Jason-I can get a 2019 Rocky Mountain Instinct BC 90 with GX for $3600.00 + about 150.00 for shipping, considering list is about 6100.00 seems like a great deal, some place in Idaho has a few. I sold my 2018 Spectral 6.0 last week for a good price so looking around
STILL loving my 2019 BC! I was at Dupont for 4 days last week and at age 65 rode for 5 hours one day then rode the next day, NO pedal bob at all and soaks up everything down hill, AWESOME bike
Thanks for video, I am 6 months away from having enough saved for AL70. Your video help me decide that I am doing the right thing. Plus for me I live a 20 min bike ride from Rocky Mountain head office here on the North Shore and I like the idea in supporting a local company and knowing it is a good bike. Thanks again.
Even though I don't need a bike, I watch all your reviews. I just bought a 2019 Hightower and as you probably know, it doesn't have a lot of room for a larger water bottle. After seeing this video I am pretty sure I will be buying that Hip Pack with your discount. Love what you're doing and cant thank you enough for all the valuable info you provide.
Jay, your reviews are the best in the business, awesome to hear what you have to say while riding the bike on a trail, and giving us a real time feed back, helps us out with narrowing down our choices a lot. I just bought a Giant full squish about 2 weeks ago, and love the bike. If I had a bit more budget, then I would have went with Rocky Mountain, as I am Canadian, lol. Thanks so much for your reviews, and keep them coming :)
It would be great if you could post your trail segment times on all the bikes you ride. I absolutely love your honest reviews. Because of your reviews, I will be purchasing a new Ibis. Keep up the good work.
Hey Jason, thanks for your great reviews. Love to wach you sending all these awesome bikes. Currently I right a 2019 Instinct C70 and love that bike. I got it after watching your last years review on that bike :-)! Do you think upgrading the rear shock from a Fox DPS to a DPX2 makes sense? Maybe I should also change the Sag at the rear from 25 to 30%. Would like to hear you thoughts.... Cheers Marcel
Thanks for the review! I'm about to buy this in an alloy A70 configuration with XT drivetrain and XT 4 piston brakes. Just curious if you think the alloy will feel similar. I plan to put a OneUp carbon bar on it, but otherwise will run it stock. One last thing. I'm just about 6'2" and the Rocky rep said without a doubt to go with an XL. Does that sound right to you?
Great Review! Thank you! You mean that the bike is a good downhill. Good on Rocky terrain. Better then the Ripmo but not as the Megatower. My Megatower is very planted and not as playful as I wish. Should be a good choice. How is it on jumps, tables, gaps Bikepark? Do you think its a good bike for Part times doing this? My last Rockys where not very quite and not the quality I wish. Is this now better? I think about the Ripmo, niner Rip and instinct bc? Which one would you recommend?
From your previous videos you've said that you have a history with Santa Cruz. I know they've recently updated their Tallboy. Do you plan on doing a video on that?
Just switched from a 2017 Commencal Meta 4.2 AM to a 2019 Rocky Mountain Instinct BC edition. As much as I like skiing I cannot wait for the snow to melt.
Hi I have a 2015 altitude and I'm wondering if it's way different than the new bikes. If you have any thoughts on the difference I'd appreciate it. Thanks for the awesome videos! Joel
I have been curious about this bike for a couple of years now. I spent a day on a regular Instinct and felt more at home on it instantly than any other bike i've tried recently. I am glad you are riding a bike that is not pushing the "new" geo so that you might be able to contrast it to the old new geo of 2016-2018. I have been wondering what the compromise the new geo has on bikes. How does the new geo feel on all day rides where you might spend more time in the saddle?
Yeah, excellent point. This Instinct I would say feels more comfortable than the Ripmo or other more modern geo bikes like the Yeti SB130... I feel right at home on this instinct bc edition and find it to be just about perfect. The steep seat tube angle is nice on steeper climbs but beyond that, I find the geo on the bike to be very good for a trail bike
Hey! Great review. I am looking at getting a 2019 instinct BC frame and building it up. Question is... what offset fork to use? Short like the 2020 bike, or the longer offset that was originally found on the 2019 bike? I would assume the shorter offset would be better, otherwise Rocky Mountain wouldn't have made the change?
Just 'discovered' your reviews Jason and am loving them. Just want to make sure I understand you're saying that you feel the Ripmo climbs a bit better than the Rocky but the latter is a bit better on the descents? How do you view the Yeti SB 130 in comparison with these bikes? Thanks
both are very good. The Ripmo has more modern geo and maybe climbs a little better... I feel more "at home" on the Instinct though... just fits me better!
Hi, Just got a 2018 RM Altitude C70, thanks for your review on that one too. I can't recall but do you ever talk about the RIDE-9 system in your RM reviews? What position are you riding in?
Yeah, loved that bike. I was usually in the #1 or #3 setting on the Altitude. Also tried it in the #5 setting as well... Didn't notice a huge difference honestly.
Great review Jason! I own a 2019 Alloy Altitude and considering a BC Edition since I want to move to a 29''. On the other hand, I was thinking about overforking an Instinct to a 150'' and upgrading the brakes to XT 4 pistons geting a much lighter bike. What's your take on it?
Hello! ... a customer, for you which of these bikes ... you think is the best. 1) rocky mountain instinct bc edition 2020 & 2) Yeti SB 150 I would like for your experience which is the best? Thank you for your collaboration
Hey J, thanks so much for your really great review. Just have to decide between 2020 hightower cc or instinct bc 90.... Can u help me PLS? What is the better climber, because thats also very important for me. Other hints for my desicion? Thanks!!! 🙏
I love mountain biking and am just getting into it. I live in Canada. And ive found a 2014 rocky mountain trailhead. Do you know about this bike? Is it any good? He says its only got 100km on it. Looks brand new
Thanks! No.... filming this video I was riding shimano xtr pedals. In the B-roll footage I had a set of Canfield Brothers crampons on there... I usually take 20 minutes or so setting up the suspension in my yard so flats work well for that sort of thing...
Hey Jason! Great review as always!! We are coming down from Canada to go to Moab and want to ride Jacobs Ladder on the way. What are the flow trails you always ride after Jacobs? What is the jump line you sometimes ride? Is it close by?? Thx!!!
Shoot, not on the Gram but will be there mid Sept. Just booked a VRBO and making travel plans for mid-Sept. Any other form of communication other than social media? Got rid of all my accounts a year ago and love it!!!!! Lol!!!
LOVING my 19 carbon 90 BC and finally getting my endurance and skill up. I put some RF 800 carbon bars on and it really smoothed the ride out a lot and saved 100 grams, looking into the AXS/XX-1 but probably wait for the 10-52.
Hey whats up bud, just wanna say I appreciate the videos you put out, I really dig the reviews you have on the bikes. I find myself looking forward to watching your videos because I find value with the information you share on your rides. But I wanted to get you opinion on the Ripmo. I know that you personally have a Ripley and have been riding the Ripmo for a while, and have heard your feedback on how it climbs--climbs well but not as good as your Ripley (correct me if I'm wrong). I recently checked out an LBS that is a dealer of Ibis; they also demo the Ripley and Rimpo. One of the clerks there mentioned that people who have demo'd the Ripmo feel that its a terrible climber and that its more if DH bike. I was like huh? Every review I've seen on the Ripmo; the riders say the bike is an awesome climber and that its a great all around bike. I was curious to what your thoughts are on a comment like that. Does this seem like maybe they're valid? Anyways, would be great to hear your opinion on that. Thank you for your videos...
Very limited bikes available available right now. I can get this in my size in the Alloy 50 version on sale for 3k. In northern mn we have a bike park 20 minutes away and 20.miles of fun single track nearby with some pretty aggressive ups and downs for mn lots of rock beds and ledge rock but more flowy trails than anything else. Do you think this would be a good do it all bike or is this maybe too aggressive?
Seconded. I have a Pipeline (same frame as the Instinct BC) that I can convert to an Instinct BC (swap fork, rear shock, wheels), or put the money towards an HD4 or similar and would love to know the comparative differences.
MTB yumyum - looking at the 2020 alloy model as I can’t afford the carbon C50. A very good friend of mine in South Africa is going source a Bike Yoke dropper and a new stem. Great reviews. You should do some races , like the BC , EWS , stuff, since you are an above average rider, and mix it with reviews while there. Just an idea.
Good info. to know about the RSC brakes, I just sold my 2018 Spectral 6.0 and thinking of the 2019 Spectral 9.0 and that has the RSC brakes. Canyon has some decent end of year prices on 2019 models and also some 'outlet' bikes available so most likely going with something like that
Great review Jason--I just received my 2019 Altitude 90 carbon BC in the orange a few days ago, bike looks HOTTT, only upgrading the wheels to the 2020 Mavic XA carbon which will be here in a few days. I had the 27.5 version of those wheels on my Spectral and no issues and liked their new 40 tooth engagement hub, GREAT price on wheels as well as bike, bike came from an IDAHO dealer, certainly more of a bike than I need
@@mtbyumyum Thanks, I finally took it for its maiden voyage a few days ago, not knocking my Spectral but the RM is SUPERIOR in climbing, descending and agility. I made a steep and rooted hill the 1st time seated that I rarely made on the Spectral, the front end used to lift and rear slip, this bike stays PLANTED like its nailed to the ground, I got the Orange and dark green color, an eye catcher
I have an Arundel side dismount cage on my 2019 BC and it wont fit a full size and the cage is mounted as low as possible but no issue, its an AWESOME bike
You were definitely faster, should've passed up top! Also, it would have been cool to switch mid ride to see if you both could really feel the difference between them. I ride a 2018 RM C70 Altitude in part because of your reviews, they are great.
Hey Jason! Thanks so much for your reviews. Been following them for a while! I'm getting a new bike soon, and wondering if I could get your opinion. I ride West Coast BC, lot of roots and rough stuff around here. But I'm not a super aggressive rider; not hitting any drops, big jumps or sending it. I just enjoy climbing and working down technical trails, but staying on the ground. I'm 6', 165lbs. Debating between the Instinct (non-BC edition) with the 140/140 or one of the new ST trail 29ers like the Santa Cruz Tallboy, Giant Trance 29 or Ibis Ripley. In your experience, are those ST trail bikes capable enough to handle rough stuff or are you going to feel limited/short changed? Better to have that extra few mm of travel or is that overbiking it? Thanks! Keep up the awesome reviews
So doesn't the shorter offset fork slow steering down? It wouldn't make the bike feel quicker, but maybe more stable. You would offer that slower steering with a shorter stem though.
*Andrew Greenwood* wrote, "Are you going to Demo the Yeti SB 165 & the 140 soon !!! 👍" I expect he will, then I wonder if he won't like one of 'em enough to buy one, even though they're both 27.5"? I bet the SB165 will be a monster on Jacob's.
Hi Jason! I'm glad you're more appreciative of the BC Edition with a more appropriate suspension fit. I roll mine since May 2018 and I love it! Like all bikes, it takes a proper adjustment. I weigh 230 lbs so mine is adjusted accordingly to my weight and trail style. On my shock, I'm 30% sag but I have a spacer spacer of 0.8 inches, and some low speed compression clique. It completely transform the behavior of the bike. The mid stroke support is firmer and I have better pedaling in the climbs. I tried a Megatower this weekend in a trail and I prefer my BC Edition for the type of trail I ride. Shorter, and more agile! The Megatower is less versatile bike in my opinion. I thought I would buy the Megatower for 2020 but finally I will stay with my BC Edition, and make some upgrades ... Nice reviews like alwaws! Ride on buddy!
Hi! May I have a question what a size of frame you has? M or L? I am going to buy RM Instinct (classic one 140/140 2020...) but can not a made a decision if M or L :( I am 177 cm.. Thx!
MTB yumyum Thanks a lot for the answer. According to the "calculator" 177 cm = 5.8 feet ... What is your opinion on Trek Fuel Ex vs Rocky Mountain Instinct (140/140). Its another option for me what to buy.... Trek is producing size M, L and M/L. According tables M/L will be exactly my size... Pavel
Hey Jason! We are a couple of firefighters coming from Canada on the 16th (mentioned it previously to you). What are 2 trails that are “must do’s” around your location? Thinking Jacob’s Latter just because we watch so many of your videos and maybe the flow trails after it? What are the flow trails called? Also, what is the jump line called? I cannot remember what video that you answered me to last time so reposting this question. Thanks in advance Jason and keep up the great vids!!!!!
@@mtbyumyum Thanks for the reply. Couple have come up used in my area and they look to be in great condition. With the shortages happening I feel like just buying one and hoping I like it. Noisy bikes tend to take my attention while on the trails.
Yes, it was the chain slapping the chainstay... it's something rm will be addressing soon... in the roughest terrain, the instinct bc has a bit of chain slap that is a little noise... not uncommon on many bikes although, several brands have started addressing this so as to have a quieter bike... rm should have a solution to market in the next few months

Yea exactly I thought same thing
Hey...what helmet is that one? Like the venting, Smiths are little too warm for me.
Do a review on trek slash please..really like to see you check that bike out..thanks

I expect he will, then I wonder if he won't like one of 'em enough to buy one, even though they're both 27.5"? I bet the SB165 will be a monster on Jacob's.
Oh man what a beauty of a bike..... If only I had the money! Great video thanks!
thanks dude!
Rocky Mountains new line up looks pretty solid. Would be cool to see the new 2020.. 27.5 Slayer Vs the nomad 4
Would love to know how you would compare this with a Hightower.
Thanks for weighing in! I agree, for such a big bike, the BC edition is very versatile!
Great video as usual Jay.
thank you Dean!
I love Rocky Mountain bikes because are very aggressive bikes .. saludos amigo yum yum viva la vida .. ride fast ✌🏻
totally agree... just look at the EWS results!!!!
You said this bike is between the Ibis Ripmo and the Santa Cruz Megatower. What did you mean by that comparison?
in terms of descending
Waiting for you to demo the new Slayyyyyerr!
dude... that bike is insane!!!
Hi! May I have a question what a size of frame you has? M or L? I am going to buy RM Instinct (classic one 140/140 2020...) but can not a made a decision if M or L :( I am 177 cm.. Thx!
I'm 5'8" size medium
MTB yumyum Thanks a lot for the answer. According to the "calculator" 177 cm = 5.8 feet ... What is your opinion on Trek Fuel Ex vs Rocky Mountain Instinct (140/140). Its another option for me what to buy.... Trek is producing size M, L and M/L. According tables M/L will be exactly my size... Pavel
@@ListerMonster Pavel, 5'8" is 172.72 cm (1 foot = 12 inches)
Please do a review on the evil offering

What is that clanking noise on the Rocky when descending...
J you gotta try demo the new Yeti SB165” , it looks amazing 👍🏽👍🏽🤟🏾🤟🏾
Sorry for random question but have you ever ridden a yeti sb6?
Are you ever going to do the Fezzari La Sal Peak?
I'd like to... it's just a matter of getting one and riding it for a few days... are you local?
@@mtbyumyum Bountiful local. I ride a medium, so if you wanted to swap for a while to do a video, I may be open to that if you are.
so you already have the Lasal?
@@mtbyumyum Yes. About 2 months.
@@mtbyumyum But I'm interested in your take on it. I love it.
I’ve just seen Trek are releasing a new Fuel Ex 29.
You think you’ll be reviewing it?
Cheers
Hit me up on instagram and I'll get you on the right trails!
Hey Jason, my kid is trying to get you on Instagram for me but he says it is private?
I liked it a lot and very good material.
Hi jason...do you still have your HD4
How's it holding up?
my HD4 is for sale right now... great bike.. just ready for something different. Size Medium if you're interested... hit me up on Instagram
It sounds really noisy, are those internal cables hitting the frame?
Rear chain slap. rocky mountain has since solved the problem with better chainstay protection
@@mtbyumyum Thanks for the reply. Couple have come up used in my area and they look to be in great condition. With the shortages happening I feel like just buying one and hoping I like it. Noisy bikes tend to take my attention while on the trails.
Can you review a canyon strive?
I wish you could review the new Slayer!
Have you ever ridden a trek fuel ex?
That’s your next bike I swear 🤣👍🏽👍🏽 we can always tell when you like a bike
haha yeah, maybe!
Not the Yeti SB140?!? - We'll see - lol
Great review,thanks
What mount do you use for your wahoo elemnt?
Little slower down Jacobs then normal eh?
Nice review!
Thanks!
Might be your next ride?😜
Slayer 29 when?
so is their website outdated? www.bikes.com/en/bikes/instinct/2020?tid=72 shows shimano brakes and a dps shock.
Sounds like something was loose on the bike as I heard a lot of rattling.
MTB yumyum what is that solution?????
Is a new Reign demo on the cards?
If i can get a good price on my 2019 i will buy a 2021 with the new 52 cassette
Probablyyyyy my next bike.
DO IT!!!
@@mtbyumyum I work at a Rocky dealer and actually got to meet Sam from the last Instinct BC video and ride one of these! DEFINITELY my next bike! Keep these solid reviews up!
yo J some feedback....get your finger out...been weeks since a decent bike review?
This 215lber would need 400psi!
haha
But it’s not 2020 yet....
haha
