      Steph's ankles were a huge problem early in his career, and there was a specific doctor (or trainer, I forget) that he himself credits with turning his career around. So, as cursed as the Knicks are, really any other team (outside of, say, Phoenix -- they have some kind of fountain of youth over there) would've had the wrong ingredients to set his career right.

    He's right about that series. They had em on the ropes. But GS responded. Chris Paul did get hurt but nobody mentions how they ran it back the next year and KD gets hurt and GS closed it out in Houston again. Both those series were amazing.

    • @tigera6

      GS without KD play better against Houston , thats crazy but just how things are. Houston force GS to play 1-on-1 basketball, but GS like to move the ball around with player running screen non-stop. KD actually make it works for Houston because he just wants to play 1-on-1, hes not running screen or anything. Had KD not went down in the series against Houston, GS might have lost, thats the more crazy thing.

      I just want to say thanks for the likes and replies. But I wanted to point out, that I'm not sure a chef curry under a Mike D'Antoni would be the same chef curry we know. For example, defense. I think Steph benefited a lot from coach Mark Jackson and Don Nelson in terms of defense and grit. I'm not sure if he would learn those same lessons if he went to New York. I have no doubt he would be a better offensive player than he is now (which already he is legendary), but would he have developed as an overall player is what I'm wondering. Since I started watching basketball in the 2016 playoffs, I do know one thing. There is more to basketball than just scoring, when it comes to winning it all.

    Drafting Steph Curry was just the first hurdle. The real test was when he had repeated ankle injuries in his first few years. Back then it was not looking good for him and you have to give Golden State management all the credit to not only stick with him, but gave him a long term contract. It was a genius move that also allowed Kevin Durant to be signed later as a free agent. In 2015 when GSW won the first championship, Curry was either the fourth or fifth highest paid person in the team. Some other superstars would have made a big stink, but not Curry.

    Luckily for Curry he wasn’t drafted by the Knicks. Otherwise he would have had a whole different career with all the pressure and criticism in New York. He went to the right organization, that provided the right environment to allow him to take all the crazy shots form everywhere on the floor and push the boundaries of the game. He changed the game, like it or not. He’s the face of the style played right now. He’s not like lebron that’s just has a powerful game, that impacts and fit any team, so the criticism and the expectation would have really make things so much harder dom him. And obviously the partnership he has with green and klay is crucial to his development. The way they complement each other, it’s a perfect fit.

      Agreed on Klay but not sure about the former. D’Antoni would’ve given him the keys rights away or quicker than GS. He had the Ernie stripes behind Monte Ellis and also had a few injuries. But all in all I do agree as a sad hopeless fan of the Knicks that he is much better off in San Fran 😭😭😭

    • @Arratick
      @Arratick 2 года назад +8

      I think it's understated how fragile and risky Steph looked in his early career; he spent a good chunk of his first few years dealing with ankle injuries. Steph back then was only SLIGHTLY better than Zion right now in terms of health reputation. People would always bring up his ankles in every discussion. I don't think he would have thrived in New York because of these issues. GS bet on Steph really early and gave him a contract extension despite his reputation as being injury prone. Would NY have done the same for him? He was drafted to a low-expectation team in GS; NY would have ate him alive.
      I think he would still be a really good player, but his career would have taken a really different trajectory if he was drafted by NY. He could easily have been traded away by the Knicks if they felt he was not worth the risk to keep around. Would Steph still be the player he was if he was traded in 2011 to the Bucks instead of Monte Ellis? Would he be as great as he was if was put in a losing situation, and then getting traded every year or two to another team? That takes a huge toll on a player's confidence and psyche.
      It's basically a game of chance of getting onto an organization that believes and trusts you enough to let you develop and also build around you with free agents/draft picks; I don't know if Steph would have had that luxury in his early career anywhere else other than in Golden State. That trust paid off in dividends with MVPs and championships. I also think Steph will end up a Warrior for his entire career, if he has anything to say about it.

    Obviously he’s a rookie and on a tanking team. But I’d love to see josh giddey on to talk about his court awareness at such a young age. And maybe playing basketball in Australia. Plus I think he could use a vets push to be a more competitive shooter. I wish he was with kd because of the length comparisons and what he could teach him. But I’m glad he’s balling with the nets too it’s very fun to watch.

      Wrong!!!!! The NBA isn't like the NFL there's a lottery and the Knicks get screwed and other teams "jump up" LeBron leaves and the Cavs get two number one picks. AD gets traded to the Lakers and they New Orleans gets the number one pick even tho NY had the best odds. GS got the second pick via a trade and they picked wrong but still the point is the NBA lottery is rigged to help reward and assist certian franchises.

    Nobody remembers currys career start was horrible, he was being called a bust, and glass ankles and couldnt stay healthy. I remember when gs traded monta for bogut everybody was saying they were dumb and shouldve traded curry instead. Its amazing to see how curry changed his career after getting healthy, that wouldve never happened in that dumpster fire they call the knicks

    • @mrmacross
      @mrmacross 2 года назад +3

      I don't think his career start was horrible. He was mostly healthy his first two seasons, during which he averaged 18 ppg on 44% from 3. He came in second in Rookie of the Year voting (Tyreke Evans won, but to be fair he put up big numbers) and was Rookie of the Month three times. Curry didn't miss serious time with ankle injuries until his third season. He was basically the player most people thought he could be, while Minnesota who drafted two PGs right ahead of Curry got one bust (Flynn) and another guy who wouldn't show up for another two years (Rubio).

    The Knicks will more likely just bench Steph after the first two ankle injuries and then plummet his stock rock bottom while never blaming themselves for it. Its not only about talent, its also the culture behind the team. Linsanity would’ve lasted longer had D’Antoni stopped Melo from being a toxic teammate and formed a winning culture with the team he had back then.

    Curry is perfect as a dual on ball and off ball threat and all the player movement enhances his gravity creating easy opportunities but can you imagine Curry’s counting stats if he spent his career being coached by this man lol. This guy opened it up for Nash to be two time mvp, Linsanity was a thing making a g leaguer look like one of the best in the league, and had harden averaging 35 8 and 8. Curry’s points created per attempt in pick and rolls and efficiency trumps those guys so it might have been a sight to behold. Then again New York probably would have found a way to tank it on him anyway.

Others see the future. It is what it is. I'm certainly not mad about it. I'm just glad that a player like Steph gets the freedom to be the talent that he is. Everything worked out as it should have.

    Steph shined on Golden State because of the playbook of Mark Jackson and Steve Kerr. Which are both Shooters so they created a shooting style of play.
    I don't think they would have unleashed Steph's full potential w/o Dray and Klay. They just mix so well.
    Even KD. I think the style of play he played on Golden State Fit him perfectly. On Brooklyn however he turned back into the Iso game of his OKC days.
