I honestly didn't get the criticizm about the third act. The whole character arc of the batman from the vengeance to hope was showcased masterfully. He realizing the purpose of him from merely taking revenge to finding his purpose to serve Gotham. It's juicily set up for this universe to unfold and enthrall!

I didn't have a problem with the third act but I can see the critics view since it really is a huge jumb from a simple noir detective story to a epic climax, where Batman has to save a entire city again when the whole story could had end with him just stopping Riddler from killing another victim. That would be already a little but significant step towards his evolution

It's not a bad third act, it just feels out of place and awkwardly fast paced especially after that middle act. There's also 3 to 4 places that it feels like this movie could've ended and the sequel could've opened up from.

I like the concept (even though I'm usually not a fan of narration) and to some extent love the execution, Pattinson's intonation was on point. It's pretty much exactly what I heard in my head when reading Year One. But some of the writing was a little too edgy even for me, the nocturnal animal line bordered on cringe. Would've preferred if the themes weren't so explicitly spelled out in the end as well. But still, great film.

    • @albertokorogu1258

@@mateuszjokiel2813 I mean you could also say that about TDK trilogy or even the Zack Snyder series but I see where your coming from.
Personally, I didn't mind the narration because it actually gave you insight into who he was as a person and it was a neat little way to re-introduce his character without having to go through the process of setting him up again.
Because the most annoying thing about reboots is having to sit through the same origin/setting up stuff that they did in the original. It's always nice for the set-up to just be a one and done, and establish everything from the get go.
It's also probably the thing a lot of people were probably scared about when this movie got announced which is another origin story. (Even if they said it was Year Two)

Be this movie's cinematography, storyline, acting, music - all of which can be summed up with a single word, magnificent, just makes this movie, one of the best batman movies ever made(after the dark knight).

For The Batman sequels what I would love see is:
2nd movie - Batman having to stop a gang war between Penguin and the Ventriloquist (which is been orchestrated by the Scarecrow so he can spread fear and panic in Gotham population). Meanwhile, as Bruce Wayne he would adopt Dick Grayson, after his parents were killed by one the gang members, and would help the kid deal with his loss, growing into a father figure and mentor, as Dick becomes Robin.
3rd movie - A adaptation of "The Last Arkham" with Batman finding out that some Arkham inmates are escaping their cells without anyone noticing. So he would pretend to be insane in order to infiltrate the Asylum and discover how the criminals are doing this. Once inside, he would have to deal with tortures caused by Doctor Jeremiah Arkham, who acts as contrast to Batman ideology (while Batman is compassionate and see his enemies as people, Jeremiah is ruthless and see the arkham inmates as animals). In the end it's reveal that it was all a trap create by the Joker (who I think Reeves could do a Hannibal Lector approach) and his allies ( Riddler, Scarecrow, The Ventriloquist and some new villains like Poison Ivy and Killer Croc) to trick Batman into come to the asylum, so they could kill him and escape. So the climax would have Batman having to fight against all the enemies he made during the trilogy.

In fact, during the final scene, I was expecting Batman monolgue would be this:
"Whatever life holds in store for me I will never forget these words...whatever wise words Alfred said during the film...This is my gift. My curse. Who am I? I'm Batman!"

Utterly brilliant but not a masterpiece like The Dark Knight. It was a comic book fans dream come true and as a Batman fan I couldn’t be more satisfied. The best thing I loved about this film was the atmosphere- specifically that of Gotham city itself. It felt like a hellish entity that breeds nightmarish characters- it felt like an actual character itself just as in the comics. Can’t wait for more releases in this continuity.

I think a good way to do what you said about building on Bruce’s personality while incorporating the playboy camouflage persona in a sequel would be to introduce the Court of Owls as the new main threat. Maybe instead of being a long-running organization dating back to Gotham’s founding, it’s just been formed between movies with Penguin as a founding member in response to Riddler’s socialist terrorism. Maybe they land themselves on Batman’s radar by attempting to recruit Bruce Wayne and the more he investigates them, the more it provokes him to reflect on who he is and the way he chooses to help Gotham. Once he goes through this self-discovery, he can recruit Jason Todd as Robin since he’s a real victim of poverty like Selina and Riddler. Because since they’re inevitably going to bring Joker in eventually no matter how sick we are of him, they may as well plant the seed for Death in the Family so that we can at least get a long-awaited live action adaptation out of it.

I loved the story, the vibe of Gotham, Penguin, Falcone and Batman himself (although I'd have liked a little more Bruce Wayne). I didn't love the terribly executed romance (especially since it's supposed to be the emotional centre of the story) and while I'm on board with a young, inexperienced Bruce Wayne I don't think it should reach the point where Batman is essencialy inconsecuential in his own story.

  • @olivercrespo2329

It’s not the best Batman movie, but it’s the most faithful take on the character and what his stories are mainly about in the first place, him solving crimes. Now for general audience members it may come as a shock to see a slow burning, ponderous, and intelligent mystery movie with honestly very little but hard hitting action. Pattinson is the best on screen Batman, the whole cast is phenomenal. The music and production design was also out of this world, Greg Frazier outdoes himself here. This movie definitely sits firmly at number 2 on the all time Batman movies list, TDK still sat firmly at number 1, but as a jumping off point for a new Batman and trilogy? I don’t think they could’ve done a better job establishing the tone of this world for Batman.

So let me just start off by saying I love it. The chase scene was perfection. The way the story and characters seamlessly transition from detective mode to action is impressive. It's so effortless the way the action takes place. The Dark Knight is my favorite movie of all time to be honest. The Joker and his mission to twist and deconstruct Batman's beliefs is just timeless. I like Bale's Bruce more than Patt's, but I like Patt's Batman more. I love Ledger's Joker, but I think the Riddler is really good too not as good, but close. I still think The Dark Knight edges The Batman out, but The Batman is not too far behind.

I also liked that though Batman wouldn't always appear from the shadows, when the criminals saw the Bat-Signal, they'd always stare at the shadows in fear. And Giacchino is a F**KING maestro! This Batman theme stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the Elfman & Zimmer & Howard scores.
I do want a bit of a "Hush" adaptation (make the obvious changes) since they think they're so slick as to try to put that reference past us comic book fans. 100% Agree Super Frame! This was a great BATMAN movie 😆 (And a great movie at that). Matt Reeves is one of my favorite directors, with DOTPOTA being one of my favorite movies all of the time, he comes to play with this movie! The suspense, the vulnerability, the emotions! Outstanding! However, I agree it isn't perfect. I found some of the payoffs a lil underwhelming, but perhaps when I rewatch on the weekend they might be better now that I've had time to process them. Also, I agree Bat's arc could have been better portrayed (Though it is a great arc nevertheless). Perhaps more scenes with the kid could help accentuate how Batman was scaring the people he helped to save. Overall, though, FANTASTIC! As for the sequels, again I agree! Save Joker for 3, and give another villain a shine, hopefully Freeze as Matt Reeves quotes on the character has me excited! 🦇

The reviews and the reactions to this movie are very perplexing to me. They range from worst Batman I’ve ever seen to masterpiece. I don’t understand how this is god awful but I do see how it can be a little underwhelming. The film is over saturated with some unneeded story elements. But from an aesthetic level and a character level this a very good Batman movie. If they would have shaved an hour off and focused a little more on one storyline I think it would be deserving of a masterpiece. Because I love how this movie looks with the cinematography to the lighting, the set design, I love pattinsons’s Physicality and the score is fantastic another great irritation in the Dark Knight musical archives. So I’m more pros then cons

So Tuesday I watched The Batman via IMAX and holy crap this is not a superhero film but a crime noir thriller from start to finish. I don't want to do comparisons of Robert Pattinson to other actors, but I will say he owns this role so well from the beginning to the middle and the end. Of course most will say Twilight actor but you have to look past Twilight and see other performances from him in the independent genre and you get that with Pattinson's Bruce Wayne. First and foremost this is a detective story and Matt Reeves focuses on that so well which I don't feel other Batman films have done to a full extent. In "The Batman" you get to see Sherlock Holmeseque storytelling as Batman being involved in the crime scene analyzing the clues the Riddler/Edward Nashton left behind for him, and Batman meticulously analyzing the scene with Jim Gordon's help. You really get the dynamic duo with Batman/Bruce Wayne and Jim Gordon and the way they work together throughout this whole ordeal setup by the Riddler is amazing. Then Selina Kyle's story is even important and you tend to invest with her storyline and how she is connected to the criminal underworld. It's very innocent but at the same tragic and Zoe Kravitz gives justice to Selina Kyle. This is more of Selina Kyle than of Catwoman who she hasn't become yet. When it comes to The Riddler/Edward Nashton storyline Paul Dano reminds me of Kevin Spacey's character from Sev7n just unrelenting and wanting to bring chaos and destruction. Gotham City is a Powder keg and Nashton/Riddler is the match who wants to expose the truth about Gotham City. Dano's Riddler is the perfect foil for Pattinson's Batman. Dano's performance seriously reminds me of the episode "Riddled" from the animated show "The Batman" with Robert Englund's Riddler where he wants to challenge Gotham City's protector with his riddles. He was just Scary and menacing from the beginning all the way to the end. When it comes to Colin Farrell's Oswald Cobblepot I can't find any mistake with the character because he nails it so beautifully in every scene and all he is looking for is respect just like John Cazale's Fredo Corleone in The Godfather Part II. Definitely more of Oswald's rise to power is going to be explored and I am excited for the Penguin spin-off with Farrell reprising the role for the HBO Max streaming platform. I can go on and on with how good this film is but in the end all I can say is that it's an amalgamation of past films where it honors The French Connection, The Godfather Parts I&II, Sev7n, The Usual Suspects, The Long Halloween, Year One, Ego, Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Returns and many other films. This film almost felt like the absolute version of a Batman story where the character arcs are fleshed out well and the possibility of expanding the story even more within The Batverse. I definitely give it a 10/10.

I hate to sound like that guy because I hate that guy. But I disagree with your criticisms. Especially how they construct their characters and it’s thematic and developmental story. I never was bored and I felt the movie couldn’t be any shorter and I was constantly on edge and wanted more.
I consider it a masterpiece. But then again, a masterpiece is not objective, it’s how the movie feels to you.
I’m just happy their is another great Batman movie. I feel like it will be less boring. Often getting the dark knight as ‘the best Batman movie’ it will be interesting to see discussions, comparisons and differences between the movies and just overall expanding the community. Knowing the internet though, it won’t be long until it gets toxic.
Regardless though I disagree with your criticisms, then again they are really just subjective, I respect and having given them thought.

Hmm. I am not sure why, but "The Batman" left me utterly cold and unmoved. I never found the trailers appealing. I felt no anticipation for the film and when I finally saw it, I found it boring. It looks great, but I never really warmed to Pattinson or most of the performances save for Zoe Kravitz and Collin Farrell. I found it dreary and the score monotonous. I hated the Batman costume design and found it's various gimmicks and uses wildly inconsistent. While the car chase excelled at not just being derivative of a Fast and furious movie, the Batmobile itself looked like one of their leftovers. I felt no connection to these characters, no resonance between Bruce and Alfred. For me it doesn't hold a candle to the Nolan trilogy, and moreover, I can't fathom why this was made instead of a Batman film that is connected to a larger DCU franchise. It just further dilutes that prospect needlessly, just like the Joker film did. I have zero interest in revisiting this film or seeing a sequel. Just my opinion though.

This covered my thoughts pretty much perfectly, I only have a couple other things to mention. First of all, the third act set piece was somewhat underwhelming, devolving into a standard superhero climax a bit at the end, which just about everyone’s been saying. The thought I’ve had that I haven’t heard echoed much lately is the politics. It was subtle enough that I could ignore it, but still, why the **** did The Batman need to be a movie about white privilege? I could forgive that line by Selina if it was just her view and we got others to challenge it, at least then it would be open to discussion, but the movie only enforces and perpetuates that view, with the conservative white dude embodying everything wrong with Gotham’s political system and the progressive young black woman never having anything negative suggested of her. It was just frustrating that this movie I otherwise loved had to so blatantly take a political stance.

I liked a lot of it. Only thing(s) that kept me from loving it was the third act. Too much. Riddler reduced to nothing but a liberal fantasy of a Jan6er. And boat boy from Dunkirk should not be the joker. Give us an Arkham looking Clown Prince.

I just watched it a couple hours ago and I thought it was mediocre. I’d give it a 4.9/10. I thought the mask was gonna bug me because I didn’t like how his jaw was completely uncovered, and I thought I wasn’t going to like Pattinson at all but both grew on me quickly. I actually would go as far as to say I’d have it would be right behind Keaton’s on the list of suits in live action movies. I’d also put Pattinson behind Keaton as my number 2 Batman in all movies, but that doesn’t really say much because Keaton was really the only guy I ever liked as Batman. Pattinson like Keaton did a better job than everyone else who has played the role at being naturally intimidating. He uses a lowered voice which might have been a bit too exaggerated, but other than Keaton, it’s far and away better than every other voice a Batman has used. Again, I didn’t even think he was that good, I’d give his Batman performance a 6/10, but compared to his competition, he looks really good. I didn’t like his Bruce Wayne much at all on the other hand, just like I didn’t like Keaton’s Bruce Wayne either. I understand that all the context behind why he portrayed Bruce the way he did, but I just didn’t like any part of it. It wasn’t unwatchable but all the scenes he was Bruce in, I just wanted him to get back in the suit asap. I’d give his Bruce a 3/10. I wasn’t fan of the lady who played cat women at all. I personally didn’t think she did anything that would make anyone claim she gave a good performance, as I felt she was just kind of there if that makes sense. I’ve seen people claiming she bettered Bruce and that’s what her whole role was, but i didn’t really feel that at all, as to me it seemed like he was the one spending time trying to better her. I’m not a casual who just wants tons of action scenes, but I felt most if not all the action scenes were underwhelming. He didn’t dominate like Batman should. I liked gordon and the duo between him and Batman was solid. I could go on and on but overall, I just felt the story wasn’t compelling, was very predictable, didnt feel impactful, and was kinda bland. Most of the characters were meh, and nothing about the movie was definitively great. Most stuff was mid and the rest was subpar imo. Overall felt like a movie that doesn’t really need to ever be watched a second time, kinda just like: alright, that wasn’t awful but there’s nothing in it that would make me want to watch it again or be emotionally invested in it. I see about half of the people share my opinion and the other half are claiming Pattinson is far and away the best Batman ever and this is far and away the best Batman movie ever, which is pure delusion. There’s usually a crowd of people who claim every superhero movie is all time great when it comes out but as time passes on come to their senses like the people who judged it properly from the beginning, and that’s what I think most of those people are.
