They got this bass so right it's insane. From the single pickup to the lollipop tuners, it's a home run. Last signature model I got was the Marcus Miller CIJ 70s Jazz (which Fender also nailed), but this one is definitely next.
if I were to get a Bass this will be it. Usually I'm not a fan of relic instruments, but this... is beautiful.
Man I bet this bass plays SO BEAUTIFULLY
We know what you have to do!
It's alright. Doesn't feel or sound much different from a Squier Bronco Bass. It's still better than a Mustang PJ, but the flatwounds that they put on them from the factory don't really help with that.
Short scale bass is my only choice. I still catch shit from the old school guys who still think these are student models and for kids with short arms. I can still get the same ol' low end that a long scale an get, but mine is so much more punchy and alive, plus I can fly up and down the thing. That 36 inch reach will wear your ass out! Plus, I can use regular cases and gig bags. Never going long scale again!
I've gone short-scale, as well, and mine is a precision/P bass that has an alder body and maple fret board. The intonation was pretty easy to adjust, so I didn't spend that long doing it; but it was much more difficult on even my medium-scale bass (that was of the same brand, but a cheaper, lower-quality one made of basswood with a rosewood fret-board). I am a female with small hands, and even my medium-sized bass guitar is a bit much. The neck on the short one it a bit fatter than my medium one, but it's still comfortable. Once you go shorty you don't go back; the main difference is the size! ;D
He said an Acoustic 370 through a 2x15
This man. Has. TASTE.
This man, the bassist, knows his amps. Sunn for life
I just purchased one for my 11 year old daughter, she absolutely loves it!
I love mine! Especially playing live for a lot of reasons. I took off the flats and put on rounds, perfect!
No joke this is my exact dream bass.
That little quick, muted pick run he did, was just pure awesomeness. Flats+pick+short scale ftw!
A NordyMute fixes that pretty well!
Tina's tone has always kicked ass!
Wish he would have played it.
looks very great. i need one!
Oh wow, I never knew Holger played a Mustang. They were one of the archetype mythical creature bands you've mentioned. I love the sound of your Mustang. I'm coming from guitar, learning bass playing a Squier CV Mustang. It's nice, but I'm saving up for Justin's signature one. Shout out to Philip Conrad for always showcasing them. Smashing sounding and looking basses. I haven't found anything else I like as much. The more modern Sandberg Florence sounds and looks nice too though.
Roy wood was the person that sparked my interest in Mustangs, he played them in some of the videos with the Move. Just that amazing tone.
Such a dope bass!
Many of those New York New Wave musos used the " student" model Fenders b/c they were cheap pawn shop guitars.
I love the groovy tuners.
Jason Eckard 1966 style lollipop tuners.
I need all basses to look like that.
Had lollipop tuners on a '68 P Bass I (regrettably) sold years ago. I put them on all my basses now. I don't know what it is, but I love that look.
Will they do a musicmaster reissue?
Dude. Squier Bronco bass. $150. You can't beat em.
I just like the style the white on white music master is dope
Dunlop 500k super pots,Hipshot Kickass bridge,Sperzel tuners and Dimarzio Fast Track 2 in series.66 bassman head 2x15 with jbl D140f speakers.job done
Probably not
Jmj rocks....I wanna hear it with his malekko diabolik
Didn't he use to promote the Guild Starfire bass?
Be nice to see the base
i want one.
I have a 68 mustang competition with a porta flex 1970
What flatwounds is JMJ using on his Mustang? I'm guessing D'Addario medium-scales, ECB-81M, since he's an endorsee. How's that work stringing through the body? That's a pretty radical break over the saddles!
Yes, medium-scale flats. They work great, no breakages.
Justin Meldal-Johnsen Very cool bass for an even cooler player! Thanks!
What pickups did you put in-there (if it's not a trade secret)? :) Huge JMJ fan, gotta say (Prince-sized, though).
Seymour Duncan replicated my original pickup in collaboration with Fender.
Thank you. I'll be definetly trying one out when they get to Europe.
is it just sales talk that this sounds bigger and more focused than a p bass?
I have a P-bass and love it. But yes, in a live situations, I've noticed my Mustang sitting in the mix differently then the P-bass. The Mustang sits more in the front of the mix, I can almost hear my Mustang cut through all the bands instruments, without being too trebly or annoying, If that makes sense?
American, Japan or Mexico?
Mexico
Just bought the PJ Mustang :-(
better than this "signature" and factory "relic" bass. PJ mustang looks better, cheaper and more versatile
Awe man! The Justin model is better in my humble opinion.
So what's the price?
Port:Will probably 1100$
$999.99
I read it will retail around $750.
I paid $999. no tax no shipping!
Have you always been a short scale guy?...
Thumbs up on the bass and the video. Thumbs down on anything "road worn." Marketing nonsense and Infantile idiocy.
TheColonelKlink Have you played one? Road worns, are truly special
Oscar Hand I agree. I do like a road worn but it has to be right. I don’t like beat up for the sake of it. The instrument has to have something special about it.
Didn't know Adam Sandler played wicked bass....uhh??
Haki Mann more Andy Samberg to me
Isn't this the worst selling bass guitar in Fender's history?
