The reason Steve Novak was hitting all those shots, the reason Landry Fields and Jared Jeffries (who was absolutely awful before Jeremy Lin got playing time) started playing well out of nowhere is BECAUSE of Jeremy Lin. He got into the paint, drew the defense, and actually LOOKED for his open teammates. Before that, their offense was... give the ball to Melo and everyone stands around and watches him ISO for 20 seconds. There was 0 ball movement. 0 chemistry.
Jeremy Lin utilized every one of his teammates. Novak was always a superb 3-point shooter... but his teammates barely looked for him before that. Lin gave him the wide open shots he needed to excel. Lin played the pick n roll with Tyson Chandler and Amar'e Stoudemire to perfection and gave them easy baskets. Same thing with Jeffries. And he had great chemistry with Landry Fields, as well.

Nah man. Every player that gets minutes on the floor has the support of their team, that's just a plain fact. And Jeremy got plenty of playing time after New York.
He's more of what happens when people have unrealistic expectations including fans. The teams he went to after was expecting him to bring that Linsanity magic. If him or his coaches/team would have sat him down and focused on his strengths to become a consistent role player instead of trying to be a super star, he'd still be in the league today. Now, he eventually did that in Charlotte which led to him earning a starting spot in Brooklyn but by then he took too long and it became too little too late

As a former highlight producer at NBA TV, we got early video feed that many did not. I saw Lin do his little pre-game thing where he acted like he was reading some ancient scripture that his teammate was holding. The Knicks highlight was already finished for the night. I went to my supervisor and lobbied for him to add that to the highlight ( it is called the "stab"). He did it. Next thing you know, ESPN changed their highlight overnight to match the one we had. So of course I pat myself on the back for adding to the "folklore" of Linsanity

Such a "What if" player. Intrinsically Lin was really skilled, you could see that "it" factor from the way he played hard and never feared to get in the paint, or shoot a game-winner. He did some good seasons as a primary point guard, noticeably in Brooklyn, before his knee injury, but I remember foundly his time in Charlotte as the 6th man as well. And then Houston had the audacity to apologize & ask for him back (with the dreaded poison pill) after Lin's popularity & skills were shown with the Knicks. Really? He didn't even recognize his talent. HIs assistants had to suggest to play him when there was literally no one else left.

@@KennnnyT I wanted to see more of the Lin/Kemba backcourt. Thought Lin's career trajectory could've been a lot different if those two got to play together for another season or two.

@@patrickreynolds5262 Early on, yeah. But D'Antoni's style was the best fit for Lin, and once D'Antoni saw what he had in Lin he gave him the keys to drive the car any which way Lin saw fit.

Lin crushed the box score for the Rockets when Harden was injured. Career highs. He also played insane defense and an all around high motor game.

The only thing I love more than this podcast on this channel is the comment section here. Everyone knows their basketball. Its refreshing to read after debating with casuals on Twitter & IG lol

Lin is the unseen talent that people don't notice. His time came and Linsanity arrived in great form. He should've had more support from NY Knicks mgmt

other 'media' analysts have taken jeremy lin to task recently for his lack of 'consistency' or 'greatness', as a mean to blemish linsanity. what amazes me most after all these years is that former players of stature still continue to take cheap shots at an unexpected phenomenon that doesn't need to be qualified. it captured the imagination of the sporting world and beyond. at the center of it all was a humble, classy young man who endured struggles. his play provided an uplift that could be felt deep in the heart, all whilst playing against some of the game's best. for a sports fan, that's as REAL as it gets. i am grateful that i had the privilege to watch linsanity unfold.

At this point, the team should raise a banner for "Linsanity" in MSG - especially since the NY Knicks haven't had much to celebrate in more than 20 years. Haha!

It's crazy. I'm from New York. And seeing those games he played was fantastic. The media build up the hype and as soon Lin had one bad game, he can't play, he looks scared. He can ball, period.

that was so awesome. i really wish he could've gone further in the nba. i remember when he was in houston there was this one stat who had the highest percentage finishing around the rim from x feet or something like that. Lebron James was 1 and Jlin was #2. so i went back and looked at his season highlights of fast breaks and he was so good at finishing at the rim

Kenny Atkinson is the smartest coach in the NBA today. Seriously, if you like international or underrated players, you realize that he's the only one who "gets it".
