What excites me the most here is the transcription of Peter's comping, there's not so many examples of piano comping transcribed out there. It's just spot on, the climb he does at 1:35 is so badass!
Peter Martin is the BEST living jazz pianist no doubt about it. Doesn’t make the others not great, but he just makes every cat look like a fool. Bravo Maestro
This was awesome and inspiring. Super tight playing from all 3 players here! I particularly loved the snare phrasing with the melody after the trade 4s new the end
I just started learning the melody line on bass; been woodshedding it for about a month and I use it as part of my warm up. I don't care if I never play it as part of my set, it's just a fun challenging exercise for me.
Brilliant! So naturally beautiful through all the bebop complexity. Minor correction to transcription: in measure 21 the sixteenth notes are C and E flat (not D and F as notated), in measure 14 E natural (missing accidental)
Could someone please tell me what's the correct note in bar 29? Peter Martin plays an a-flat (which makes more sense to me) whereas one can clearly hear an a-natural in several of the old recordings (with Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Jaco Pastorious,...)
A natural is the "correct" note (the original recordings do in fact have this note, but most tend to play A-flat). Dunno why this has been such a common misconception, maybe real book had it wrong and it got lost in translation over time or something?
this is crazy, my best is 275 bpm and im not even talking about improv, my improv bpm is like negative i just cant, the chords are too hard for me to make sound good
I've got about 10 videos tutorials on this .the last ones are best. I think I am up to 200 bpm.. No improv yet on the tutorials. Very good playing PIanostyle100.
True enough, but it's fairly common in jazz to have flubs every once in a while. Bud Powell comes to mind as someone with quite a few flubs in most performances.

@@Johnwilkinsonofficial And actually, I didn't hate at all ... I just did a pretty objective statement. I actually liked the performance. You just read into it what you wanted :D
I mean as f**kin awesome as that piano solo was....it didn't follow the melody in the same spirit Bird did. It was more like "licks on top of chords" amazing fast licks but ...still ....
Pete Martin, are you sure it's legally allowed to be this fucking badass? The whole trio swinging like nobody's business!!!!
Thank you for this excellent warm-up exercise.

You should listen to his solo on Embraceable You with Dianne Reeves. One of the best solos I have ever heard in my life, no exaggeration!

Good point. I wonder if they left it that way because those are the original "composed" notes.
