- The Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra Philharmonia Orchestra under the direction of Thomas Buchhauser performs "Greensleeves" by Ralph Vaughan Williams and arranged by Alfred Reed at the Mills Concert Hall in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mosse Humanities Building on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
i’m a flute player and we played this my freshman year. i’m a senior now and we were going to play this and i was going to get the flute solo but because of what’s going on in world i won’t be playing it. so much disappointment and sadness. nevertheless, this performance is amazing.
Wait, Americans do this song? I thought it was only the UK as its a traditional English folk song about King Henry VIII
@@jacobadams7628 we do everything ig
@@jacobadams7628 we do lots of music from around the world if it sounds good
I heard this when I was a kid in a cartoon called the pinky and the brain. I always forget the name of this song, but never forget the tune
Rokas Simkus I like Pinky & the Brain!
There are still young People like these in this world. May God bless them.
May God bless you as well.
This is the peak of music.
Bangy you clearly havent listened to “be nice 2 me”
It’s like being fully suspended in time …….
OMG I always hear this during listening exams because HKDSE
always play this when we are checking our questions - answer book😂
I remember playing this my freshman year of HS on the French horn which has that 6 bar whole note 🤌🏽
This song always gets me "right there."
Same here. Just like Pachelbel's 'Canon' and Vaughan Williams other masterpiece "Fantasia on a Theme (of Thomas Tallis)".
this is one of the best versions of greensleeves ive ever heard
This literally SOUNDS like everyone together in Paradise!
Just a small correction. The Greensleeves tune predates Vaughan Williams by several hundred years. This is a wonderful transcription of Alfred Reed's arrangement of Greensleeves for concert band which he or someone else transcribed for orchestra. Vaughn Williams wrote an equally beautiful Fantasia on Greensleeves. In any case, nice performance of a beautiful piece.
This is the same sweet melody as the church song " What Child is This?"
I'm playing this for my winter concert
Me too
Same!
Same
Same!!!
+Jody Brock it is today
Fantastico!!! Saludos desde Ecuador!!!!
I remember in 7th grade my orchestra played nobody’s gigge and another song similar to it (i cant remember it for the life of me) and we had this piece too but we never played it. Kinda unfortunate since this piece is actually really nice
It's a dream music 😳
I'm in 7th grade and I'm playing greensleeves, warrior legacy, russian's sailors dance, and allegretto by Beethoven. All 9th grades music I love them all
BlessGaming I remember hearing this in 4th grade. And then in 6th I had to sing the original version which didn't give me the feels as the one I heard. Now I'm where you were and I'm addicted to this song but I still like the song I first heard of Greensleves. It's called Alive.
мне очень понравилось ваша интерпретация этой замечательной музыки, спасибо
I always remembered this song but I never actually listened to it, finally found it, Woohoo!
I remember playing this in 8th grade as well as Russian Sailor’s Dance and Christmas Eve/Sarajevo
Marvelous arrangement. Very soothing. Well done all.
I love Greensleeves with a passion and this is a beautiful arrangement - thank you! Personally I'd have lost the glockenspiel/tubular bells (they did nothing for me except stand out, and not in a good way); otherwise, perfection. 👏
I love Greensleeves too but I thought the arrangement was poor and so was the conductor. It's supposed to be inspiring and uplifting. This was laden with slow miserable sombreness to the point that it became pathos. It's the kind of thing that the miserable self-piteous Tchaikovsky would have revelled in had he composed the piece.Greensleeves would be excellent for a wedding. This arrangement would be more fitting for a funeral.
Born Rebel i think this is a high school orchestra
I love Trees and Phandom I used to play in an orchestra when I was a kid and we played inspiring pieces, not suicide inducing dirges. Their youth is no excuse. Shame on them all but most of all, shame on the conductor
I would love this for my funeral
@Born Rebel. Not sure if you are aware but this song is basically about an unrequited love of a woman who constantly cheats on her husband/lover. I don't think uplifting is how I would describe that situation. The tune has been used for many other songs such as the Christmas song "What Child is This?" that might be considered inspirational but the original peace was not a happy tune.
Oversimplified, anyone?
Yep
A little faster...but still nice...
Play at 1.25x speed :-)
dude in the upper left with the cymbals is priceless esp at the end
As a 9 year old beginning saxophone player Greensleeves and Fur Elise helped begin my love for music.
bro the cellos are so out of tune
Busyeeeeeetttttttt
The arranger can't arrange for toffee; he murdered it. It sounds like a funeral dirge. Even the orchestra are trying to stay awake.
I know this song but I feel like the beginning comes out in a movie but I can't remember.
Prefiero sin tantos arreglos.
Bass is best in this piece. Tuba / Sousa. Fight me.

I am playing this as well
Loved how the glock and bells accented the whole orchestra.
Wonderful
I was in a summer program and played in the 8th grade orchestra when I was in 5th grade
I heard this for my imagination
Way too wagnerian sorry
Absolutely beautiful
Who dislikes this?
Hong Kong #HKDSE
Muito linda
superpowerful stuff!

Simply amazing
I FEEL SO OLD!
Maybe because this song came out in the 1500's
Amazing! You guys had great dynamic contractions, rhythm, tone, and clarity. The harpist played his/ her cords very nicely adding to the style of the piece perfectly. The woodwinds & brass sections did a wonderful job. Strings, excellent! Keep up the work you guys sound like professionals! I almost couldn't tell the difference!
What edition is this? Where do the strings and harp parts come from? I am looking to purchase this edition, but can't seem to find an edition for full orchestra. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would suggest contacting the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra. I do not have any information on how to purchase this.
Too slow and must leap... it's a guitar song
