Another more niche option for sound on consoles is a capture card. I use the Elgato 4K X. It works wonderfully with this monitor. I also use a more advanced setup using an HDMI 2.1 switch box and VRR & ALLM all work. Obvs not everyone needs an hdmi switch, but the capture card is nice because then you can just use the Elgato or similar software to play and capture sound using your sound hardware on PC. Hello! Im just really confused and have a few questions. If Im using a PC, whats the proccess like hooking a soundbar up to eARC? If Im using a PS5 with a soundbar, do I still need the Steel series or do I need some more stuff? Can you have the PS5 plugged into the soundbar along with the pc or do I have to switch the cables around every time I switch from PC to PS5? I might have more questions in the future. Thx! Srry if confusing ~
On PC the process is the same using the HDMI 2.1 cable. It won't work via DisplayPort 1.4 cable. The soundbar is it's own audio interface so you don't need the Steelseries stuff. You just need to hook up the sound bar. The Steelseries hub is only for that particular headset. If you have another headset it'll have it's own hardware for connecting, if it supports the ps5. Not all headsets do. It depends if the soundbar can accept multiple connections. In the case of the JBL I have here it accepts cable and bluetooth. So, if you didn't want to swap out cables then you'd leave the ps5 connected and connect via bluetooth on PC then switch the source on the sound bar between the two. Otherwise, you'd have to swap the HDMI cable for each system, ps5 and PC.

The monitor doesn’t support 1440p on the PS5?? How does it do the 120fps mode, in 1080p? What does that mean for single player games that have quality vs performance? That you have to play in 4k 30fps or 1080p 60fps? I didn’t think the PS5 could do real 4k at 60fps. I thought it was either 30fps at 4k or 60fps at 1440p. So I’m confused
It doesn't support 1440p on ps5. 120fps support depends on the game and can either be in 1080p or 4k. Typically, for games supporting different graphics modes, that means 4k 30 or 1080 60/120. Again, there's no 1440p support at all. If by "real 4k" you mean upscaling then yes almost all games supporting 4k are upscaled on the ps5.
@@TaylorBrauerso for example if I was playing Spider-man 2 on PS5 I could play in 4k 30fps quality mode or 1080p at 60fps in performance mode but it wouldn’t actually be 1080p because it would be upscaled? Is that right? Sorry I don’t understand upscaling completely

@@TaylorBrauer It's almost like having a real CRT (the motion quality of modern OLEDs is still not as perfect compared to real CRT). The phosphor mask reduces the effective resolution of the 4K display to either 240p or 480p (depending on the mask you will use) and that's perfect for retro consoles. Without CRT/PVM emulation, all 240p / 480p games will be blurry or extremely pixelated when upscaled to 4K. @@TaylorBrauer Updating the firmware was the first thing I did when I get it yesterday. Still working through troubleshooting. Some people use the dolby atmos app and are able to get sound. It's a dolby atmos soundbar. Might also try a different cable
@@TaylorBrauer Update: I literally just turned it on and the console on this morning and audio pass through is working on the console. Still not on the pc but it auto switches to bluetooth so it'll work for now. Maybe it's not working on pc because it's connected through Display port?
@@playswithfire04 That's probably it. DisplayPort doesn't carry sound.
@@TaylorBrauer Ah okay. Thank you for responding! Glad I've got audio working now, pretty much everything is going well. Leaving dolby vision on is a bit weird for pc, it doesn't seem to switch between HDR and Dolby Vision
Update: okay it is switching regularly now between hdr and dolby vision
No scratches on your screen?
Luckily, no scratches. I had the first batch of packaging which wasn't all that great and only had some smudges. Those I was able to get out with a micro fiber cloth.
No 4k and 120hz simultaneously?
It’s going to depend on the game but I wouldn’t expect AAA titles to support it. Check out the game you plan on playing to see all the supported resolutions and framerates their game supports.
Alan Wake 2 in quality mode is 1280p upscaled to 4k and performance mode is 847p upscaled to 1440p. It's not native 4k and either 1080p 🙂.
Where did you find this information?
@@TaylorBrauer take a look at Digital Foundry channel, they analize almost every game in consoles and pc.
You can’t just connect headphones to the console for audio?
Console headphones almost always need to go through an intermediate device as none have a 3.5mm headphone jack. Some also connect to the controller itself.
@@TaylorBrauer dont usbc headphones work?
@@eduardo_guzman11 Maybe there's some out there that are compatible with console but idk which ones those would be. There's also the option to connect via bluetooth.
Alan Wake 2 doesn't run at 120hz in performance mode on ps5, it runs at 60hz, so that's not a bug.
I see. That makes sense.
I can't use Dolby vision for some reason. Help
I'm sure what exactly might be going on but perhaps double check that your graphics card drivers are up to date.
@@TaylorBrauer Had to update it thank you. Also would like to ask, do you recommend having dolby vision on with HDR True Black and HDR Peak 1000 or is it up to preference? Also, do you have console mode on with your PS5?
@@carlodeangeli6572 Nice! Glad you got that working. Dolby vision is another HDR setting by itself that's separate from TrueBlack and Peak 1000. Try out different ones and see which fits best for you. I also have a video going over HDR in more detail, with this monitor, that you might find helpful. I go over some of the pros and cons to each of these settings.
For some reason after connecting this monitor, I can't select my PS5 profiles like wtf? I haven't had this issue til after buying this monitor
@@Nobody__Really your profiles?
@@TaylorBrauer Yeah I have more than one PSN accounts on my PS5. I bought Alienware today cuz its a nice monitor with fast refresh rate and all that. I noticed after connecting it to my PS5, for some reason my controller won't let me press any of the button on the right side like X, Square, O, Triangle but PS5 allows me to use the left Dpad like wtf??? I can't even select one account on my PS5
@@TaylorBrauer Like if I can't get this figured out, Im literally gonna return it tomorrow as I bought it today and I'm having such hard time trying to use my PS5 with this dumb ass monitor that's somehow preventing me from fully using my PS5 controller like wtf?
@@Nobody__Really have you tried resetting the controller? Like with the hole in the back? It should be accessible with a toothpick. Then reconnect it to the ps5.
@@TaylorBrauer I smashed my hand on PS5 and since then its working lololol
Why doesn’t it support 1440p? I‘d only be able to play COD MW3 on 1080p if i want 120hz, is that right?
I'm not sure the reasoning behind no 1440p support. Correct, 1080p for 120Hz on CoD. It doesn't look that bad, imo.
So it doesn’t support 1440p with a pc ?
@@Willsalmon96 PC will support 1440p.
Oh right so it will support 1440p with my pc and 4k with my ps5 ?
@@Willsalmon96 Yeah, as long as the game supports 4k. Otherwise, it's 1080p.
Hopefully the PS5 Pro will run all games at 4k 120hz.
That would be really nice. I'm pretty exicted to see what they have in store for us. Hopefully the wait isn't too much longer.
those smudges are making me regret ordering it after seeing so many complaints
Dell has claimed to have updated the packaging to provide better protection to the screen in shipping. Some I've seen have verified that's the case. The smudges, if they are present, should come out with a microfiber cloth. If there's any scratches then that would need to be replaced by Dell.Thoroughly check your screen when it arrives.
@@TaylorBrauer according to fedex I receive it today, lets see how it goes.
Console mode is hit and miss with my monitor.
What’s some of the things you’ve experienced?
@@TaylorBrauer I have an AW2723D5 monitor attached to my Xbox Series X, and when I select console mode, it does not work, but in other games, it does.

But why in kitchen??
Why not?
