    Excellent advice and demonstration on “walking the cup” and mixing additives to keep them in suspension and not settling at the bottom of the cup. Thank you!

    Kevin I have a question sir. I was hired to salvage the post and beam framing from and old shed with the understanding I would haul the contents to the dump. Well sir after we started emptying the structure there was an early 50s Chey. I hauled her out and washed some of the grunge from her. It is painted in the most incredible white mother of pearl I've ever seen. Question is are you able to tell me how they got that finish? I've painted miles of pearl and never run into anything like this. On an old door I took clear base and smothered it with pearl and was unable to reproduce it. The colors are brilliant blues, greens and reds. I can understand why true candy apple red is painted today.

    Your video is short but very effective.
    1) Does EASTWOOD export his product in Italy ?
    2) I saw the new colours of Aventador SV. They have metal flakes. Do you think that the Lamborghini paint is pre-mixed by paint producer to reduce time to delivery or do you think that the worker makes his mix every time for every car ?

    • @michaelg4931
      @michaelg4931 8 лет назад +2

      +Polie Why? Have some real pride in your ride. If it's worth doing, it's worth putting the effort into learning to do it right yourself.

    • @69Polie69
      @69Polie69 8 лет назад

      +Michael G i do, but i also know that these kind of professionals will be able to do a much better job than myself.

    • @michaelg4931
      @michaelg4931 8 лет назад +1

      Polie
      It's true that a professional could do a better job but I found that, even with the imperfections that sometimes comes from a doing it yourself as a non-professional, people tend to be more impressed when you inform them that you did it yourself. Not that I paint my own for that reason. The main reasons are: cost (roughly 25% of what I would pay someone else), the sense of accomplishment, and finally the fact that way too many of the supposed professionals out there, who get great recommendations from people, are total hacks. Over and over, I've had professionals do different things and when I look at the resulting work, I think to myself "What hack work, I could have done that quality or better myself and saved a ton of money.".

    • @69Polie69
      @69Polie69 8 лет назад

      +Michael G sounds great to do your own paint, if you have the space, time, tools, ect to be able to.

    • @michaelg4931
      @michaelg4931 8 лет назад +1

      Polie
      LOL if you saw the space I have to work with you'd be amazed that I can get anything done at all. The tools do not necessarily have to be expensive. The most expensive bit would be the air compressor. I started off with an inexpensive paint gun (less than $100 for a two gun set with one used as a primer gun) as I reasoned that if I could get to the point of acceptable paint jobs with them, I could "reward" myself with an Iwata. Never did upgrade as I get excellent results.with the budget guns.

    I have alot to learn but I'm learning, I want to paint my truck black but with a copper pearl effect in the sun. How do I go about it and is it just a black base coat/ copper pearl then clear?

    • @peterrivney552
      @peterrivney552 3 года назад

      Yep like a tri- coat system only thing is every coat of copper will change the tone of pearl. (Darken it)
      As well I don't use a gravity feed gun for metal flake I use old Sifon feed gun with a couple marbles in the cup to stir the flake and keep it suspended in the clear or it will settle to the bottom and cause blochy spots..

    KEVIN, or anyone else who knows what they are talking about. What is special about intercoat clear? Does it possess characteristics that make it a superior carrier of flakes and pearls? Can I use the same clear as my topcoat for spraying the flake? Would you notice a difference? My topcoat clear would be a 2K variety, of course. I'm doing my first ever paint job on a custom motorcycle.

    • @eastwoodco
      @eastwoodco  9 лет назад

      +drummerboy smith Our intercoat clear is designed with unique solids that help to suspend the pearl or flake in the clear while spraying, and helps to lock down those particles once they hit the surface. Normal clear allows the pearl or flake to settle very quickly, and once it hits the surface it wants to flow out, which is great for gloss on a top coat, but terrible for a pearl or flake coat. When that layer flows, it causes the pearl or flake to move around and cause mottling and streaking on the surface. You can always put your pearl or flake in normal clear coat, but it makes the process more difficult, and the results will probably be less than desirable.
      Eastwood - Since 1978.....Are YOU an Eastwood Guy?

    • @drummerboysmith968
      @drummerboysmith968 9 лет назад +1

      +Eastwood Company Thanks for the info. Guess it pays to do the job right. I just can't afford to pay someone else. I'm going to have to do some practice and experimentation to achieve an effect I like. I am not an artist so I'm not going to bother with taping off flames or graphics or even stripes. Seems difficult to do on all the curved surfaces of a bike. I am going to try combining some different flakes together for starters. Maybe I'll like it . If not I will attempt some free hand stuff with different flakes, maybe getting a sort of soft rainbow effect. We'll see.

      +Tom Iaderosa You will never end learning, but with the internet, and some common sense skepticism ( a lot of bad information out there) , I learned on my own on how to prep and paint and get excellent results for less than 1/4 of what it would have cost me to have someone else do it.

    sorry I've been painting 35 plus years and not to be mean but you have no idea what you're talking about just saying I guess it's time for me to start doing some videos and actually doing the videos like if I say I'm going to show you how to paint it starts with mixing how to weigh your paint mix it right or if you're not weighing your paint how to measure with cups that's very important to get your mixture right Plus you have to have your temperature in mind when painting air pressure on your gun how far are you shooting from your panel and what type of material your painting with anyways if you are watching this video please read my comments so you don't get Sidetrack with this shade tree want to be painter once again I'm not being mean just stating the facts
