[FEH] The Hauteclere Bruiser Build. Vantage And Deflect Melee Are A Powerful Combination.

- I introduce to you the bruiser build. Using the synergy between Vantage and Deflect Melee 3, you can maximize the power of high attack, low speed characters. Michalis in particular does incredibly well with this build thanks to his access to the Legendary Weapon Hauteclere which reduces all special cooldowns by 1 and increases special damage by 10. A super power Ignis from Michalis will kill alot of people so he won't even need to take damage on the enemy phase in many cases unless he fights more than 1 enemy.
Edit, I may have messed up on the arena scoring info as I was thinking about a different video. Now that I think about it, Azura and Caeda should have roughly the same score, so the scoring should be the 712 range. Sorry for the mistake.

Somehow, I keep forgetting that Deflect Melee is an incredible seal for Player Phase.
Man I wish their was a skill that was -Spd , + Def
IS give us a Slow Fortress skill!

...mfw attack weight would be broken op on brave non-quad builds/brash assault

SD King Otaks You COULD do this with your super Beruka. In fact, don't you use Iote seal on someone else anyways?
Jake Stavinsky she lacks the attack Michalis has. The only reason she kills is the ignis proc or if the enemy is blue or low defense.
SD King Otaks Fair enough but with this she should charge that Ignis no prob.
However, (now that I think about it) you miss out on guard since you have Vantage

Reminds me of Berkua, but it’s Michalis.
It also works with brave weapons. You can get 4 charge provided you initiate and are doubled. Brave weapons allow you to have a strong player phase, while having vantage and deflect enemy also give you a strong enemy phase.
Yep it works well with brave weapons, however you will be at more of a disadvantage against high defense wtd enemies and steady breath enemies.

As a Michalis main, this is beautiful beyond words.
This kind of build might work really well for Alfonse with Brazen ATK/DEF, Slaying Edge, and Ignis. Nice idea and good use of a fairly overlooked seal!
We just have so many good seals and this seal is one that has to be forged so that’s an extra cost so I don’t blame people who haven’t tried it yet. If there’s one thing we can’t accuse IS of it would be skimping out on good seals.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that it's only used to take many units down, but once.
Michalis Bonus seasons gonna be a blast once I get to setting this build up.

I would love to try this build but unfortunately I have no Michalis left at all, I wanna try this on Minerva but she needs to be +Def -Spe to do this.
This is actually and awesome idea for a build, I would really like to try it out, but I don't have an Ike to feed Michalis. If I give him heavy blades 3 in the form of the seal, what I could give him as his A slot?

This is actually similar to how I built up my B!Ike. Reverse desperation on his weapon works a bit like Vantage + Deflect Melee, and I run him with Wrath for the +10 true damage on Aether. Of course, B!Ike works well against all damage, not just melee, and is the better unit today, but I guess you can say Michalis kinda pioneered this play style, if a bit more rudimentary and restricted.

Where did you find the redone FE8 Attack theme? I have been looking all over for the reduxes from FEH.
I personally opted for the Close Defense 6 build, using Noontime and Quick Riposte.
So far, he's beaten every melee unit I've thrown him at, even taking 0 damage from Ayra at one point.
Of course, I prefer to not test that too much, and usually have Robin deal with swords.
I know cherche and Gerome work well enough with brave axe, but I was wondering about how a vantage build would work for them. What do u think?

Bike could run this too but Steady Breath's opportunity cost is too great. He also gets flexibility in picking a seal since Urvan has built-in deflect all. Odd Def Wave when IS?

Close Defense or Steady Stance is probably better than Fortress Defense. FD is the budget option since its available at 4* from Seth.
Omni H if only I had a second Shiro I would use SS and BK is no option because he's my main leader plus Summoner support
Wow, i really loved this, since michalis is one of my favorites. I was thinking about give him heavy blade (i have an extra ike), quick riposte, his budget threaten def, aether and atk +3 seal with 2 merges, also the atk refine for weapon and he would reach 56 atk, but this is way more cheaper and also effective. what is the better option to skill A if don't have brazen atk def? Defiant atk 3?
Defiant attack unfortunately will not activate on the enemy phase so it’s actually entirely useless in this build for the first battle anyway. I recommend close defense or steady stance as alternatives or fortress defense as a budget option if you have Seth.

Hey! I got an extra Christmas chrom and an considering giving brazen A/D to michalis with this same build. The idea being that then you are in the vantage threshold you tank more and hit harder . This synergizes better than close def 3 imo. Thots?
Yeah he’ll do 10+ more damage than my michalis in the video, whom uses fortress defense 3. He’ll take more initial damage but it’s worth it for the extra damage to secure harder kills. It’s definitely the optimal skill for this build I think.

Can you use steady breath+aether for this? I feel like it could be good to keep him alive through multiple engagements, but might make you mess up against some units because the damage is not flat like ignis...
An infantry/armor unit can. Michalis can’t inherit SB though.

I actually gave Michalis Noontime for added self-sustainability (has Quick Riposte in B, so it helps him maintain Quick Riposte up), but after seeing this build...I am actually thinking if I should change him, but I don't know...since I am using Michalis mostly for enemy phase defense.
I did not like that build so I made this build. I am happy with the results of this build.
Finally something to do with my 4 star Michalis.
Is Fortress Def mandatory os just used to maximize his bulk against the hits and Ignis damage, since he is only doing real damage with his special?
Fortress defense is a budget option.
The reason for deflect melee not working against dragons is because that even though their attack range is a melee distance, their attack type is magic, and deflect melee is meant for physical melee, not magical melee
Deflect melee probably doesn't work with dragons because they do magic damage, although I'm not entirely sure.
Do you think is it better to use Steady Stance instead of fortr defense or brazen atk/def?.. I have 2 Shiros bad IVs.. thanks
You want the defense on both phases so steady stance isn’t great

The Sword Icon is not an A slot, its a weapon forge of the Hauteclere
this makes me wanna do ward fliers now, but i only summoned minerva once... e.e
The only problem I see with this it that Michalis is left alone after he killed the enemy on enemy phase, there will most likely be a unit behind the unit he is attacking.
Have you considered Distant Counter with Iote's in the Seal slot with maybe Quick Riposte, Vantage, or a ranged Breaker in the B slot?

Actually the biggest archer threat is bow Lyn which has sacaes blessing, which makes distant counter obsolete...
Brave Bow Bridelia, Klein, Halloween Jakob, Innes, and Clarisse are all pretty common arena threats from what i've seen so while Lyn is the biggest threat she isn't the only one which means the build still has use which is the point of what I'm trying to get at.
You're seriously better off doing something else with Michalis like the build in this video or even a HB one rather than make a check out of him for units you won't be seeing often and that you can check with other common units like Robin and whatnot.
Merging copies increases his speed which may let him not get doubled on some targets, would you still merge?
You just end up fighting even more higher merged enemies if you merge him so it balances out
What about magic users? Does he still struggle?
Edit: A slot can be Life and Death and C slot is free? Any recommendations?

Sir you have discovered an amazing build. I wonder though if the build could work better on B!Ike, right now Michalis might be the best user, but depending on the Sacred Seal Slots in the future, B!Ike might have the upper hand because his Seal Slot is free with this build.
Yeah bike already has this effect in his weapon so he has the sacred seal slot free. However michalis has the 10 extra damage on specials so they’re pretty close in strength I would say.
Can this work with a Atk+ Spd- Minerva? Is it really important to be doubled?
There's no point in deflect melee if you aren't doubled.
That's a no then. I think even at 30 speed, she can still avoid doubles from half the pool of heroes.
Would aether work better instead of ignis if michalis has heavy blade
If he can activate heavy blade then it would be pretty good. At 50 atk unmerged, his attack lags behind fury sword units like ryoma who can get to 56. Using hone fliers on michalis might hurt this build as well since it might make him too fast to actually use deflect melee on player phase.
Atk Tactic on a mixed team should work well.
But first you have to get a team that can proc the skill and a Siegbert for the skill itself though...
Yet a Michalis buffed with Atk and Def Tactic could be a threat if the build is used!

This build only works against enemies that double you, so the faster you are, the less effective the build is since the deflect melee seal will be wasted when you could have used a different seal.
Seeing this set work wonders just makes me incredibly salty at IS limiting Steady Breath to infantry and armors

Yes its an exclusive upgrade for Hauteclere. Well you sure can replace it, but don't expect of any of the results you saw in the video.

Dragons attack from one space away but they technically use their breath also their attacks do res damage not defense
How would this build work with fury?
It would work for first the battle, but not so great if you want to beat more than 1 enemy.
choices for A slot and C slot?
I would recommend Close defense and panic ploy.

Bruiser build has I nice ring to it, but how about we call it "The buy one, get one 80% off" build because that's really what's happening here.
I would think sturdy or armored blow would also work if this is a player phase build.
It’s not a player phase build. It’s both phases.
So do you have to attack first
If you want to fight WTD enemies, yes you do. If you fight neutral or wta enemies then it’s not necessary but you won’t see the benefits of deflect melee as much.
Omni H it sucks that I can't use michalis or minerva anymore, I have to use my actual mergable Cherche in order to get in to tier 20.
Yeah the worst thing about the continually rising cutoff is not being able to use whoever I want. I included that feedback in the official survey from IS. I also told them to create more arena tiers with higher rewards since it’s almost not worth it anymore to try and stay in tier 20.
Looks like a great build, it's just too bad it takes forever to build up Divine Dew. Maybe someday, after I upgrade Eldigan, Minerva, and Takumi.

Benjamin Castellanos Actually I prefer Valter, he has better stats than Narcian in all sense, besides his legendary weapon reduces the special cooldown by 1, inheriting things like renewal, death blow and the sacred seal of the Lote's shield can be a pretty good unit

Ignis do dmg 80% of his def, thats why
Dragon's are unaffected by deflect melee because they do magic damage instead of physical.
Breath weapons on dragons count as magic weapons, that would be why deflect melee doesn't work.

So why is it that you don't mute the in-game music for the footage you're dubbing over with the GBA combat theme?
That's forcing the music volume balance to go out of whack so you can drown out the in-game music with the theme added in post.
I'm pretty sure you've done this in multiple videos, and it's amateur-hour editing.
Because no one has ever mentioned it so I don’t know if it’s better to keep the in game music on or not. I can’t improve if no feedback is given. I happen to like the battle sound effects so I went that way with it.
I'm not saying the sound effects are the issue, I'm saying that I'm STILL hearing the Enemy Phase music over your FE8 combat theme added in post, and it's dumb.
Can always kill your BGM Volume in Settings whenever you're grabbing footage for these videos so you don't need to jack up the volume of whatever track you decide to add during video editing/compositing/whatever.
