    They got this bass so right it's insane. From the single pickup to the lollipop tuners, it's a home run. Last signature model I got was the Marcus Miller CIJ 70s Jazz (which Fender also nailed), but this one is definitely next.

    if I were to get a Bass this will be it. Usually I'm not a fan of relic instruments, but this... is beautiful.

      It's alright. Doesn't feel or sound much different from a Squier Bronco Bass. It's still better than a Mustang PJ, but the flatwounds that they put on them from the factory don't really help with that.

    Short scale bass is my only choice. I still catch shit from the old school guys who still think these are student models and for kids with short arms. I can still get the same ol' low end that a long scale an get, but mine is so much more punchy and alive, plus I can fly up and down the thing. That 36 inch reach will wear your ass out! Plus, I can use regular cases and gig bags. Never going long scale again!

      I've gone short-scale, as well, and mine is a precision/P bass that has an alder body and maple fret board. The intonation was pretty easy to adjust, so I didn't spend that long doing it; but it was much more difficult on even my medium-scale bass (that was of the same brand, but a cheaper, lower-quality one made of basswood with a rosewood fret-board). I am a female with small hands, and even my medium-sized bass guitar is a bit much. The neck on the short one it a bit fatter than my medium one, but it's still comfortable. Once you go shorty you don't go back; the main difference is the size! ;D

    That little quick, muted pick run he did, was just pure awesomeness. Flats+pick+short scale ftw!

    Oh wow, I never knew Holger played a Mustang. They were one of the archetype mythical creature bands you've mentioned. I love the sound of your Mustang. I'm coming from guitar, learning bass playing a Squier CV Mustang. It's nice, but I'm saving up for Justin's signature one. Shout out to Philip Conrad for always showcasing them. Smashing sounding and looking basses. I haven't found anything else I like as much. The more modern Sandberg Florence sounds and looks nice too though.

    Roy wood was the person that sparked my interest in Mustangs, he played them in some of the videos with the Move. Just that amazing tone.

      Had lollipop tuners on a '68 P Bass I (regrettably) sold years ago. I put them on all my basses now. I don't know what it is, but I love that look.

    What flatwounds is JMJ using on his Mustang? I'm guessing D'Addario medium-scales, ECB-81M, since he's an endorsee. How's that work stringing through the body? That's a pretty radical break over the saddles!

    • @jmjbassplayer
      @jmjbassplayer 7 лет назад +9

      Yes, medium-scale flats. They work great, no breakages.

    is it just sales talk that this sounds bigger and more focused than a p bass?

    • @Thejam4
      @Thejam4 5 лет назад +2

      I have a P-bass and love it. But yes, in a live situations, I've noticed my Mustang sitting in the mix differently then the P-bass. The Mustang sits more in the front of the mix, I can almost hear my Mustang cut through all the bands instruments, without being too trebly or annoying, If that makes sense?

    • @buckbumble

      Oscar Hand I agree. I do like a road worn but it has to be right. I don’t like beat up for the sake of it. The instrument has to have something special about it.
