But what if you get tired of doing the same thing over and over like going to work or doing your favorite activities and after a while they feel boring pointless and a no fun and it feels like all you do is force yourself to do your favorite activities or Work your hardest even though you don't want to anymore it's pointless cause no matter what you do It's never gonna be enough and you try to be the best person you can be and you always put your friends and family 1st before yourselves

Don’t surround yourself with people that make you feel bad… I lost my mom almost 3 months ago and I was already mentally struggling… People said the meanest things about my “grief process” and my mental state. So I just block those people out of my life. Surround yourself with people that understand your pain and help you, somehow, to get better, to feel better, even for a simple smile. It doesn’t matter if it’s just one or two people, that’s plenty, as long as you’re happy.
Be sure to also, if you can, go to a professional mental health therapist and get the help you need. It’s not shameful, not stupid, it’s actually a really good step for your healing. ❤️❤️

My jobs in the past have been unstable and kept changing… I’ll work for a couple of months and keep changing jobs because of anxiety/ depression… sweeping my issues under the rug… I’ve been off work since March (laid off) due to my mental health and I’ve been trying to get another job… I was professionally advised today not to find a new job .. I’m 28 and I feel so sad about this but me and my mental health come first. Finally someone helped me make a decision I couldn’t make on my own… and to help me understand the cycle will keep repeating itself… guys if you have to stop working … so be it. Now in the process of getting CBT soon… I need to heal.. I’ve lost confidence, I’m always irritated and most days I’m sad.. another job/more money will just be another distraction but not the solution to the issues I have :(

'Me time' is one that I really like and can relate to needing.
I have this whiteboard calendar that I use to create my 'schedule'. As it's a new month I erased everything and as I looked through the calendar, my total activities to put down came to be only 2 things. 2 appointments. Nothing else, the rest of the month was absolutely clear. That's now changed to 3, and I know eventually I'll add more, make some time to hang out with friends possibly, things like that, but when I saw how empty my calendar was, I felt sooo happy. I'm not exactly an introvert (imma ambivert) but I've spent majority of my life as one, from the late ends of elementary all the way through middle school and freshman year. I've only started granting myself what people call, "a social life" now that I can exist with the convenience of being older and more capable. As a result of this transition period, I've come to realize I have a bit of a hard time managing my schedule because for the past year, I've had so many events lined up to hang out with friends, volunteer, etc, and even last month I had a one-month summer job that took up my weeks and whenever I had a 'free day', I wasted it mindlessly watching RUclips videos because I didn't have the energy to concentrate or be active on anything else, though I could hardly concentrate on the videos and found myself increasingly bored. [Fun fact: if you search up 'Im bored', there'll be a link to a 'bored button' that will take you to random fun sites to mess with]. My room was a mess and there were problems about not being able to get chores done, lack of hygiene, etc. I also haven't participated in any other hobbies I enjoy, like random journalling, drawing, cooking, or even just taking some time at night to appreciate the sky and cool air. Days were just flying by. I had prioritized my active life of hanging out with friends and work and neglected any kind of productive 'me time'. When I felt the joy of having that empty schedule, it really sunk in how much I needed this. The feeling that I have all the time in the world so for now, I should just do something that I enjoy or is convenient. One day into this new month of 'me time' and I have a clean room, a bunch of plans on things I wanna do, I've watched a movie, eaten proper time-allocated meals (meals, not snacks), and It's only 3. The day feels longer than all those other days where my mindset was, "I'll do it tomorrow, don't have time for it today" which turns into 2 days, a week, then never. Now, I'm like, "I've got nothing better to do, no obligations, no energy to save on smth else, might as well spend this energy however I want! I've got all the time in the world to do all those things that I want to do so for now I wanna start doing this".
Truth be told, I really enjoy things like cleaning and cooking, house chore kinda stuff, but when it feels like a chore, existing in my break times to sap whatevers left of my energy, then it really is nothing more than a chore that I don't want to do, and therefore neglect. Having this time to take care of me will also allow me to attempt to set up a better hygiene schedule, which sounds fun to plan out (I wonder if I should find a bunch of random funny alarms to use), and by using these longer moments productively, I not only recharge my emotional energy by feeling happier and content with what I've done, I also make other people happy (like my gremlin sister who'll be happy to see that my room is clean and now the perfect place to turn into her jungle gym, which will mean I can go for more sibling bonding moments that will backfire on my physical health, but I don't expect to escape any tackling until I move out #siblingproblems)
Writing massive paragraphs about my current situations is another hobby of mine I find enjoyable (to make, not to read back lol. I should work on my simplifying skills)
Time to go wake the sleepy house with a vacuum! :D

I could've never seen this at a better time. I recently had a session with my therapist last weekend and I was very excited to tell her the progress I've made for the whole month, but of course I also had to share the bad days I've had. Usually I'll go out of therapy feeling lighter and fulfilled, but this time I felt just plain empty, frustrated and disappointed with myself because I felt my progress were nonexistent and have been discredited. My therapist focused more on what I could've done more instead of what I've already did.
But now I feel like this is just a normal occurence in therapy. It doesn't have to be always a linear progress and I don't have to focus on things I haven't done yet. I'm currently on my way to start trusting the process and celebrating the small steps I've already taken. I can say I'm proud of what I've become now for the past month and I'm on the right track towards getting better.
As I'm writing this I actually shed a tear or two. I guess this is how it feels like loving myself genuinely for the first time. I can say now that I accept wholeheartedly who I am and my flaws. And I hope I can find soon the sense of self and confidence I always wish I had in order to maximize my potentials and be capable of the things I've always wanted in life.
I've been a silent viewer of Psych2go and this is my first time leaving a comment. Thank you always for the helpful content. You guys are lifesavers.

I really like the "Me Time" its so easy to get lost in the day to day grind of surviving and trying to get things done. Even i forget to give myself some time to chill and i realise that when i dont do that. I tend to negative talk instead of positive talk to myself since i sometimes feel like its hard to take a small break. Thank you for reminding us to be self aware of ourselves.

Here is one. Do not rush your self-development. So you have decided you start working out, being more social person, improve self-confidence, keep your always messy room clean or start waking up 7 am? That's good, but you are surely to fail at some point. You skip few times or go back to "I can't do it" phase AND THAT'S OK!. Remind yourself that it's fine. You tried. When you feel like you have courage and/or energy to try again, then do it. Everything, do in small steps. Journey is long, and everything takes time. Just go easy on yourself, but do not stop completely

I have been rebuilding my mental health for probably around 3 years now. Obviously there have been some *severe* ups and downs during that time, as it is quite the turbulent time even to be in a solid state of mind, let alone vulnerable.
The 1st point about breaks is one that I learned the very hard way, but I was too burnt out and it was too late for it to save me.
The point about "trust the process" is much more relevant to me today. I have improved over these years, and I have to just try my best and not worry about the pace. I internalized some of the thoughts of close family who meant well but thought I was getting better way too slowly. They 1 constantly tried to push me or get me to "push myself" with regards to mental health, or 2 came up with other mental health issues that *they* thought I might have even though my therapist didn't think that. And 3 when faced with that, they said that obviously I need a new therapist 🤦‍♂️ even after a session with them involved... all 3 of these things were because they were convinced I was getting better too slowly. I don't blame them too much, just like this video says, blaming others doesn't work out great if you push 100% on them, but I do blame them somewhat. Despite them meaning well, I'm much happier finally living on my own and far away, where I can have a depressed weekend sometimes *but* not get "pushed" into feeling bad about having a down and then beating myself up and spiraling further. Idk how much longer it would've taken to break that cycle if I still lived at home. Would be cheaper, though! 😅 now the biggest problem I've got is work stress 😓

Off topic but I was watching ur video “8 signs you have unhealed trauma”
    I related to all them except 2,3 & 4
I’ve noticed emotional neglect, manipulation & abuse. (I know there’s more I just have that inner feeling that I can’t word or describe to myself) I find I’m fighting with parts of myself like I’ll notice something odd & part of me is like “it’s okay don’t do anything there’s nothing wrong” then that’s where the fighting (for lack of better term, I can’t think of the word) begins. This happens a lot.
The thing about I can’t think of the word, this is what I struggle with the most. Describing something to myself is most important to me. I get the inner feeling “hey somethings is not right here but I find it hard to or can’t retrieve the word for it so I can describe it to myself

    Helpful alternatives to therapy.
I know this is different from what the channel is mostly comprised of, but ai think this would be insanely useful for some of us who would love to work on our trauma with a therapist, but can't afford it.

hi psych2go! i was wondering if you could possibly do a video on how to help with this whole climate change thing and to raise awareness to people? because it's actually so so serious and worrying and it has really taken a toll on my mental health and i bet others too, just knowing i have a safe environment during these hard times would really help me and many many others,, thank you!!!!! (day 2 of asking)

Guys, I need some advice. I normally enjoy being alone at home but when it comes to going out ( shopping, cafe dates, cinemaetc.) I find that I don't have the ability to do such things alone. I have social anxiety and I feel like it's better when I don't go out in public on my own but at times I really want to do those activities alone but I don't know why I can't. And when I ask friends, at times they can't come or decide to postpone it to a later date but I want to do it right now. I'm sorry if that doesn't make any sense, I want to askwgat should I do? Should I practice going out alon, because I really want to, or is it what it is?

Up and down! My moods go up and down. I can't help it, because l get slammed with other people's stuff. I would rather be by myself than, be with someone who doesn't care about me. If you want me to do all your work and pay your bills, well ........... go find yourself another person to take care of you.
