Before I pitch too you guys my own Superman movie I thought it'd be appropriate to revisit the other superman movies (specifically the latest incarnation) to deconstruct that superman and see if we can make a superman more inline with how he should be represented. If you looking for inspiration for your Superman pitch, I recommend you to check Superman & Lois TV series, specially the flashbacks from episode 11. It's one the best adaptations of Superman (alongside DCAU and Superman vs The Elite) and a exemple of how to adapt the hero in the modern days without sacrificing what makes him likable and appealing.

One good scene that could be in your Superman movie is Lex Luthor trying to buy Superman by opening a brief case full of money. Superman looks at the money and then at Lex who gives a him a smile, but Superman closes the brief case and says “no.”

But look how many people complain about how he has power that he was born with and can do things that others cannot which in their mind makes him boring. Even the Russo brother slaundered the character and the whole of dc by claiming superman and dc heroes can't work in cinema because they are just all powerful and therefore boring, but they were quick to glorify batman, pretty much the only character in dc everyone in warner bros respects and is quick to make heroes villians so batman can get by.

In order to make an intriguing Superman movie, they should focus more on the characterization of Clark Kent. Just like the Captain America trilogy. • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian Год назад +6

They need to focus on Clark's relationship with his parents. And on the good parenting that he receives. And the quiet and happy life that he lives in Kansas. What makes Superman iconic is the fact that he represents the good part of America. His motivation should be the love he feels for people. Clark should be a loveable and kind hearted man. He should have a warm smile and be almost naive in his view of the world. When he moves to Metropolis, he should feel shocked at the lack of empathy people in the big city have. The movie should focus more on his struggle to connect with the people of Metropolis because they have become cynical about others who say they want to help.

One thing I am sick of is superman’s farther constantly dying as part of his origin.

    It’s about how they lived.

    • @FreakyTeeth

Batman isn't defined by trauma either, he's defined by feeling obligated to save Gotham in incredibly romantic fashion, despite the sad loneliness it brings him, because he feels it's what his parents would want him to be. Remember his father was a doctor and his mother was a charity worker. As batman he saves Gotham from the evils of crime, the evil that took his parents.

I have this image in my head that always pops up for what I would think would be a great intro for a Superman movie. Imagine Superman in a small town playing baseball with some kids on the street. He's being casual, he and the kids are joking, and minor curses are being thrown around. Something akin to The Sandlot for example. We see the scene take place from a kid's camera, as he's recording from a distance. So a pov shot. Supes is being cheeky as the team he's on is winning with the help of his powers. This goes on for maybe 3 minutes, until we pan from the pov shot to a normal cinematic movie setting. Supes hears something in the distance that needs his attention, and he flies away. That's how I'd start a Superman movie. Thanks for reading.

I am upset with myself for not thinking of something like that but if you would indulge me, I would like to share my Superman opening. I think mine would be for the Superman II film that follows your own.
First, we officially put Metropolis on a map, it is in Virginia just outside of D.C. The first several minutes are setting up minor emergencies across the country. A surfer is knocked off his board in Hawaii, hitting his head on a reef and falling unconscious under the water, a child lost in the woods in Washington state, and a family struggling with a cow giving birth on their farm in Iowa. But the biggest emergency is in Metropolis, as a bank is being robbed.
Three men with guns fire at a line of police cars to cover their getaway.
In Hawaii, we see a crowd of fifty people surrounding the young man brought back to the beach where CPR was successfully performed. They're looking up to the sky, crying out their thanks.
The three men split up in the back alleys, the youngest of them making a wrong turn and running head first into the crowded side walks.
The little girl lost in the woods is absolutely bawling her eyes out, crying for her mommy. A voice calmly says, "Everything is going to be all right." She looks up and stops crying, a smile missing two front teeth spreads cheek to cheek across her face.
The young man with the gun knocks several people over as he runs, hearing several police officers on foot chase him down. Out of sheer desperation, he grabs an older woman by the waist and yanks her into a corner store, knocking her grandchild over.
In Iowa, the calf that was just born is not breathing, its mom panicking and the young, inexperienced farmer is as well. Another hand grabs his own and places it on the calf's chest, the same voice telling him "calm down, she's depending on you. Let me help."
The young man pulls the old woman into the back of the corner store, ordering everyone else out. With a gun to her head, he threatens the police. Absolute chaos is spreading across the crowd.
      "Look! Up in the sky!"
The very first shot of Superman in this film is him floating down to land in front of the corner store. The police and first responders clear a path for the man of steel to enter. The old woman's grandchild is pointing at the store, crying, trying to explain to Superman what's wrong but is on the verge of hyperventilating.
      "He's-! He's-! He's-! He's-!"
Superman takes off his cape and wraps it around the kid's shoulders. Kneeling down to eye level, he ruffles the kid's hair and says, "Everything is going to be all right. I promise."
      He enters the corner store.
"Back off! I'll do it! I swear!"
"If I wanted to hurt you I can. I can move faster than the bullet in that gun, but I'll break every bone in your body. I can use heat vision to burn it to slag but you'll lose that hand. But I do. not. want to. hurt you."
"... What are you gonna do?"
"Ask you to put the gun down, let her go, and turn yourself in."
      "They'll lock me up!"
"Yes, but you hurt that woman and you'll never be a free man again. I'll make sure you go to prison for the rest of your life. You end this nonsense here and now, a jury will look at you better, you will have a chance to get out. You're not a killer, yes you will be punished but you are no murderer. It is never too late to do the right thing."
      "..."
The old woman squirms to be heard. "My name is Evelin, now my grandbaby is waiting for me. His name is Miles. What's yours?"
      "... Raymond."
"You have a grandma too, everyone does. What is she going to think if she hears that her baby boy is a killer on tonight's evening news?"
Superman whispers, "It will break her heart."
The young man begins to cry. He hands the gun to Superman and allows the police to take him into custody. Miles hands the cape back to Superman, he and Evelin hug the man of steel as the crowd erupts in cheering.

It's pretty crazy when you look at Snyders movies through the Altruism v. Objectivism lens.
Take Army of the Dead for instance, a movie Snyder had 100% control over. The script had exactly one Altruistic character, Dave Batista's daughter. Not only did the movie make her out to be the most hate-able character in the movie, her actions directly leads to the deaths of not only her Dad, but the people she tries to save and the Pilot. Every other character starts out selfish, but when they do end up performing a good, altruistic act they get killed moments later. The pilot not leaving, the safe cracker saving the guy who was a jerk to him and the Coyote luring the Alpha away with the head of the Queen are all examples. Hell, even the woman who professes her love fr Drax gets her neck snapped 2 seconds later.
Snyder takes the term "no good deed left unpunished" literally. ;)

With the daughter, Snyder takes the one character who noble the entire time and does _everything_ he can to make you hate her even before the mission starts.
It's literally Objectivism v. Altruism, a very popular topic for people who, like Snyder, love Ayn Rand. Doing anything for non-selfish ends is wrong. It's like someone read a cut down version of Adam Smith's Wealth of Nation and ignored all context.

Tbf DC isn’t entirely to blame for that trope.
Omni-Man & Homelander were created well before DC pulled the trigger. They just didn’t become popularized til The Boys & Invincible were put on Amazon several years after DC launched the Injustice games.
There’s also Brightburn which wasn’t their creation either. DC’s mainly just done it with Injustice & the Knightmare visions in Justice League which I blame Snyder for. I honestly don’t mind Injustice, but they did it way too soon when we barely even had Clark Kent established.
That’s an Elseworlds that should be explored like a decade down the line & kept FAR away from the main DCU continuity. I agree that they just need to nail & establish classic Superman first & foremost before there’s even any weight to him falling so far from grace in an alternate universe.

Admittedly when I was young I use to neglect the character, although I still acknowledged the character's presence, I was mainly into popular characters like Spiderman or Batman (even though I still love those characters a lot). But after years of reading comics and watching shows and films as a teenager, I then began to understand what the character truly means to the world. Superman has quickly become my favourite superhero, as the character constantly reminds me the what it means to be good and the simple reason to be good, simply because it's right. The character has taught me that we have to keep on going, we have to persevere in the midst of the struggles and challenges of life, even now with my current depression an social anxiety, I still keep on going because I know that deep down there will be a better tomorrow. Its easy to have a cynical mindset in life and understandable, but whats truly a challenge is having hopeful and optimistic mindset, but worth it to help others and better ourselves simply because it right.
I truly love the character of Superman so much and have been a little disappointed with how the character has been handled in the DCEU, even though Henry Cavill could've been a fantastic Superman, as he truly loves and understands the character as proven by his interviews and even would've rather preferred to depict the character to be more hopeful and optimistic.
I am actually currently writing up scripts for my own take on the DCEU with castings, themes and plots based on countless films, shows, animation and comics and my own ideas. I deeply believe @SUPER_FRAME and myself share a similar idea of wgat makes for a good Superman film/trilogy, and much like him I have been inspired to one day make pitch videos for my own take on the DCEU and have written up ideas for a Superman trilogy, a Flash film, a Green Lantern franchise and so many more etc...

Superman two movies upto that point but he was still dull character. Wonder Woman movie had Snyder co writing with patty which turned out to be first critically acclaimed movie in DCEU. Snyder made Batman the fighter we all know and he even made some aspects of things good, but the only big let down with Batman is totally devoid of compassion and humanity of that character. Batman war on crime depicts him also as a warrior. It's so dismaying that it's almost as though people see someone choosing to be kind and heroic by their own volition as more unrealistic than having superpowers. Like you said, it's becoming uncomfortably common to have superhero media be cynical and 'edgy,' and it leaching into Superman of all characters just feels so baffling. One of Superman's most fundamental aspects is his kindness and care for others. If you strip that back and just turn him into a flying brick, how can you even really call that Superman?

Not only is he relatable, he’s a tragic character.
