) and my phone got wet too. Initially it was still working and then died.
So when I got back home (2 days later) I thought I would try this...I just checked and it actually looks like it worked. It showed signs of life after an overnight stint with rice.
I have put it back in the rice so it gets the full 24hrs treatment and hopefully it will charge up tonight. I googled for a vid to see if I had done it right, and found this one. Cheers for sharing😁👍

Generally this isn't good advice, sure it dried out, but water isn't clean! It has minerals and containment's in it that get left behind.
These need removing before you power on your phone again, you need to see where any corrosion is happening and remove it, and maybe re-solder or replace parts that the water has corroded through. You need to look for any shorts in your rails before you cycle power through it or you will blow more caps!
Basically DO NOT STICK IT IN RICE OR TRY POWER CYCLE/CHARGE IT, if its still on when it gets wet, turn it off, and get it to a repair shop and hope they can save it. Basically keep your phone away from sources of water!
(FYI your battery or screen will probably need replacing, batteries and backlights are not friends with water!)

Rice won't help dry the phone out, and possibly even makes oxidization of solder joints worse. Even using a sock or something, the powder gets inside the phone and holds moisture close to the board longer. You want to displace the water with 90+% alcohol or at least vacuum it out and put it in front of a fan. But the rice is at best a placebo and at worst damaging to the device.

Hello, I have an iPod touch that I have been using for 7 years. I got it for Christmas in 2016 and I used it all the time until a few days ago, it ended up in the washing machine and it wasn't working. My mom tried putting it in a bag of rice, but after 7 or 8 hours I tried to plug it in to see if it was working, and it wasn't turning on. I then did some research and discovered that you have to put it in for at least 48 hours. So I asked my mom to put the iPod back in the rice for 48 more hours. I just tried charging it again an hour ago, and it still wasn't turning on. I also tried plugging it into my computer and it still didn't work. I don't know I'll get to use it again. I really hope I can still use it because I had a lot of important things on there, such as my photos, videos, even my old Flipaclip animations I made in 2017-2020. If I can't use it anymore, I'm literally going to cry. *PLEASE HELP ME* 😭😭😭

Random: i put my tv remote in the washer by accident. I didnt know about the rice method. But for one week my remote didnt work. And on like a week and a half or 2 weeks later it started to work. So its crazy how these modern electronics work even if they get drowned in water. That lets you know that not only is these products amazing for what they do. But they cant be destroyed by water. Its insane if you really think about it.
PS: I was about to throw my remote away. I even bought a new remote . So just know, that hand held electronics that get wet or drowned wet and stop working. Once they 100% get dry, they come back to life. And if i wanted to buy the exact same remote, it would of cost me $139.99 . So so happy i didnt throw it away. ✌️

I accidentally dropped my phone in my pool, it shut off at first and then turned back one so I thought it was fine and I was using it. However about 9 hours later I was watching TikTok and the screen went black but the sound was still playing. About 20 seconds later it started flashing colors and went completely black. I just put it in rice but am scared it is not going to work.
Do you know if it is fixable or what is wrong with it?

Should be labeled "How to destroy your device in 3 minutes or less". In all Seriousness if you have nothing on the device of value then this method isn't hurting nothing as if it don't work you just lost your device. but if your trying to save family photos etc. you may just cause more damage than good, the reason being that water is not actually conductive its the minerals in the water that conduct electricity so by using rice you are removing the water and leaving the minerals on the board, they may not harm anything but if they bridge the wrong components you could fry something important.

I forgot that my phone was in my pocket while I was at the beach, so it got wet. The on/off button responds, but the touch screen doesn't work. I can't turn off my phone because the screen won't respond so I waited for the battery to drain. I hope this method will work; currently, my phone has been in rice for 12 hours.

Best to never power on the device if it's been exposed to water. That is when the true damage can occur. Electronics and water do not mix. I know it's been a few days since this happened to your phone. Please let me know how it turned out! Yes, I would still try the rice method!

Decent rice doesn't have particles in it, or dust. I keep seeing that, & people saying it gets stuck in the earbud port, lol. 😂 Unless you're *cramming* it in there, just tilt the phone & it slides back out, IF any gets in there. & I don't see how. How NOT gentle are you guys being?! 🙄🤣😂 "Particles." Lmao. Rice is grains, solid! & Don't buy any weird broken or beat up or dusty rice anyway bc it would be mushy if you cooked it.
